1. Absolutely shocking news. I sincerely hope SD and his wife make a speedy recovery.
  2.
It really makes me laugh though, the threads where people offer to bring over and sell us tonnes of plaster/Kingspan, or what have you, as they think we who live here can't find or get on with French equivalents.
I wish it made me laugh.[:(] I still can't find a French equivalent for Kingspan
  3. I've heard about sunrises ,but thought they were just a myth[:)]
  4. Try other transporters. If you look on the Agriaffaires website there are tractor transporters advertising all over France.
  5. I think maude covered it by stating there are too many variables to say how many times it should fire up in an hour. It all depends.
  6.
My comment was partly based on the OP writing "rewire" rather than "wire". BTW who check compliance with this regulation ? John
The Consueil.   It will probably only ever be checked when you come to sell and the buyer requests it,or it is a totally new installation or your insurance company request it.

    pony wanted

What sort of pony? What size pony? Will the pony have company? Do you want a young pony or an old pony? Do you want one that is backed or unbroken? Are you an experienced home? Do you need a schoolmaster? Presumably you have stabling and grazing.? With this sort of request you should really supply much more information as to your needs, experience etc.
  8.

The french, in general terms, are a lovely, gentle people. Treat them with contempt and you simply reap what you sow. Treat them as you would a friend and you're actions will be reciprocate
You are talking about the French as individuals here, not as a nation.
Thank for explaining to me what I'm talking about..................
Sorry I wasn't trying to explain to you what you were talking about. I was just trying to point out that there is a difference.[:$]
  9. I think you'll find it's not an obsession but the regulation for a new installation
  10. I rewired mine putting a point in every room and I asked an FT engineer who was inspecting the original FT installation if this was ok and he said no problems. Only a two wire system.. FT fed to a master socket and I came away from that.
  11. I think that threads such as these can also be split down to people who have retired to France and people who have come to work in France.  Even the French complain about the obstacles that are put in front of anyone with any entrepenurial spirit. People who move here and start businesses and especially if they wish to employ will come up against far more frustration than someone who rises at 10 has a few glasses of wine, potters about in the garden , sits down in the evening and watches english television before going to bed after another hard day. As has been said the French people are lovely warm ,welcoming people who like people rather than belongings but they are also the people who create a beauracracy that has to be experienced to be believed. They are the people who are still working to systems and laws put in place by Napolean. Sarkozy is making an attempt to drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Because it's not just some of the people on here who think the French have a problem. It's a lot of the French as well ,which is why Sarkozy got voted in. To say that if you don't like France go and live somewhere else is ignoring the problems that France has. Again,I'm referring to France the nation rather than French individuals or geographic France.
  12.
I don't wish to criticise Lizzie's owner futher as has been said, we don't really know the full circumstances.  However I don't buy that 'small garden' excuse.
I spoke with the owner and it wasn't just the small garden, or as I understood it no garden. It was that the property they were renting belonged to the commune and the commune would not allow her to keep dogs there.

  14.
I am hoping to set up as a qualified Equine Massage Therapist.  My turnover will probably be quite small, say less than 5,000 a year.  Cheers Lynda P.S.  I am learning French but..........
Lynda ,you've got to set your sights higher. If you expect your turnover ,not profit to be under 5000 a year ,it really won't be viable. To coin a phrase "It's not worth getting out of bed for"
  15.

Hi Jura, just a question - and it's not meant to be rude or aggressive, it's a serious question.[:)] Why do you continue to live in France if you dislike it so much?
I've been itching to ask that for a long time. I think many of us would be interested in the answer.
I think from reading Jura's post He/she? is not complaining about France but the French. There can be many reasons for living in France and even more for disliking the French as a nation.
  16. Never mind the legalities.    What a beautiful car that is
  17. Well let's hope that no news is good news. I'm sure that if there's a problem we'll hear about it.
  18.
As far as I know, Lizzie's future is still not confirmed ?
I don't understand this comment.[8-)] As I understand it Lizzies future is confirmed with Spanielle. If Spanielle has a problem I will have her. As no one has got back to me ,I would think Lizzies future is pretty well confirmed with Spanielle.
  19. I have exactly the same problem. Fortunately I have a fluent French speaking friend who phones up for me when the phone doesn't work and although Orange deny that the fault is with them the phone always comes back on after one of these calls.[:@]
  20. I do think some posters are being a little harsh in their judgements. I have spoken to the owner and she does seem genuinely and badly upset. I know some of us would rather sleep in a cardboard box than be parted from our pets but everyones circumstances are different.   Anyway as I've said If Spanielle has a problem taking Lizzie I will have her so she will have a home to go to. I currently have a GSD x Retriever and a terrier and previously I had a very large GSD dog for fourteen years. I've had other dogs before but I've never bonded with a dog like I have with a GSD. Anyone who has had one will know what I mean. This may sound daft to some but I honestly believe that my last dog would have died for me and me for him.
  21. In defence of the owner she said that the smaller house they are moving into is rented and is owned by the commune and they will not allow her to have Lizzie there.
  22.
Pimpernel, did she mention the possibility of having her put down then ?
Yes, she said that if she could not rehome Lizzie she would have to go to the pound and she believed that they only held them for a few weeks before putting them down.
  23.
I've spoken to the owner this morning.  She still has the dog at present.  A gentleman phoned last night enquiring and is presently consulting his wife.  The offer was left in her hands.  I have said that Lizzie is priority and she should decide where the dog would be happier rehomed.  The other caller lives closer than I do too.  I should like to add that the owner seems a very caring person and is absolutely devastated in parting from her dogs but realises that they'd be happier elsewhere than living in a tiny 1 bedroom, 1 lounge house with little or no garden.  My sympathies are with her. So, luckily all seems to be ending well for Lizzie anyway!
It was me who phoned last night (and I'm no gentleman[:D]) and My wife phoned again this morning. We have left it that you take Lizzie and if you have  a problem we'll take her. If you can definitly give her a home then you should have her. Us having her would be dependent on her getting along with an elderly dog we already have. But I would work around any problems rather than she be put down.
  24. Right, I've thought more than twice in my life about this subject. And I still maintain overfeeding children is child abuse. It is not abuse to the same degree as physical abuse but it is still abuse. I'm sorry if this touches a nerve. My father also had a violent temper and I think one of the reasons I was so fat was my parents feeling guilty and feeding me by way of compensation, to ease their own consciences. My brother and I both left home as soon as we were able (15) and my younger sister had her arm broken during one of my fathers tempers. So please don't lecture me on child abuse. Childhood for me was not a happy time.
