  1. I think everyone here ,is sunk in an alcoholic haze as they no longer have the energy to post. Sad, really.!
  2. Gosh, I remember Twinkle, she used to, well, Twinkle. So sad she has gone. Says few words for me, please.
  3. The figure of €42000 seems very high for pulling down an old barn. I may be wrong, but my suspicions suggest that you should at least ask to see the details of the bill before paying anything.
  4. You are so tactful; perhaps you should have said that France doesn’t know what she is getting!
  5. Will you be giving up your British passport, seems logical?
  6. My lovely Bird was even put on an earlier tunnel as there were so few cars. Car park was empty too as I said before. Where are they all?
  7. Folkestone Tunnel car park empty. Brits staying at home?
  8. The article in LeMonde shows an amazing career. He seems to be respected by everyone, BUT, he has never never had a job in the private sector. Pity. https://www.lemonde.fr/politique/article/2020/07/03/qui-est-jean-castex-le-nouveau-premier-ministre_6045103_823448.html There is also much disquiet in France about to possibility of covid resurging when the schools restart in September. Which would be a challenge to him.
  9. Hulot was too narrow minded, intolerant and impatient to work in government. He was offered posts under other Presidents but preferred to be the constant guru, the Critic, rather than get his hands dirty.. What was the name of that UK TV commentator who thought he was God? Same, same. Oh, and he owned 5 cars!
  10. It seems that there is to be a court case in the highest court in the land brought against members of the French government for the equivalent of a criminal offence over Covid, alleging that not enough was done to help those who got the illness. The case is being brought, apparently by private individuals. https://www.lefigaro.fr/actualite-france/covid-19-une-enquete-judiciaire-sera-ouverte-contre-edouard-philippe-olivier-veran-et-agnes-buzyn-20200703 Norman, please have a read and see if I have got this right.
  11. They kicked you off there didn't they, for being a prime prat? What’s wrong, baby, couldnt you cope?
  12. One of the gifts which I was born with is the ability to whisper to sharks. I have just had a conversation with a hunting pack and asked them to concentrate their efforts on the beaches around Nimes et Montpellier, concentrating particularly on removing a certain mouthy Brit from circulation. Several of them were very wary as they said that there was some raddled meat that even they would not touch! And what we have been pouring into the swimming pools wouLd make even rats flee.
  13. I am not really complaining, just surprised and glad to see the renovation of the village. Younger families, better lives, I hope.
  14. A purely theoretical question but I dont wanna hijack the price differences thread: Can folk please hazard opinions as to whether they would be better off as individuals from a tax, rates and other fixed costs point of view in France or UK? Presuming pensions and no mortgage or rent to pay?
  15. Since the end of lockdown ( well, some time before the official date) village of something less than 300 souls has gone nuts; It feels as if half the houses in the village are having major surgery ranging from new roofs to semi demolition and reconversion. The village population is getting younger as the property left by the older generation is snapped up. It is, I think, a sign of confidence and of cheap money but It doesnt half put the noise level up. Jack hammers, drills, saws, cranes..... they all seem to be going at the same time. Even the pavements have been done. What next? Well I put my money on superfast broadband as there are notices throughout the area announcing its imminent arrival. Which of course means digging up the new pavements! Well, there we are, back to the garden, fruit picking and deadheading today Plus a bit of repotting. Nice is retirement!
  16. GG, you could go next week, surely?
  17. Best for a while, Norman!???????
  18. Yes, Norman, I’d read that too. It seems that most of the towns in the southern France east west strip are toying with the RN. Is it because of population shifts, immigration, unemployment or what?
  19. Norman, are you Doctor Omar?
  20. I often wondered what the noise was. it sounded like themold song Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem Dry Bones! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/28/french-revolution-remains-discovered-in-walls-of-paris-monument Are the heads there too or did they go to make saucisson?
  21. He is, of course, talking a load of rollocks, as ever. No hang on, dont insult rollocks as they are at least useful. Let say hippy cra p instead!
