1. I would suggest choosing an agent that has a very good website - the Internet is becoming more and more important and we selected properties to view via the Internet. Some agents sites were terrible Paul
 2.
Hi! After you bought the house, have you advised the Taxe Foncières and Taxe d'Habitation department of the Tax Office ( Centre des Impôts, not the Trésorie ) of you new address? If not the bill will continue to land at the address on the deed. And it means some stress, because finally they will ask for 10% more. They are slowly modernising, in as much that if you declare, they then change those addresses internally - but at present you can not bet on that. Since the Foncière is due middle of October, best pop in the Centre des Impôts now. Yours, giantpanda PS. If you had done this earlier, it would have proably been possible to change that address on the service part of the Mairie - but now that it is out, that would only have effect next year.
Thanks Giantpanda (slightly different user name as this forum will not let me log on with my P2 password) No I did not advise the authorities - I was led to believe that I needed to not do anything. Earlier this year I received a letter with a form to pay the taxe d'habitation by direct debit - this was delivered to my UK address. Plus, I cannot pop in to the Centre des Impots - it would be no problem if I was in France but am in the UK at present, our French ome is only a holiday home at present and we will not be back in France until the 17th. Hence my trying to send a cheque drawn on our French bank account to pay without the payment slip but enclosing a letter quoting the details off of our last bill plus adding a bit for an increase.
