  1. What is a doofer and where /what is ALIS '
  2. We have been using a Tom tom One, for several years, get on with it fine, my only complaint is that somtimes I can´t look at the screen to see whether the turn I´m taking is the correct one, and the road ,or very busy island at the same time, But we would not be without it, I love our Tom Tom!!

    Prefecture.

Unfortunatly Clair, while I´m having lessons ,my French is not that good yet!! There were three points for Carte Grise´s, what was everyone doing??
  4. Just spent the sfternoon getting car registered and new Carte Grise in Agen. Now I´m just being nosey! not everyone was there to register their car they had brought in from another country, what other paperwork is completed at a Prefecture?
  5. Just been to Agen ,Prefecture, hit for 441 euros for registering the car, but only got a provisional Crtificat d´Immatriculation, permenant one will apparently come in the post.
  6. Some time ago we arranged to hire a car from Barcelona airport to drive to our French holiday destination, quote included surcharge for collection from one airport delivery to another, in a different country. As we collected the car the lovely Avis lady told us the surcharge had been removed as they had a french car to go back to France, did we mind ??!!
  7. We had all the paperwork to say house inspected and passed before sale. Me thinks inspector had a white stick or possibly a dog with him. Old fosse, disconnected but full of ... well , in the house. all but one bathroom sink and five loos emptied into ditch outside.. kitchen sink, washing machine, three occupied apartments with sinks and bathrooms, five sinks and showers from B&B bedrooms upstairs... all into ditch, and he said it was OK !!
  8. Ok, am getting the white flag out to surrender!! But I have no clue what the DRIRE office is, or where it is local to Marmande?? help ,please!!
  9. I will not swear, I will not swear! We went to Marmande, yes it was open, but we came away, empty-handed and frustrated. Both cars have Spanish registration documents, both also have Cards, technicial inspection of vehicles, reg number, and stating, vehicle conforms to the european comunity rules. Lady behind counter first agreed that Jaguar card was correct then changed her mind. Is Agen worth a try, tried to argue, but in your rusty second language battling with her in full flow was impossible. Only trying to obey the rules within the stated time!
  10. Thats what I thought, the car insurance lady seemed to think that too, that Marmande would have to forward to Agen then back again.!
  11. Goodness! thanks for your answers!! Maricopa, you did indeed, but just said they won´t be there, actually having thought about it..of course VE day, penny dropped watching Foyle´s War on DVD last night!! Ernie, home and dry? .. we hope so! Rivets not screws...as in Spain. We are just happy to fit them ourselves, you have no idea how many number plates you see in Tenerife that look like the fitter had several litres too many of Sangria!! Gosub, if we go to Marmande, can we get the Carte Gris the same day??....... Anyone know if Prefecture in Marmande or Agen open on a Monday??
  12. Clair, thankyou so much for your answer, am going to build a wall rather than have a wasted journey to Agen! ?? Will they be open Monday? or do official offices normally work Mon to Fri, having only just moved here still getting to learn the French way!! Ernie? Certificate of conformity? both cars were issued with them in the document pack.
  13. Now I am confused, as I just rang(Thursday) to see if an ansa phone would give me details of opening times and someone answered, so they are working today....
  14. So far,so good. Both cars went for control technique on Tuesday and to our utter amazement both past, the skip only just! While we were waiting we went to the Hotel de Impots and got the quittas fiscal, off to prefecture on Friday to complete, while we are on a roll! Skip is insured with French insurance already, other car has Spanish insurance for another eight months, I think we will have to change it, as we do not have a green sticker for the window??
  15. We recently purchased ours in Castorama in Agen. Excellent publication too.
  16. Dearest Le P, have noted what you said, while we will not immediatly install a grease separator, hubby advises he is going to make a quick diversion to one outside the kitchen window possible in future. we are not ones to ask for advice then ignore it when we get it.
  17. Yep it was the most disgusting job I have ever been involved in.  I was not shovelling the grease by the way to those who enjoy the job.  No ,no, we were shovelling ancient human excrement....... excuse me ....
  18. AArrgghhhh!!! It turned out to be an old septic tank of considerable age, with human excrement, also of considerable age in it!! Using a one tonne hoist and some reinforced rigging to the floor above we have hauled this out and disposed of it!! We spent the afternoon shovelling  you know what!! an afternoon I wish to forget as quickly as possible.
  19. Hi, I may become known as little miss awkward! We are English which is why we read this forum for English, mainly moving or owning places in France. But we have moved from Spain to France, bringing a left hand drive Spanish bought and registered car to France.Actually two, one for best, and a loved little citreon, nicknamed the skip! So lights etc all correct, what do we need to do? Had to renew insurance just as we left , runs out in Dec 09, but I read over here a green sticker has to be shown to show insurance on windscreen? (I was assured insurance covered us living in France, but I don´t think they thought of the re-registering rule) or do I just tootle back over the border occasionally? I´m not sure the faithfull old skip will make it!! I´m sorry to introduce a thread that will be irrelivant for most readers!
  20. We arrived in our new home on the 28th Jan, came from a very warm climate, so although prepared to be cold, did not really appriciate just how debilitating minus three can be when you are not used to it, or find yourself that cold very quickly. But we survived, the days are warmer, and hard work helps! So far so good, no regrets, not missing work, only like a hole in the head!
  21. Blaster bates... or a man with a jack hammer!!!! Sorry.. could´nt resist!!!
  22. But wher-ever we are... we are no deeper in Greece/Grease than any other nationality??? Surely we are all eating heathier and not eating or cooking with solidifying fat as we were?  We have sat and thought about this, we do not put down the drain any fat that could solidify, oilve oil flows freely at any temperature. Anyway at the price of it here in France we put olive oil down our gullets.... not our sinks!!
  23. Actually it is 117 of them. Roof tiles. Flat with corregation rather than pan tiles, but not deep corregations. Size, 42cm by 25 cms, collection from 47, near Tonniens.
  24. Hello! me again!  Ok, The  1000 L tank in question has a label naming it a fosse liquifactotrise. It is definatly not rain water collector as it is in the house and collects nothing. But it is full of what looks like relativly clean water. It has an outlet joining the foul drain heading to the fosse it currently has no inlet, anyone any ideas? Le Plombier? The fosse is next to the house in fact touching the house, but more than ten metres away from the sink... do we need a grease separator??
