Chimney Tiling

I need to tile the sides and rear wall of the chimney before I have the woodburner installed. I will have a 12in gap between the sides of the chimney and the woodburner and a

6-8in gap at the rear. Do I need a specific heat resistant type of tile and / or tile cement to do this? Or will the ordinary ceramic tiles/ cement be OK?

Thanks,

Aitch

I have a Rayburn, well Stanly same thing. I have used ordinary ceramic tiles. No problems. A wood burner might give off more heat though. Sand and lime render is the best thing to use inside a chimney for heat resistance.

you can get reflective brick about 5 -10 cms thick and heat resistant cement. brick refractaire and ciment refractaire. depending on your burner they will recommend the distance of space needed behind and to the sides of the sides of the burner this will maybe between 10 -20cms. worth checking before you do your reflective brick
