  1. Hi, We're planning on moving back to the UK. At what stage do we have to "admit" to the Inland Revenue that we have arrived for tax purposes. Would the purchase of a poperty over there be the point? One benefit of living here is the lower tax bill on our "foyer" Any experiences in this area out there. Thanks john
  2. Our old car has finally given its last and, no we don't want to "scrappage" it for another. (We have a newer car that will do)  Does anybody know the procedure for taking it off the road. My local garagiste says he will take it off my hands, but I want to be sure I'm conforming with the regs as I don't want it coming back to haunt me in a couple of years time in the hands of someone else.  Has any body  been through the procedure?  Thanks   John
  3. We're going to the UK for several months and would like to get internet access whilst there. I'm very out of touch with the newer technologies but our laptop has a WiFi capability.  We have no UK mobile and I don't want to take out a years contract with an ISP.  If we buy a mobile over there is there any way to connect  and does anybody have any experience of this.  I don't want to use internet cafes as some secure (banking) will have to be done.  We are also likely to be moving around the country during our stay.  Thanks for the help and I'm sorry if this sounds a bit vague!!  I'll try and clarify if required.  Best wishes  John
  4. And do they do prescription sunglasses?  I can't make it out on the websites (forgive the pun!).  John
  5. We have a couple of well loved director's chairs that are becoming very faded and the "canvas" is beginning to fray, though the wood is still in excellent condition.  They were bought 10+ years ago in John Lewis and bear no makers mark.  We're trying to find a source of replacement backs and seats for them.  They are the type with the plastic/cane rod inserts that slode into grooves in the wooden seat and back supports and seem to be out of favour as a design at the moment, particularly the back rest which now seem to slot over the back supports in modern versions.  Does anyone know of a supplier who might help or failing that one who might supply the material that we can attempt to replicate the seat/backs.  Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but couldn't find anything more appropriate.  John
  6. No Hester,  I got the SK version as well instead of the "usual" one.  I had to print off the 2009 version of the 2047 too, where previously they automatically included it.  It looks like the fisc's attempt to simplify matters is generating a lot of extra paper!!  John
  7. I keep hearing references in the UK news to a car "scrappage" scheme operating in France, Germany etc.  I'm sorry if this has all been explored before and if so perhaps somebody can post the link, but is this really in operation and is it practical?  Can I really turn in my 15 year old RHD heap for a new small economical car?  Too good to be true.............?  Thanks for the help,  John
