1. We had a lidl turkey last year, it was nice so I will get one this year. I think they're in the chilled cabinet already
2. Thanks to all. The car is around 21 years old, a diesel Skoda Fabia and for its age still just keeps going on and on. It's just passed the CT. It does many miles each year, but is good on fuel consumption. So we think it is still worth having jobs done. We've decided to go with a UK mechanic as the price quoted here - 500 euros - is more than half the cost in the UK and that is allowing for the exchange rate.
3. Well at least you lot saw something ? it was too cloudy here so I saw nothing. Very disappointed as when I realised how old I could be for the next one, oh it doesn't bear thinking about. I hope to see the next one in December, although it's not as likely to be quite so big.
4. Oh Mint sorry to hear you have a poorly dog and a broken rib, ouch, I know how painful that is having had several in the past. It's very cloudy here tonight so I don't think I'm going to see it. Fingers crossed for tomorrow perhaps. Hoping you both have a speedy recovery.
5. We supplied all our documents, those that were needed in English and were never asked to have them translated, and we've changed Departments from 22 to 24 in those 13 years since 2003.
6. Sorry I found this late as I've just done a Netflix search. We have a Samsung Smart Tv, but I can't find the Netflix app on it, and when I key in manually it comes back saying it can't find it. How does it work please? Our TV is around 5 years old now and set up for internet (I think). I manage to get BBC News 24 on it and a few other useless things.
7. Apparently Orange changed my contract, gave me more time of internet but took away my ability to send/receive texts outside of France. So I'm waiting for the new contract to start, which is exactly the same money but I presume less internet. I've been given a new sim card, err, now with Iphone does it let you copy your contacts to the phone itself so you can then install on the new sim card??? I have a feeling it doesn't.
8. Son only usually gets hold of me when he's got wifi so don't know but OH usually can't
9.
I know it costs extra as SMS abroad aren't included but I think it should send. You are knocking out the 0 before the Uk mobile number aren't you so 07xxxxxxxx becomes 0044 7xxxx Can you call the number as opposed to texting? Just a thought. I use Viber for extended calls after sending a beep to alert the other person.
Thanks for your help and yes Norman I am leaving off the 0, and no I can't even phone these numbers. I rarely need to phone from my mobile as I have free to landline calls from the house phone. Facetime works when the other person has wifi, as does whatsapp but my OH who doesn't understand how to use the internet (yes in this day and age) I would rather just be able to send a text/sms. It's very annoying !
10. I have a cheap (14,99 euros) a month contract, Iphone 5 but, for some unknown reason anyone I send a message to with a UK phone number it won't send. Strangely enough, when I was last in the UK the ONLY person I could phone and text was our daughter, who also has an Orange contract in France. I thought as long as you have credit (I always do) a text message should send - I use 00 44 so presume that is right. The only way I can contact people in the UK from France is by wifi with Facetime or Whatsapp. Some of my contacts don't have IPhones. What am I doing wrong or is it my contract?

le mandat cash

I think you made the right decision not to buy this Leboncoin one. A few years ago we saw a car for our daughter on it, thought we would like to see it but was asked for the money by the La Poste system before we had even seen it. Of course we declined. Recently our daughter's friend was scammed with an apartment. She had seen it on the internet (not sure if it was Le Bon) and was sent many email messages from the so called "owners" asking her to pay up front and was told she would get a code that only she could see once she had paid. She paid the 800 euros, without even seeing the flat (yes, young and very naive) via the post office. She was given a code, but once she clicked on that online the scammers had her money! She went to the police to report it but there was nothing they could do so she lost her money. She learnt a very valuable and costly lesson.

Dog chasing cats

We fostered a kitten a couple of years ago and was a bit concerned about how much our 6 year old dog seemed to "love" the kitten, playing what appeared quite roughly at the time, but both animals seemed to enjoy each other, and softer moments proved this. Since then we adopted another kitten ourselves, our dog just loved him, played rough with him, played gentle with him and now 2 years on, protects him from our other cats if she thinks he's geing attacked. My point is maybe they are just playing?
13. Best nights apparently are tonight and tomorrow. If anyone wants to see set the alarm clock for just before dawn. I'm bound to be getting up to use the toilet so will have a peep out then.
14. It's a stupid "craze". However, I personally don't like clowns, I just avoid them whenever possible ? It brings back memories of a 10 year old son wanting to buy his "girlfriend" a gift from Venice when we went on holiday many moons ago. We toured around Venice and saw so many of those horrid masks, if I never see one again it will be too soon. On the plus side, loved Venice.
15. Thanks Gluestick for posting that link, interesting reading indeed.
16.
I can verify that mogs is really a cat lover. Two years ago she fostered a kitten which arrived on our doorstep just a few weeks before we were going on holiday to New Zealand for a month. I put a plea on this forum for someone to look after him as he was too young for jabs and, hence, catteries. She immediately volunteered despite the fact that she had no idea who we were. The kitten had a wonderful time and they even sent us little video clips while we were away. She also took in a cat who was being mistreated. Theirs is a house where their 3 or is it 4 cats and dog rule the roost. I'm sure, Mogs, that time will heal the scar and your feelings about cats. Just think that he didn't really mean it.
Thank you Minnie for such lovely words, and a good friendship has come of such a small gesture on our part. Sue - yes I know that he wouldn't have done it if he hadn't been distressed and probably in some pain. In the end he had to be sedated, we will opt for this every time in future as he's going to need quite frequent blood tests, he's been diagnosed with early kidney disease as well as thyroid problems. I definitely won't be holding him the next time. He's now on special Renal food and at 13 years old with arthritic hips (he had a hip op earlier this year) who knows how long he will be with us. It's obviously quite a common thing for cats to bite the knuckle area, wow, it is pretty painful for me but I'm pleased the infection is getting better and only another week to go before the stitches are out!
17. Having just been bitten my one of my own cats, when the vet was trying to take blood, it put me in hospital for 3 days, emergency surgery and now on penicillin for another 10 days, I can tell you I'm not very happy about cats atm. I've always been a cat lover, and adored my own cats but this just takes the biscuit. A cat we've loved, given a good home to, rescued from a house fire 6 years ago and he turns on me like that. Oh back to your own problem - I've heard citrus peelings scattered about helps deter them as they don't like the smell of that.
18. Thanks for replies. It is all sorted, a reliable electrician has been around (used and recommended by a friend) and he found the 2 interrupter switches on the main fuse board. So after he rebooted the system the heating is now working. However we still have the issue of finding someone who can service the system. Just out of interest, what exactly should a service incorporate for this system, ie. pump a chaleur?
19. It is a DeDietrich system, under floor heating with an outside pump chaleur. After turning it off for the summer, today I tried to turn it back on low and it's coming up with an error. We've always had problems trying to restart it after turning it off and have had the original leccy's boy around to sort it out. I've repeatedly asked for a service and it has not been serviced. So now we are told it wouldn't be covered under the guarantee as it hasn't been serviced. However, we couldn't get hold of the original electrician so had to call out another one who deals with the same system. He's told us that it hasn't been installed correctly as there should be 3 interrupter switches, he checked our main fuse box and clearly there is nothing that works the De dietrich unit. We've always just turned on and off via the unit itself. So the new electrician contacted the project manager, who employed the original electrician to do the work for our new build, but the PM is telling us we have to deal direct with the original electrician and it's nothing to do with him. We never exchanged any contract or money with the electrician, just with the PM. So, sorry for long background details but we need to know who our gripe is with - him as the PM whom we paid OR the electrician who didn't do the work properly? The original electrican has already been bankrupt and then set up as a new company and we don't have his number now but I'm sure we could find this out. We have a new electrician coming to give us a devis of what should have been done when the installation took place. Have no idea how we stand and can see a lot of expense trying to get the situation put right.
20. Blimey we have friends who live that way and they didn't hear a thing. Thanks for posting Hoddy
21. Yes I think you're right Pierre, neither myself or my neighbour actually heard the jet, usually you here them coming but not this morning. He saw the jet and like me only heard the explosion until after the jet had flown over. Just now I took our dog for a brief walk along the lane and heard a jet then saw it fly right over me. I usually wave if I see them, they must think I'm mad
22. Yes Hoddy it was about that time, I phoned my daughter just after who works in the local town (Gourdon) and she said she wondered what it was too.
23. I was today going about my business as usual when suddenly there was an explosion and our house literally shook. All the cats and our dog were disturbed, as was I, I first thought it was a bomb going off in our nearest local town. It set the pool alarm off. I went out into the garden and saw my neighbour, he had the same thing happen to him and said it was a Euro fighter going through the sound barrier. He apparently saw the jet but neither of us heard it until the explosion. We seem to be on the flight path for the Euro jets when they train so often have them going right over the house at times. This is the first time I've ever had an experience like this. It was pretty scary. Anyone else had similar experiences?
