Bones Posted July 2, 2007 Share Posted July 2, 2007 My friend can do most jobs (to a high standard) but has no building qualifications as such, he registered as a kind of non specific landscape gardener and seems to be doing everything: decking, plasterboards, gazebos etc etc etc! He works with an electrician (by trade) who is registered seperately and they seem to do okay, never takes anything on that he feels he might not be able to handle or that he wouldn't be insured for. He wasn't trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes when he registered either - rather the registration process led him to his final designated status - he even tried to argue the case that he should be registering with a different chamber at one point and they just told him to shut up and sign. [8-)][/quote]I'm sorry to say this, but he is probably working illegally. There is no way that a landscape gardener can put up plasterboard or be an electrician (or an electricians assistant)! It's funny but the guy he works with is registered separately and they're only allowed to do a certain amount of work together per year, all very odd - why can't they just let them get on with it?? Actually they do seem to let them get on with it! One is registered for interior work and the other exterior work and somehow it all falls into place, but you're right, there's probably something wrong somewhere.He seems to do a lot of decking and stuff like that, more work than he can shake a stick at.
