  2. Hi all I am weighing in at 82.9kg this week   meaning ive put on 2kgs I feel that Ive lost incentive and determination and could really do with a boost has anyone any tips for quick start weight loss so I can get back on track seeing a couple of llbs/kgs drop off this coming week would certainly give me the incouragement I desperatly need Thanks
  3. Thanks for your response An error on our behalf for not understanding the tableau/totale thing but then surely the shutters need to be manufactured in the same way or they still wont fit.
  4. We recently bought a set of French doors from Brico Depot 225x140 and shutters to match (same size obviously).  We measured the doors before fitting luckily as they were actually 145.2 not the stated 140.  This done we then fitted the shutters but they didn't meet in the middle We measured them and discovered they were the stated 140.  Is this a common problem?
  5. As far as Im aware she is mobile only because she hasnt set up a salon as yet and also felt that being a mobile hairdresser in a rural area of 23 would be beneficial to alot of potential clients Ill check next time I get my hair done if you like!   I also agree with MWJ.  I dont consider my french language skills to be up to a visit to a french salon as yet. Im petrified of coming out with a shaven head or something!!  Which is why I posted the original topic.  I'm sure there must be a few others who would appreciate an English hairdresser while they are  improving their french!!
  6. I have posted this in the Post bag aswell, but If anyone is looking for a hair dresser I can reccommend one. She is English, fully qualified and mobile (Dept 23) PM me for details
  7. If anyone is looking for a good hairdresser I can reccommend one. She is English fully qualified and Mobile (Dept 23) PM me for details
  8. We got totalgaz (bottle free paid just for gas) in 23 but couldnt get the pipe or regulator from the supermarket. You can also get them from little hardware stores and briconaute type places
  9. hi all No loss for me either this week and haven't measured the inches(to scared!!) Jan, Im doing slimming world its the only one that works for me.  You can go to the slimming world web site www.slimmingworld.co.uk where you can print a free 7 day meal plan 1 for green meals and 1 for red meals.  Theres loads of info there and you can even join up even if you dont live in UK you can do it on line. Hope this helps
  10. Hi Lorna,  I was thinking the same thing it does just seem to be you and me this week.  I to tend tohave a binge then feel gross! We seem to weigh about the same and are both looking to loose the same. although not for the same reasons I just cant face another hot summer in trousers and big tops!!! Im sure you'll do fine I know I would in your situation.  Dont give up hope your slip should just renew your determination.
  11. What are the different types of mortgage available in France.  The only ones I have come accross will only release capital on the presentation of bills for materials purchased/works completed. This seems a little daft as If you had the money to purchase materials/ pay tradesmen you wouldnt need the mortgage in the first place and what if you were to buy something or pay some one and then the mortgage company decided that they wouldnt pay out on that item.
  12. Thanks for all you help we have been and done it gas bottle from the local garage no contract charge pay just for the gas, got the pipe and clips from local hardware store and regulator from a brico no problems and now have a fully working cooker for the first time in 2 years
  13. We used an architect last year who drew plans filled forms and applied for all relevent permis for our complete conversion of a barn (500sqm) in 23 he charged us 750euros no problems and recieved permission within 2 months.
  14. Am I correct in thinking that it is only sunken pools to which the fencing rule applies?? Last year we bought an above ground pool the plunge pool type, we did not put a fence around it and as we were 'camping' right next to it, it was well supervised, my youngest child was 17 months old at the time and couldnt even see over the top. Now she is a year older and has already devised a way to climb up the sides and could easily fall in so we will be fencing around it this year in an effort to make it safer even though it is not law. It is an expense that we could do without but we could not do without the kids (well most of the time anyway!!!!!) Surely it is common sense for those of us with kids or those who have pools at their gites etc to make these areas as safe as possible anyway with or without a law and for ALL pool types. This said we also have a well with a locked grate so thats ok and a pond that needs fencing and a trough (how do we get around that one)  The dangers of water are everywhere and we cant eleminate them all.
  15. Slightly off track here but still sort of related We brought our cooker over with us from UK (electric oven and gas hob) 2 years ago and have finally just received a replacement LPG converter kit from manufacterer.  We replaced the bits and now all we need is to buy the gas!! Which bottle/type do we need Thanks
  16. My goose had 8 eggs in her nest which we were marking so we new which ones were freshly layed.  On checking the nest a few days ago we found NONE. Where have they gone??  There was no egg related mess and she doesn't seem distressed and is continuing to lay in the same place. Her mate is very aggressive and protective so it doesn't seem likely that anyone would have braved his attacks and entered the area. Any ideas
  17. Hello again I finally bought my scales and so I am weighing in at 81.9kgs about 12.8 stone I think, which is what I thought I was BEFORE I started dieting so either I haven't lost any weight or I was alot heavier!!!  On the brighter side I have lost 3.5 cms in the last week. (only 13 more cms to go) I decided to have a week off this week as I was getting fed up so ate my first plate of chips and my first bit of baguette and marge for 3 weeks last night and guess what this morning I have an upset tummy  so maybe I'll stick with it although its going to be tough as MOH has his 'english food parcel' arriving today.  Will I be able to resist??? I doubt it!! Hope the rest of you have done well and good luck for this week
  18. On the back of or planning permission certificate it stated that any exterior work (work that can be seen from the out side) could not be done without permission and if it was found to be done there was a list of penalties fines by size of work and even imprisionment and of course having to put things back the way they were this info is remembered off the top of my head so is a bit vauge but I cant face sorting through the mountains of paperwork in th cupboard!! Its a bit doom and gloom I know.  We did consider altering some window/door sizes but were told that there is a possibility of inspectors coming to check at some point and then the same as above would apply.  Others said to us no one ever comes to inspect but seeing as we have no way of knowing whos in the occasional car that drives by we decided to be better safe than sorry!
  19.  Home is a cold empty barn in La Creuse (23) Full time, Looking forward to the summer!!
  20. Brico Depot Catalogue stating Plasterboard 250x120cm 1 sheet =3m2 price variable 4 different sorts of Airflex type insulation ranging from 75 to 185 euros per roll 16.80m2 for the cheapest to 18m2 for the others
  21. Sorry to bring this post to the top of the list again but along the same lines where can you have this proceedure carried out?  At the local Docs or do you have to go to a 'ladies clinic' or something similar at the Hospital? Also what is French for 'coil' and where do you have these checked, fitted/removed at?
  22. In a weeks time we are going to the hospital in Gueret for the first time scince arriving in France.  It is an appointment with a consultant for our 2 year old regarding a broken bone that has healed in the wrong position.  Could anyone tell me an approx cost for this appointment.  Just so that we are prepared. Thanks
  23. Morning all! Still no scales but bought a tape measure and have lost a total of 7cms I am very happy as last week I ate lots of cake and biscuits and was convinced I had ruined everything.  It has renewed my determination and this week I'm going to stick to the eating plan and see if the results are better,  if not then a few treats must be fine!! Hope you all have had good results keep up the good work
  24. I have seen an advert for a car with  'permis b1' or equivalent required. can someone tell me what this is.  ie is it a full french driving licence or the basic provisional type. also does anyone know what the categories on a french driving licence are in relation to the ones on a UK licence.
  25. In a bid to increase our standard of living slightly this year we are investigating the purchase of a mobile home. Does anyone have any info on transporting one from UK to France ie companies and costings  or alternatively where to purchase one in France (second hand) and delivery costs?? Thanks
