  1. Hi there, We are in the final throws of buying a house in piegut-pluviers; we complete on tuesday. We had a good look around the Aquitaine region, but immediately fell in love with PP. The house we are buying is also the first one we looked at and is about 2 mins out of the town centre. The people are lovely and friendly and the town very pretty. Good luck with the farmhouse viewing.
  2. We will hopefully be moving out to France in the next few months and are exploring all the jobs we need to do. One of those is obtaining vehicle insurance (when we have bought a left hand drive). We would be gratefull for any advice or info on obtaining car insurance, which is written in English so we know exaxctly what we are covered for.
  3. We are in the process of buying a lovely house in France and our thoughts came to decorating. How do you clean your brushes & rollers after use if you have a fosse septique? We just take it for granted in the uk by washing under tap, or using white spirit which is then thrown down the grid and we don't want to harm the bacteria in our fosse.
  4. thanks Wendy, I know there are 3 near to where we are buying a house so will suss out which one is best to use.
  5. thanks Judith, we can hardly believe it ourselves. Where is your holiday home? What work would you be looking to do ideally in France?
  6. What is the process for registering with a Dr and is there a cost to register?
  7. We are so excited we have found a property we love , had a survey, done all the mortgage stuff and the signing  of the compromis de vente is imminent. We looked at 15 properties over a couple of weeks in the Dordogne; and would you believe it we are having the FIRST one we saw. It spoiled us and nothing else came close. It is within walking distance of the lovely market town of Piegut Pluvier; so we are really looking forward to selling our house, though in no rush as we don't plan to move out permanently till next year........but who knows we may go sooner. I just wanted to share it with you all. Thanks
  8. I would like to thank everyone that has emailed me or pm'd me, the information is fabulous and very helpful. I think it is always better to have personal recommendations, that choose with a blind fold and a pin.
  9. Can anybody recommend a good building company that can provide us with a turnkey property in or around Lot-et-Garonne/ Dordogne area. We are coming over to France in 3 weeks and would like to look around for land and meet up with some reputable builders who could build a bungalow for us. If they have a website that would be fantastic as we could have a look at the type of properties they build and also get an idea of the price. We would also welcome info about timber framed new house builders in that area. (not chalets or wooden caravans) please either email or pm me. many thanks
  10. I doubt very much if my ICB would be revoked as my condition is not likelt to improve, however if that were to happen my husband would actually be at retirement age then so I could become his dependant on his E121. I think I am right with my way of thinking. I do think you are right in taking a fluent french speaker with me tho for any reviews, so thanks, I do appreciate your comments and advice.
  11. thanks for taking the time to reply to me. Yes it does seem a bit daunting, and hopefully they will give me a long review date as this one was about 2 years. I will certainly have to get my medical terminology up to scratch or make a close personal french friend who I don't mind knowing the ins & outs of my problems. Or possibly find a translator who could accompany me, I am sure there must be some around that do not charge an astronomical rate.
  12. I am in receipt of long term incapacity benefit and  I am hoping to move to France with my husband  this time next year and will qualify for E121 I think it is. My next incapacity benefit review is March 2009 which I still anticipate being in the uk for; however when we move to france who does the reviews, does anyone know the process?
  13. I really do appreciate your help & advice given, it has certainly given me a better insight (if not a headache too) and I will contact the benefits agancy and see what they say. It has certainly not detered our wanting to move out to france. In fact we are coming over in May for a couple of weeks.
  14. I need to check up the incapacity benefit info, as I can't find anything on the website as losing it when they pay my pension. Maybe I am worrying uneccesarily. I am currently in receipt of long term IB with  an age addition.
  15. This sounds pretty frightening. However am I right in thinking I will be covered once my hubby reaches 65? There is a bit of an age difference with us. If that is the case we may need to consider holding off our plans until later in 2009 rather than earlier. We both have paid into NI contributions  for years so being entitled to the E106 should not be an issue. I do currently receive ICB but I am led to believe that when I start to receive my work related pension (any time now) that I will possibly lose it. We also currently have private medical insurance with Bupa, would this possibly be transferable?
