1. Hello Go for it Jura, I too have a young son and therefore felt happier to adopt a young dog not least because they can grow up together, she is beautiful and has fitted in really well, I will definitely do the same again in the future!  Here they are together, in love already after just two months
2.   I'll try my view taken with my new camera this morning, this is the view from the kitchen
3. Would agree with all those who have posted, there is no valid reason to ask for the 3 digit number, it is only used a tthe point of auth payment and that has been done.  I would call the company as if there has been a leak of your details likely there will be many others.
4. If they truly are attempting a truthful program why front it with 2 first time presenters whose experience is 'all singing and all dancing' but not in a good way! I'm sorry (like S17) to be flippant but I'm not holding my breath for a good show, I find the two of them slightly irritating when discussing light issues!
5.   I know people feel strongly on this subject but I lived for 4 years with huge trees occupied by the little blighters, often saw them marching, cut down and burnt nests I could reach etc.etc.  I think you have to take a measured view of this, the number  of cases of problems are very few, dogs would be pretty stupid to try to eat caterpillars and cats I'm sure would not.  The problems arise when they march on the ground of course and you can see them as they are hundreds ususally in a row.  Avoid the trees that are occupied during Feb and March and don't worry so much. forgot to say my dog is stupid and still he was fine.  My take on it, do burn the nests of those low and near your house, but cut down the tree, I would never do that.
6. I've had a thought about this, do you think that women plumbers and the other trades are as bad at not turning up.  I just can't believe that if I rang a woman and said please come and finish, the kids are sat in the bath in the lounge etc. etc. I just don't think they would ignore it like men can. I know that sexist but what do you think?
7.
We waited six years for an electrician to put some lights in the cave. He died before he did the work.
LOL, what a b*st*rd, some people will go to extraordinary lengths to get out of a bit of work won't they!
8. Wow a great dane cat, that is some cat, imagine the poor mice's face when he sees that coming for him!! Mine are cocker spaniel(ish), I say ish as the old dog is a working cocker and so not the frilly kind and the new dog whilst described by phoenix as a cocker I think a bit of poetic licence came in there as every day she looks more like a poodle, wirey curls and all!  I'm quite happy though as she doesn't lose any hair.  She could be poodle cros spaniel I guess, she is very cute and hard to tell off!
9. Hello Not quite sure what yu are asking but, CGT for non french residents is 16% not 26%, so the non resident person will simply pay 16% of any profit at the point of sale, the maison principal resident will not, quite simple really.  If they sell after 15 years neither party will pay any CGT. I have personal experience of selling a house with some parties being resident maison principal some not, the notaire just charges the correct tax sum to the correct party. Panda
10. Well now you mention it I do find myself purring if someone tickles my belly!!
11. Hello Bit of a weird problem and not the first time it's happened to me sooo, think I'm doing something wrong.  My new pup (rescued from phoenix association) has started to act like a cat.  First she would just lie on the window sill in the sun like the cat does, then she started trying to get on the worktops and sometimes succeeded where she would sit and look at you like the cat does.  Next she started peeing and pooing (yuk) next to the cat litter having been clean in the house for some weeks.  This morning she is curled up on the cats bed in front of the fire, the stupid thing is I have placed this on the coffee table as the cat at 18 years old wants a bit of peace! As I said this is not the first time, my old dog now 11 used to do the same kind of things and even now cleans his face by sitting right up and licking his paws and running them across his face, just like the cat does. This is the same cat n both cases, do you think she is convincing them they are cats, the old dog got so cat like he stopped barking and now only does it if really pushed, he chases small birds and has caught a couple. It's all very odd, the old one I can cope with but the new one with poo and work tops involved, yuk! Panda
12. Your hassles might not be sorted but you will be able to dance and sing like never before!!![:D]
13. Interestingly isn't stuff supposed to be much cheaper in IKEA France than the UK, (I've heard quoted 30% on some things) if this is the case, then Normandy would be a better bet!!
14. Aren't David and Carrie Grant the dance and voice experts from Fame Academy, might be me but can't see the link there??
15. Am I the only one who finds this post a bit puzzling, I want to say and.... Personally I find the Bordeaux IKEA much more convenient, this being 'Living France Forum' and it being in France and all....
16.
Hello Dexter  It will always boil down to money at the end of the day, and there are many swings and roundabouts on that subject, we have found that by just the saving we are making in local poll tax( i know its not called that now but I cant keep up with all the names its had [blink]) we can purchase our health insurance.
Pads, do you mean full private health cover for the difference between council tax and tax fonciere in France, surely not??  Most people are quoting upwards of 3k per year.  Perhaps you mean for the top up, that would be 'on average' 1k per year, is that what you are referring to??? On the main point of the post, I would hold off, with the UK market cooling and the Brits in France facing a big change things could be very difficult and there may well be a bargain or three around in 6 months time.
17. Hmm, I was told recently by CPAM that I was still registered with them which is odd as I've been paying to RSI as a self employed person for 3 years.  I assumed (how stupid) that once you register as 'actif' and therefore not using your E106 anymore and changing from paying CPAM to RSI they would talk, I still have the same NI equiv number.   But no, they thought I was affiliated to both and still would if I hadn;t moved no doubt!  So I might get a letter too
18. Hi Yes but in this case the micro has already been set up but not as a professional business, just a side line (does not pay cotisations), if people now want to change this to being a professional business I said I thought you might have to reregister, but perhaps you can ask for the current siret to be registered as professional. That is the crux of the matter, setting up a micro I know all about, I have 3!  And this discussion does not affect me as one of mine is already a full blown cotisation paying type.  The discussion is aimed at thsoe people who in light of the health changes would benefit from having their small sinde line set up as a full business and can then pay into a health scheme. 19.
I live in Dept 60 and the price of water is horrendous. 900 Euros last year, and we don't have a pool or any leaks !! And we get 360 days rain per year, enough to supply the whole of France.
sheez, I thought Georgina's 500 was huge.  How much per cubic metre are you paying and where are you?  It sounds a ridiculous sum.
20. Has anyone doen the above, changed from being a micro that does not pay cotisations (non prof ) to one that does??  I'm intrigued now about the inactif thing.
21. I don't know what's involved in moving from one type of micro to another, you are basically changing from non-professional to professional and I would guess, and it is a guess, that you would have to re register.  If this were the case cotisations would start from the date of registering the new professional business and cover would also commence from that date. I would go and see an accountant, my set up was all carried out by an accountant and I would have been lost without his input.
22. I think what he means is that you can register as a mico for gites (or B&B) but not pay cotisations.  We have this scenario, I work and am profession liberale, we also had gites, these were just given a siret number but no cotisations are paid on this, similarly we have long term let flats, these too have a siret but we do not pay cotisations on these.  As neither the gites or the long term let are our main income they can be registered in this way and lots of people are set up this way, either because they have another profession or they have a good pension.

Fencing

Hello The 1 metre thing is about hedges and trees I think, not an expert but I know that you can't plant trees over a certain size within 1 metre of the boundary.  You are also not supposed to put shed's or the like less than 1 metre form the boundary, fences though are on the boundary AFAIK, in my old house the whole place was fully enclosed and the fences were all erected right on the boundary. Someone more knowledgeable will post soon I'm sure. Panda
