  1. Hi, We are just in the throws of finishing work on our village house which we hope to open as a Chambre d'hote next year. We have been to see the Maire who has agreed in principal, although we need to go back to see her to do the bits of paperwork. As initially it will be our only income can we register under the autoentrepeneur scheme for tax purposes. Any information gratefully received. Thanks Mel.

  3. Well, It's the day after the Velo-rail trip.......................Had a great time, only us booked in for the 2.30pm trip !!! really good afternoon out and despite only being us on the rail the volunteeer had turned up at Manot station to provide us with cold drinks and icecream etc.................we did need it by the time we got there as it's not an easy trip in that direction (it took us 1hour 15 mins), by comparison coming back it was only 50mins !!!!!!! We would recommend it for a trip out, but be sure your legs are fit for the Confolons to Manot trip !! Good luck for any prospective travellers Mel.

    fushia's

Hi, Got a litle bit of a problem with some fushia's that i have planted (they are hardy vareties bought from the UK a year ago) they are growing very well and producing flowers at the moment but some of the leaves are developing small brown edged holes in them...................any idea's what it could be. I can't see any bugs or mites, even with my glasses on ! Thought about using the rose spray to see if this helps but not sure if it will damage fushia's. Thanks Mel.
  5. Hi, Thanks for the replies, all great suggestions about drinks and eats etc. They are open as we have emailed them, but as it's still "out of season" you have to book to ensure someone is there. Think about the old legs (well not that old) when we are peddling away on thursday !!!! Thanks Mel.[:-))]
  6. Hi, Just a quickie, we are having my sister and hubby coming to stop next week and are thinking of going on the velo-rail (confolons to manot) one day, we have checked they are open and are going to book in the next few days, has anyone been on it and if so what did you think...........any info gratefully received. Thanks Mel.
  7. A big thumbs up for our first time on euro tunnel. We travelled at the begining of may with our dog, our crossing booked for 10pm...................we arrived early and got on to the next train crossing at 8.20pm !!!!! Saved us loads of time and got to our hotel in calais at a much more reasonable time, will definately use them again for a return trip.Is this a usual experience ??????????? Mel.
  8. Hi due to get delivery in Limoges on the 9th May...................if their standard of delivery and attention to detail is the same as it is  when ordering things, then it looks to be a great service. Will let you know how it all goes, just to echo others thoughts, I hope they can maintain the service at a competative rate as it will be very regularly used by us, especially with the exchange rate being so poor. We will probably use it for items that are really expensive in France but will obviously continue to shop locally for all our everyday essentials.
  9. Hi,  I know from experience that after using products purchased in france that I returned to the old favourite of using gloss paint as already suggested. All the other products produced patchy results and in some cases caused the overpainted emulsion paint to peel off when painted...................*^"*^" so back to gloss it was with the usual good results. Good luck.

    fabric

Hi there, Can anyone suggest a good fabric warehouse (if it exists) in the 87 area (or thereabouts). Have had a look around the usual stores and the fabric seems pretty expensive for the decent materials/patterns and I was wondering (and hoping) is there a good "inexpensive" fabric warehouse out there I have not seen yet? Any help/advice gratefully received...   Thanks

    Rabies jabs

Hi, Just been looking at some of the FAQS about the rabies jabs, my dog has had his jabs since 2006 with his subsequent boosters given while we have been in the uk.On his last booster the vet said that he was not due for further booster for 3 years now as the law has changed (his will be due Jan 2011). We are coming back to france for three months (with the dog)  I wonder if can someone can clarify the position about "a requirement for a yearly jab" if you are staying in france for more than a few weeks ???????Thanks for any information. Mel.
  14. Hi Clair......................HOW FAB ARE YOU !!!!!!!! God i must have had a very early senile moment !!!! I never even thought to look at the charge period !!!!!! Thanks so much for your prompt reply it's much appreciated you're dead right I just looked at my bill !!!!!!![:D] Thanks mel.
  15. Hello again, Since posting i've been looking at the threads and at my FT phone bills, my line rental is stated as 32 euro...........................am I paying too much, as it seems from the threads it should only be about 16 euro, I wonder if i'm paying for TWO phone points, there did use to be two in the house but when we moved in the one in the downstairs bedroom was never functioning and has since been removed, but still paying the 32 euro line rental and only just noticed this since posting !!!! Any thoughts ??? thanks mel.
  16. Thanks for that.... i thought when you subscribed to teleconnect they took over the line too. you live and learn. cheers again.
  17. Jay, you can now change your provider from FT to Teleconnect and rent the telephone line from them instead at a much lower monthly fee. I think this is what Cathy means.... Thanks for all the advice.
  18. Hi there, thinking of switching from france telecom to teleconnect for broadband and phone line and wondering if anyone out there uses the service? how do you find it? any problems with it? any advice gratefully received. thanks, mel..
  19. How witty and clever of the ladies at the croydon branch, I didn't know that heterosexuals could be soooooooo astute !!!!! I must relay the quote to my "gentlemen" friend" but I do agree................save us from the PC brigade.[;-)]
  20.  Hello teapot, What's with the IQUEER insert.....................is it an "in joke" ??????? [:'(]
  21. Hi Smudger 1, Just a bit of information, a good friend of mine was an experienced panel beater in the U.K. but was also a "none trained" gardener out of a very keen interest and self taught knowledge, when he early retired to france he set up his gardening business through all the correct channels (i.e. attended the 2 week course and got his siret number as required.) He set up the registered business without the need for "qualifications" and it has been a roaring success, most of his work has come via the local maire and also by word of mouth, he does general domestic garden projects but also much larger landscaping in local chateau's. Just thought i'd let you know his experience, hope it's of use to you.
  22. Hi, No advice from me i'm afraid as we are just about to embark on a similar project..................just to say thanks in anticipation for all the information. Good luck with your tiling Btuckey[;-)]
  23. Hi Mike Done this a number of times, on our way to bellac !!!! (we have a house in rancon, 87290) and no problems at all with the formule 1 hotels. Have a safe trip.[:D]
  24. The plot thickens..................and seems to be soooooooooo complicated, maybe at some point we should sell the french house before we become to decrepit and move back to the U.K. (some years away I might add) I hope it won't come to this as we haven't even moved there full time yet !! Maybe I should just stop looking into things too much and chill out ???? Thanks for all the information to the original query. Mel.[8-)]
  25. Hi annie, are you sure about that as I've been on the "getting married in france" part of the forum and have been told that you can only enter into a PACS in france if you are single, and quite clearly we are not, if you have time look at the reply that "vinny" sent to me under "civil partnerships". I would be very interested if this wasn't the case as it would perhaps mean as you said that we could perhaps consider a PACS  as well to relieve the heavy inheritance tax for us. Thanks again for your replies. Mel
