  1. As I First said I’m a complete novice when it comes to electronics, I was looking for some input from you people as this started as an idea for an alternative as opposed to a satellite, some of the companies I emailed hadn’t got a clue then on the other hand others where very clued up on this subject and claim that VDSL is a good alternative to satellite. The Humax decoder that I purchased comes with a Canal Sat & Canal+ ready with a card that is valid for 4 years. As far as input goes the only persons to come up with a viable alternative are Honeysuckledream and Chancer who both suggested an LNB bracket for multi satellites. As I stated, I’m looking for ideas and this VDSL seemed like a better alternative but will certainly look at this sugestion. Definition: VDSL was developed to support exceptionally high-bandwidth applications such as High-Definition Television (HDTV). VDSL is not as widely deployed as other forms of DSL service. However, VDSL can achieve data rates up to approximately 51,840 Kbps, making it the fastest available form of DSL. , VDSL relies on fiber optic cabling. VDSL is designed to work more as a business service that uses ATM internetworking rather than as a consumer service that utilizes IP. VDSL supports both voice and data communication on the same line, like other forms of DSL. Also like most DSL technology, the performance of VDSL depends significantly on the physical distance traversed by wires: Shorter distances mean faster networking. The technology was originally named VADSL ('A' for asymmetric), but VDSL has now been improved and can operate in either symmetric and asymmetric modes.
  2. Hi Quillan. Yes it is for use here, and secondly, I'm with Orange and they actually supply these VDSLs, not that I will use one of theirs I shall buy my own from Amazon, they have quite a lot for sale. I did omit to say that, the Humax box comes with Canal Plus ready with a card that is valid for four years. If you do a search then you will find lots of information on these VDSLs.
  3. As I said, I contacted several UK TV installation specialists to ask this very question, after all there is TV on other formats as well as satellites. When discussing the complications of installing a second satellite dish the costs were not acceptable as the quotes that I had received were way over 300-400€. Several of these certainly didn’t scoff but suggested that I did a line test to see if it was a viable option. Ping 24Ms, Download Speed 18.62Mbps, Upload speed 0.88Mbps. with the use of a VDSL which would replace the 10Mbps ADSL with an ultra fast VDSL unit of up to 300Mbps which would enable the watching of TV online. It's all out there, it's just a matter of looking. It took me an awful lot of searching to find out that I could Watch TV via the internet. I can buy a VDSL for less than a 100€ so will settle for that.
  4. As the BEEB no longer has the rights to the MOTO GPs and Channel 4 only shows half an hour from the last race from the world super bikes, I thought that I would switch to French TV. I’m at present using a spare HD TV as a monitor but now I intend to use it as a TV again and purchased a Humax TN7000HD TNTSAT Canal Ready decoder. My intension is to use the internet as a connection to the box. I did speak to a couple of uk companies here but because of the complexity of installing a second dish I was advised to do a line check which came out quite favourably. Ping 24MS, Download Speed, 18.62Mbps. Upload Speed 0.8Mbps. Once this was known I was strongly advised to go down this route, so when everything is connected, would I need to contact Canal to activate the supplied card? Please keep thing simple guys, I'm no Techy by any means. All replies will be appreciated.
  5. In the days of yore when painting plated metals and aluminium the base coat that was used in the motor trade then was an etching primer which was a cyanide based primer. This was banned in the early 2000s with the introduction of water based paints. BUT I purchased an aerosol can in one of the super stores in Bressuire in 2006.
  6. Good grief Norman, how come your batteries are so costly, or are they lithium batteries? Surely you must be able to obtain a battery for half the price that you have been charged. I am however pleased that you have your wheels back though.
  7. For the last few months I have been receiving email supposedly from Orange concerning unpaid factures which is paid by direct Debit, in this email was an orange circle with an envelope at its centre, when I clicked onto it, it opened up a form requesting all my details. Why would they need my details when they already have them, before doing anything I went back through all of my bank statements for the last four years or more and found nothing amiss as all, payments are accounted for. The next thing I did was to respond to this email, for one reason only, to find out if this was bogus or not as I was very suspicious. Within second of sending the email it was returned stating “No domain of this name”. So this is quite obviously a scam email so beware of any emails purporting to be from Orange. I recently purchased Anti – Malware Pro software which was highly rated, from Amazon Fr and it only cost around 30€, so far so good. I also get a lot of spam mail but that goes straight into the junk section for me to delete when the box gets quit full.
  8. I would like to point out that last year our maire has been extensively modified to comply with the new European legislation that comes in very shortly and is now completely disabled access friendly. I believe this comes into effect next year.
  9. It’s a legal requirement to register your vehicle if you are a resident in France and there is a legal limit of 6 months that you are allowed to full fill this requirement. It’s also the same with the insurance from my experience aided by a respected advisor to this forum as Sid and Bugsy and many others can verify (SD). My AXA agent in the Vendee gave me a month’s grace to get my BM into the French system and onto French plates. So MJB you could be dancing on thin ice regarding the insurance. As regards to the stickers, they were supplied with the helmet I bought which was an AGV.
  10. Hi All. I’m planning to extend my kitchen by replacing the external door, which is one of two external front doors which are on the village square, what I intend to do is to replace this old kitchen door with a D/G window perched on a concrete block wall of just over a metre high. What I am trying to find out is what type of permis would I require?
  11. I have just bought a new AGV open face helmet, guess what? it includes a strip of 5 reflective stickers complete with the instructions on where exactly they are to be placed. It also contains the legal notification. Pour une utillisation sur le territoire Français vous devez              OBLIGATOIREMENT. Appliquer sur votre casque les retro refléchissants contenus dans ce sachet. Vous devez les placer dans chaque zone définie dansce schéma.
  12. Earlier this month I received a very spurious e-mail which for all intent and purpose it looked as though it was Orange / France Telecom. That was until I read the contents of the message; it stated that they had made an error and mistakenly debited my bank account twice.  The message then went on to request my bank details in order to refund the oversight but, I thought it strange to include my pin number; this immediately set the alarm bell’s ringing. I took a look at the sender’s address and realised that this was quite possibly a scam e-mail.  I replied to this e-mail informing them that I don’t give out my bank details in an e-mail and requested them to reimburse me with a cheque. This morning I received my bank statement, my account is quite healthy and no double debit, so this was, I believe a scam e-mail.
  13. The only way that I found is on the BBC iplayer.  Commentary on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra, via the BBC iPlayer Radio app, BBC Sport website & BBC Sport app; updates on BBC Radio 5 live; live text commentary on BBC Sport website, app & mobile devices. If that's any help.
  14. I don't wish to sound heartless but,I have a serious inheritance problem that needs to be resolved. My problem is that I have two brothers, one in Australia whom I am in regular contact with while the other in the UK has for the last ten years denied that I exist, is there any legal way that I could possibly disinherit him? He certainly doesn’t need money as he owns two properties in excess of ¾ of a million. I would certainly prefer to give his share of my estate to several charities.
  15. I must point out that this area in question isn’t where the fair is situated, that is in the upper sections of the square which are 4  individual car parks, it’s where their accommodation trailers and caravans are all parked in the lower section where the residential area is. This is where the only access is the road from the island at the top of the hill past the square to the church. There is an access to where the lorry park is situated, which can be used but that is further down the high street, this is also the exit road for two of the 4 car parks at the top of the square. What concerns me and others is, a couple of years ago there was an emergency in the square when an elderly resident required urgent medical treatment, but the ambulance wasn’t able to reach the house in question because these same people were parked willy-nilly all over the square, no orderly parking, they simply park where they want. They don’t seem to give a damn for the residents, because they are permitted to be there. For this reason alone the residents are talking of having more control over the way these people are behaving as there are also complaints over the way they dispose of their waste water which for some reason includes some grease from these trailers and caravans being let to drain across the square and going into the storm drainage system.
  16. At the moment there is access onto the square, the cordon is directly in front of my house, no other houses are affected but mine, blocking off any vehicle access to my house as you turn onto the square. This is the only time of the year when a crime is committed!!!
  17. I live in the town square (Place) and around the perimeter the houses are situated leaving a spacious central area. Every September we have the Randonnée, this is accompanied by a fair which arrives the week prior and completely overrun the square, only this time they have gone too far as they have set up a vehicle cordon around the front of my house by means of a Scania tractor unit, a transit van plus it’s trailer. This blocking off is to save an area for their fellow compatriots who will arrive closer to the coming weekend. This has meant that there is no vehicle access to my property and the only way is on foot. This has to be a contravention of my rights of access? I am now in the middle of drafting a letter to the Maire to complain about this situation and to inform him of what these people are doing, most of the residents are quite feed up with what is being allowed to go on as they are also being blocked in and unable to get their cars in and out. A few years ago an ambulance was called but couldn’t get to a patient and had to cart all their equipment on the strecher to get to the patient, because the square was blocked up by these peoples vehicles. Some thing has to be done as these people are getting completely out of hand.
  18. I thought that a HGV / Tractor units, Prime Mover's, and what ever they are classes as, aren’t permitted to be on the road apart from essential services, milk collection being one of the few that I know of, I’m sure you will enlighten me on this subject??
  19. Ladies, may have a little input into the subject of the exchange rate, as it actually reached the rather dizzy heights of 1.1798 on the morning Wednesday 2nd of March this year.
  20. I Turned monitor off just before lunch time,  I turned it back 10 minutes ago, only to find a white screen that was again buzzing, gradually the colour returned after several minutes but the buzzing has remained, so. I have ordered a new monitor from cdiscount that should arrive in 3-4 days. This monitor wasn't exactly a cheapo, it cost 140€ and it has lasted for 6 years so I reckon that I have had my monies worth, to use the old addage, you get what you pay for so didn't do too badly considering it is some times on for the whole morning. I just hope that this monitor will last for a few more days, until the new one arrives.
  21. Finally! All is now quiet again, it certainly doen't get hot as it has plenty of space around it. It may well have stopped after I spend the morning anticipating a failure, I spent several hours searching for a new monitor, Jay they are even cheaper at cdiscount!!   Lets' just hope that it's now going to behave.
  22. Yesterday morning after turning on my computer I began to hear my monitor making what can only be described as, a buzzing sound, if I turned it off and back on again the noise was still there. Then this morning, when I switched both computer and the monitor on it was completely normal but a few minutes later the buzzing started and a few seconds after the screen went completely white and I could do nothing but turn off the computer and restart it again, it did then start as normal and so far no problems apart from the continual buzzing noise. I am thinking that maybe the monitor is possibly on the way out, am I correct with my assumption?
  23. Well. Thank you, Tinabee.   That advice has certainly gone some way in calming my rage, knowing that I will at least be refunded, eventually.
  24. I have recently received a form from Cardiff for information of what state pension I will shortly be getting, when I officially become an old F*rt. This, I assume will be for taxation purposes but why, when I already have the tax code NT, so as far as I am concerned this should be nothing to do with these people as it will be declared here, so can anyone advise me on this situation? I know full well that if I fill in these forms and return them, these stupid people in Cardiff  will start taxing my pension, as they did the same with my company pension until Nottingham stepped in. HELP!!
  25. I used to do that all the time and even my left hand thigh when I was racing in the 70's.................mind you, I was a sidecar passenger at the time. It certainly is one hell of an angle of lean while drifting at the same time.
