  1. Just looked at the pictures. Can some clever person add names to faces on the group one? Beautiful blue sky.
  2. And, amongst other things, I am District Manager of Pernod Ricard. Good eh! Wonder what my perks are.
  3. Funny you should mention Anglo Info. That is one of my regular websites. At one stage I was having problems logging on to it. The problem only seemed to affect Anglo Info, Amazon and (I'm ashamed to say) Mindjolt Games on Facebook. Our internet provider did some serious tweaking (whatever that means) and it is fine now. And - yes - I am using a MacBook without Wifi connection. Not sure that is any help to you whatsoever but it does seem to be a bit of a coincidence.
  4. Thanks so much for writing that, Q. I know next to nothing about foreign affairs so wouldn't have dared voice my opinion. You've just done it for me and said exactly what I've been thinking.
  5. Not a washing machine (see below) but we have purchased dishwasher, hob, oven, microwave and wireless router all from Darty. We found them an excellent company to do business with. As it happens I bought the wrong router and it wouldn't work with my computer. By the time I found out the reason my 10 day reflection period was over but they (eventually) let me change it anyway. (Might have had to cry a bit down the phone) Their engineer installed the dishwasher and took away all the packaging. We had to call them out some time later when we were worried about the flame on the hob being too fierce. (they didnt install it as it was bought well in advance of our kitchen refit). It turned out our fitter had used the wrong set of jets - town gas and butane being different apparently, but I'm just a girlie. He changed them over, smiled and there was no charge at all. Our washing machine was bought in But back in 1989 and was still going strong when we moved out of our French house last november. Never needed a repair. Can't remember going for a top notch model at the time but I do know it wasn't Hotpoint. It just might have been Fagor but of course I can't check now.
  6. I thought it was always 12 o'clock - on the dot!!
  7. Thounds luvly thith thnake of yourth.
  8. Can't you tell us all, Nick? Good clip, Bugsy. Just had a thought - does PM stand for Priest's Message?
  9. And, it's not just you. French companies almost never seem to answer emails. On the other hand, we have found that they seem to respond to a fax immediatement!
  10. Yes. But probably what they always get away with. Anything between 5 and 10% is "normal"
  11. I think you should jump at the chance! Some people are just too suspicious.
  12. I used them about six months ago for a small parcel - England to France. It took just over two weeks. The parcel visited: Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Germany before arriving at my house! Apparently someone read F and thought it meant Finland instead of France!! That was their excuse anyway.
  13. Blimey - what is the time limit for editing or deleting then? 3 seconds?
  14. Sorry to but in but.........if I used my French hole in the wall card in Tenerife (in the eurozone) would withdrawals be free then? That would be very useful. Don't have any charges booklet with me and my French bank are not good at replying to my emails!

  16. I'm afraid I can't offer any good advice but you have my heartfelt sympathy!
  17. Thanks so much for that, gg. It looks really interesting. Just typed in our postcode in England and there are several caches nearby. Can't wait to investigate. Could be a great way to enjoy the great outdoors this summer when we're there.
  18. Something to do with likelihood of an earlier interest rate rise in Europe according to our Moneycorp man.
  19. Blimey, that is very harsh. We actually notified the agents (by email which was the standard method of contacting him since he knew we weren't in France, or even in England, but on holiday) that we had agreed a sale 2 days after the compromis - and while the 7 day cooling off period was still in force. Our buyer could still have changed her mind at that time. By the time that the agent informed us out of the blue that he could get the full asking price (but not the price on the mandat!), the cooling off period had elapsed and we couldn't have backed out of the first sale! If we could do it all over again, how should we have played this? Send registered letter the minute we are told someone has put in an acceptable offer? Surely not.
  20. Well, enfin and at last the notaire has replied. Rather terse, saying he can't always reply to emails immediately! But, the good news is that he says nobody can hold us to a sale if we haven't signed a compromis ourselves. And he adds that the sale lodged with him was prior to the other one so it counts!!!!!!!! Well, trying to relax and forget about the whole thing but am still not quite sure. At least I have that reply from him in writing should he say he has to hold back 9,000 euros from the proceeds when the sale goes through. (If it ever does!!) Thanks again everyone.
