  1. My money would be on the power supply is emitting HF-RFI (ooooerrr missus!) Time for a new hard disk power supply.  Perhaps you could prove the problem by connecting the external hard disk to your laptop and see if the problem goes with it? Mike
  2. and b: before switching the security off on your livebox be aware that your existing working wireless connections will need to be re-configured as they will stop working when the livebox re-starts. (as they will still be encrypting their traffic). It would be a good idea to ensure you have a working wired connection to your livebox to fall back on if you can't configure things correctly. open an internet browser window on your computer and (assuming you haven't changed any passwords or configuration of the livebox) enter   http://192.168.1.1   in the address bar. The home page from the livebox should greet you in a few seconds. Enter a username of admin and a password of admin. When the next page opens select wireless from the tabs across the top and you can can select none under security. I cant remember if the livebox reboots automatically then but if not then manually reboot the livebox. Your existing wireless connections then will not work and you will have to re-scan using either windows builtin wireless zero config tool or the propriety software associated with your wireless device.  I think you still have to press the pairing button on the livebox in order to allow the first communication with a new computer even with WEP turned off. Have fun Mike
  3. Yep.   copy the item number from ebay.fr and paste it in the search box on ebay.co.uk!!   Mike
  4. Hi all, anyone got any comments about SFRs' NEUFbox services? I am looking to reduce my communications costs from Orange+France Telecoms' combined 59 Euro a month (France Telecom 50 Euro every 2 months for the landline and Oranges' 34 Euro a month 1Mb broadband with ADSL phone)) to Neufboxs' 39.50 Euro a month package. As I understand it, I can take my existing landline number, switch to SFR, have an adsl phone and (probably) 2Mb broadband and loose the landline charges. I also believe that there is a single point of contact in the event of a problem arising with either the broadband service or the physical connection. Is this correct?   Mike
  5. The computer is trying to tell you that it cannot locate the files it requires to start up. These files are NOT on any floppy disk your son has inserted into the floppy drive.  Ensure that there is no disk in either the computers' floppy drive (otherwise known as its A: drive), or the cd drive(also known as the dvd or usually D: drive)  Switch on the computer. If you still get the error message the problem lies with a corrupted or faulty hard disk. Corrupted files MAY be replaced, normally by re-building the operating system (if you have the windows build disk or a compaq recovery disk), however you should first check the disk for physical errors. A faulty hard disk will require replacement and then the operating system restoring. Both of these jobs are best left for someone with enough experience to complete the task. Ask around if there is anyone able to perform this task for you at a reasonable cost. Any personal data (letters, photos etc) on the hard disk MAY be recoverable to another system, but this again is a job for someone with the experience to complete the task .....Ho-hum....who'd have a computer!!   Mike
