  1. Auchan is over 45 mins from us but nice to go now and again. Apart from KFC they also have the Hippopotamus restaurant which is part of a chain and we used one when we were in Paris and the food was good. Also there is a drive through called Quick and a new Pizza place. Inside the mall there is of course Flunch which is also good value for money, a Chinese eat as much as you like and an Italian place but that is mailnly Pizzas and Chiabbata type sandwiches. Honestly, I do go for the other shops as well and not to just scoff.
  2. We had a shopping trip to Auchan this afternoon and decided to go into KFC and I must say it was really very nice. They also have some delighful little dessert like Tirimisu and Panna Cotta. Free refills for soft drinks as well so all in all quite a pleasant meal all round. It is nice to have that sort of thing now and again but it is the only "fast food" that I will eat as I dislike beef burgers and sausages.
  3. I have just had my 30th.anniversary  and I did not  know it was PEARL  otherwise I would have stung him up for something really nice but never mind as it is the second time around  he is forgiven  [:)][:)][:)]
  4. Silly me...I thought it said "  big guns "  and we were talking about the Chasse again  [:D] [:D] [:D]
  5. We booked with Ryanair a few weeks ago and we need to get to Bristol so we are having to fly from Begerac, probaly a good 2 to 3 hour drive from us. We thought the price per person was very good then on went the taxes, baggage charge and they charged us 20 euros for the privilage of booking with them so I for one are not too impressed with this airline.  We could have driven but it is almost six hours to the ferry which is OK going as not far to travel the other side but a pain coming back having to drive all that time after a six hour crossing. We normally fly La Rochelle to Bristol but they stop flights during the winter months. Wish Ryanair would do Poitiers to Bristol that would be great for us but I suppose the volume of people trying to get to the West County does not warrant it.

    Additional Dog

I also have a very old Cocker Spaniel lady who is almost blind, deaf and is certainly on her last legs now but she has seen off two Boxer dogs and we now have a very lively French resucue Labrador. Since we took her in at the age of two years old she has always been the boss and our Labrador knows his place and he adores her even though she has beome a very crotchety old thing. She has always been my dog and OH had the bigger Boxer dogs and now he is adored by the Labrador and follows him everywhere. I agree with the other posts, taking your beloved old dog with you to choose his new friend and to walk with them together and most dogs in refuge centres are initially very excitable but will soon quieten down if walked away from the kennels and it could mean more than one visit and walks to get to know the dog you may take.Good luck and chose well and wisely.
  7. I really hope you manage to get in touch and you must be so very excited. Please keep us upated with this wonderful story and  what a lovely Christmas present it would be for you. I wish you all the luck in the world.
  8. Smashing news. Fingers and toes crossed that it all works out well for her. She deserves to have so much love, poor little lady.
  9. Okey Dokey  Bugbear  [:)]  [:)]
  10. I am off to Auchan next week and wondered if anyone knows if the KFC is open yet. Yes I know I am sad but a little of what you fancy does you good now and again
  11. I am with you on that one Bluecat as I think Dancing on Ice is incredible. To think some of these celebs have never been on ice skates before and to what they achiieve at the end of the programme is amazing. I say to people don''t knock what you could never manage to do yourselves.
  12. Sunny weather !! I thnk I will have to move further south as we have only had about three decent days in the past few weeks. Yes, the neighbours might have been somewhat surprised.
  13. My eldest son and his partner in UK have just added to their menagerie of two cats, parrot and a German Shepherd. The new addition is a gorgeous British Bulldog / Shitz Tzu puppy and my son wanted to call him Bulls**t but his girl friend said NO. It made me smile on a wet miserable day here in France.

    cornflour

What is it cornflour called in France. I googled it and it came up  Farine  mais which is actually a straight translation for flour and corn.Any other ideas of what can be used if not availbe here.
  16. So glad he has stepped down. It is a dancing competion and he CANNOT dance. I am totally disinterestd and normally occupy myself by trying out new recipes but I can still hear OH shouting his disapproval in the background so at least that will stop now.
  17. We have the Chasse in the woods around our house and occasionally across the field at the bottom of our garden. OH was in the garden with our dog when the Chasse saw a rabbit running across our garden, they turned and raised their guns but thought better of it. I have never seen OH moves so fast running into the house as he was convinced they were going to start shooting into our garden for the rabbit.

    Pampas Grass

I think Sarlat may be just a bit too far for us but a big thank you for the offer. I will have a look in some garden centres around here and Pads has recommended some other grasses as well, she really looks after me. I do wonder after what others have said if it would be possible to dig it up and I would hate to see you wasting hours trying to no avail.
  19. Still no one for Lily. Some one must want her, she is lovely.

Pads  I have mailed you back. Shape into something ? You are not aware of my gardening expertise are you but you should be by now as my veggie plot only went well because of all your advice.  We have a freezer full of Runner Beans and frozen Spicy Cabbage soup thanks to you.    [:)][:)]

    Pampas Grass

Thank you for the offer WJT. Where do you live so that I can see how far from us and after reading Ron's reply, would it be possible to dig it up with tangled roots  etc.

    Pampas Grass

Gosh !! They are definately a permanant fixture then. We have a very long garden,, mostly grass and i had thought of using it as a center piece to break it up somewhat. Any other suggestions for a biggish plant to use for this.  I have not given up on the idea of Pampas Grass but will consider other ideas. Thank you for all your replies.
