1. You are so right, one of the reasons I don't miss working in it. Dull and boring to watch. Cevert, Depaillier, Stewart, etc, I like motor RACING! Fortunately we have a superb kart track in Bergerac, and a better when near Agen!! And again your so right, I once sat opposite Wilko Johnson, who I had always been told was, "an average guitarist". He played three guitar parts all at once. So well I was looking around the room to see where the others were. Didn't pick up a guitar for months!
2. Alonso drove well??? I was "watching" the timing pages on line, the mother in law is really watching Gregory Peck dressed as a sailor! In summary, didn't see the race[:@] I always liked Knoffler, he says he can still remember what a Fender catologue smells like!
3. I look smaller!!! Thank you, I'll adjust asap. I may be waiting for the GP, just that now we're at the mother in laws in the UK, I may have to "watch it" on the timing pages from the official website, and imagine!!! Off to the Knoffler site!! Watching a genuine Esquire black scratchplate on Ebay, £4.99 at present, could be problem solved.
4. BB , Picture? I 'd reduce the size if I knew how, so I'll delete it, I can do that!! It's weird isn't it? I have worked with the producer of the Motorsport DVDs for 9 years, met him covering F1, and last week I found out he has a Strat and a 1962 Tele!! Zoon fx boxes are brilliant, I got my son a Zoom GFX707, has a built in tuner, drum machine, can record yourself doing loops and play along, and 100s of effects. If only I were up to using them all!
5. Really? what F1 ? Your initials wouldn't be DB would they per chance?? So many questions. I currently write and present a motorsport DVD, wouldn't mind filming your F1 run? How am I supposed to build a guitar with this distracton!!![:D] If it's charity let me know maybe I can help?
6. Last run before I mucked my leg up (temporarily!) ex Alboreto F187
7. I once had a blast in a Modus F3 another Marquart car, ex Tony Brise, and recently found out that Peter Warr (ex Lotus) lives 40 mins away!!! F2, beat me by one, half a season of F3! (class B as well)
8. I am tempted to do this as a full Fender "Spanish Electric" rep, the forerunner of the Esquire (complete with Bakelite pick guard), but I have also toyed with the idea, of doing a modern take on the single pick up Esquire, hence my visit to weldom to look at various sheets of polished metal, I will make up my mind soon!! Having worked in F1 and the world rally championship, and a short burst in the music industry, I'd go with the musicians every time!! Sir Stirling is a truely nice bloke, gave me hours of help on my last book, and didn't want a thing in return, and still very very quick in a car!
9. I think bakerlite may be over egging the pudding for a replica! Worth it if it was a real Fender, but sdaly it's not! (I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy!)
10. Blimey, thanks for the in depth answer! I will plug the hole, as I want to be as close to the single pick up Esquire as possible, and until I decide on the scratchplate (I need a sheet of bakerlite!!!) I was going to use it without a scratchplate. The wiring for the Esquire isn't ultra complicated, but If I am going to reproduce it, best do it ptoperly!!!
11. We had the livebox, and had problems. I contacted France Telecom (the English speaking number) and was told "they aren't very good on certain of our lines, or in certain areas" and they swapped it for a Sagem ADSL box, which has been faultless.........
12. Cheers. I managed to get an Esquire wiring diagram, now when we go back to the UK I need to get some capacitors, and find my soldering iron! I have now read about 15 books about Telecasters, and not one knows if there was a unused void for the bridge pick up, or if it was put in when Leo decided to sell it as the two pick up Broadcaster. As there seems to be a bit knowledge reading this, than I have, would I get a change in sound if I plug the void with a more dense wood?
13. I have cut the plug for the bridge pick up, because none of the books I have looked at tell me if the Esquire had a cavity for the bridge pick up or not, so I am going to assume not, and glue the plug in, and sand smooth. I also ahve to get my head around the wiring for the Esquire, as the selector switch alters the tone settings. I wont be painting it for a while, shame[:(]
14. I have to say, I think that would suit me very very well. Are there any time limits on it, or how often, we can travel back and fore as often as every three weeks.
15. I know for a fact I am up and moving weeks ahead if I had been in a traditional plaster, the aircast is superb. I was also surpised by the French doctors reaction to what the English surgeon did to me. The were astounded by the sheer weight of the first plaster, and that no treatment had been offered as regards DVT, although I cannot say I enjoyed injecting myself for 28 days, but there is definetly a leaning toward prevention, rather than cure!
16. If that smiley can ride a bike, I must be able to!
17. Still limping, still can't get into my garage, lid still on the box, go back to UK for three weeks Saturday. Fed up? YEP
18. You have my sympathies! I have developed a single mindedness to get in that March at Goodwood, though this morning I couldn't even push the clutch down in a Volvo (I wasn't planning to drive, honest). Your story reminds me of the quote, "my brain is writing cheques that my body can't keep"!!
19. According to my "Big Boys Book of Quotes" Fields said scondrel, but from what I have read, he could have said much much worse!
20.
Just love it Steve! Presumably you did the artwork? Fantastic. Jude [:D]
I wish!! The actual painting was done by a motorsport artist friend of mine, Arthur Benjamins, although I supplied some sketches of what I wanted, and Arthur filled in the colours! But it turned out exactly as it appeared in my head. Only once have I written the text, taken some of the pictures inside the book, AND drawn and supplied the artwork for the cover, turned a one year project into a three year one!
21. We should be used to all this with the French love of anacronyms TTFN!!
22. Funnily enough they are nicknamed "Robocop" boots, but it's done nothing for my desire to arrest people! From memory the March has quite a tight footbox, so I need to shed a LOT of swelling, and a lot of "if I sit and recover, but still eat and don't excercise" build up!! I tried throwing the other crutch away this morning, stood and wobbled for a while and sort of crawled to the wall for support. Wimp!
23. Just to show off, I walked today with only one crutch and the "techno boot", and if all goes well, I aim to be walking with just the boot by Sunday. The biggest problem is the desire to advance, and get back to normal against going too fast and mucking it all up!!!! The car is calling me, as is that F2 March!!!!!! Now, how's the daughter's scooter going Aly??
