1. Good luck Sprogster and chip in from time to time to let us know how you're coping outside la belle France!
2. I used to have a lot of that, but the glysophate got rid of it. As already said, may be purslane but I don't want it on our drive! S.
3.
I thought Val was referring to AI, not FE, with the "stupid questions".
Thanks, Pat ......... I really should pay more attention! Completely understand Val's comments now. S.
4.
Well I keep getting notifications from FE regarding questions posed but cannot help as I cannot log on anymore. I did get on there for the first time since they changed just over a week ago now and that took five days before it would clear me and because we had a power surge again and the PC shut down, I lost my automatic login and have not been able to get on again for over six days now. To be honest I had a look at the threads and there is hardly anything new. I think there are lots of us from this forum who also went there and no way would I go on the local AI, that really is a nasty place now with stupid questions you only have to google to find out and then those who respond are adamant they are correct even if the official info is totally different. Its true if you tinker with something that is working well, you only end up breaking it.
Val, do you have any examples of the "nasty place with stupid questions" on FE, now? I would agree it got a bit like that but, since the change (perhaps not unentirely unconnected?!), it seems to have lost the idiots. S. (still on FE and here)
5. After a short while here the missus kept asking what day is it? Guess we had become tooooo retired! She still asks and I still don't know. Does that make me grumpy? S.
6. Thanks, Judith. I felt queasy travelling the 6 or so hours from the Piraeus to Paros, but it was 1992 on a typical Greek ferry. Bought a "cabin" when onboard and found that much better. Survived an 8-hour crossing from Cherbourg to Weymouth in a force 10 - yes, they DID sail! - but don't wish to start & end a holiday in that way. Mrs WDII? is also not a keen sailor but we both like the idea of driving to Roscoff and waking up the following morning in Ireland, with everything she (!) can put in the car as opposed to aircraft luggage. Seems May should miss the worst of the weather, unless we're very unlucky, and a premium cabin, rather than a basic one, will make things more comfortable. Looks like we'll chance it. Thanks again, S.
7. Thanks, idun ......... we're not brilliant sailors and that crossing can be a bit "lively" if you're unlucky, we've been told. Guess we'll do it if we feel lucky! Thanks again, S.
8. Thanks, Gardian. The crossing is only €129 each way, but a deluxe cabin pushes that up by around €90. Still, not too bad when considered against the cost of driving to the UK and taking a shorter crossing. Thanks for the positive feedback! S.
9. The missus wants to go to Ireland next year, ideally in May, and I see that we can go direct by ferry from either Roscoff or Cherbourg. Neither of us are brilliant sailors and although it's a long crossing it's at night and we'd hire a cabin. Has anyone done that route, please? Would you recommend it? Cheers, S.
10. Thanks to those who have replied - sorry my question mark is causing problems! I think we're alright so far, as I canna see the FE troublemakers have migrated here ........ yet! S.
11.
Hi, GY. Maybe you could PM some of the old-timers on FE who are getting fed up with the site! Beware, though, any dissent will see you sent home from school over there.
I sent a couple of pms asking where everyone was going but no reply yet ........ perhaps folk daren't/the replies have been blocked? Anyway, I'll persevere a little longer. S.
12. B*gger ......... rumbled at the first hurdle! Didn't think it was fair to hide and post under a (long-) assumed moniker. Well done Pommier and JSKS! Now .......... where's all the fun around here? S.
13. Not sure if this is the correct thread as I am still a member of FE and not therefore an "ex". But who am I? I don't even know what day it is.
14. Just booked Calais/Dover & return by P&O 2-8 October for £64 return, including a £4 fuel surcharge which is clearly stated on the site. Travel times are midday/early afternoon, so no tiring night trips without food. The shuttle was at least twice as expensive, even travelling first/last thing, and 3 times if during the middle of the day. I see, however, that you can buy 10 shuttle trips for £390, so only £39 per crossing if you do enough trips.
15. Make sure you get one which blows as well as sucks! As Pierre says, on suction the basket/collector quickly fills, but I find it more useful to blow the leaves into a pile and then collect or burn them ....... lots of fun, too!
16. I was told that it's illegal to use propane indoors - only butane can be used? Haven't checked it myself but you may wish to, Lisleoise. Stuart
