trastu
Hi thereCould anyone please tell me if there would be a problem importing our Landrover Discovery into France? I have just found out that certain 4x4's cannot be imported into Spain and I really need to know if this is the case in France as well.Thank you in advance for any help.Tracey
Kitty
I brought my Discovery into France and have registered it. I hadn't heard of any problem about Land Rover Discoveries. I'll do a search for recent threads about registration for you.
Benjamin
The experts will be along shortly but................I live here and I've also lived in Spain and I've seen plenty of UK Discos imported to both countries. There are possible changes to be done such as swopping the headlights for LHD ones and possibly the speedometer also although aren't all UK ones in Kmh as well? These sort of stories always seemed more prevalent in Spain than here but you never know.Edit Sorry Cathy our postings crossed> I didn't mean you weren't an expert. AnOther
Don't know anything about difficulties in Spain but if it's of UK/EU origin you need only follow the instructions in the FAQ at the top of the Driving Section.EDIT: What is it you have "found out" about Spain I wonder ? trastu
Hi ErnieyIt was whilst doing some research regarding importing cars into Spain that I came across the information that certain types of 4x4 would be refused matriculation onto Spanish plates due to visibility problems but I couldn't find out which types specifically hence my question regarding our discovery.Hope that helpsTracey
AnOther
Visibility - how can you possibly miss something that big [;-)]There should be no reason for a standard UK Disco to present a problem, perhaps the Spanish thing is something to do with after market tinted windows which I presume yours hasn't got. There are any number of imported Disco's in France, not all properly re-registered of course as we well know however, if there were such a problem with them in particular I'm pretty sure it would have become well known very quickly so armed with a C of C and the other neccessary documenrts I don't think you'll have any undue difficulty. PaulT
Visibility from a Disco is most certainly not a problem, especially compared to some cars with extremely thick pillars.Paul
Sunday Driver
RHD commercial vehicles, eg panel vans, are not permitted to be imported into Spain due to lack of vision from the driver's position. It may be that some 4x4 pickups have been classified as such. There is no such issue in France.
Kitty
I drive (in France) a RHD Discovery and a Transit. Visibility is a bit of a problem so I don't often overtake. [Www]
valB
Hello We moved here with a Pajero, which is classed as a "grey import " and we were told that we would have major problems getting French plates. We went through the process and it took us about three months and we had no hiccups at all and it did not cost a fortune either. We have seen loads of 4x4's that are right hand drive and have French plates on them so maybe it will not be a major problem for you.
