  1. With comments like this from woolybanana we can clearly see why people use other forums, and this forum becomes less and less popular.
  2. New event for your diary, on the 23rd December at 5.30pm till 7.30pm there will be a carol concert in the village of St Leger aux Bois, which is just outside Aumale on the Picardie/Normandie border.   The event is being organised by British residents of the village, the carols will be in English (apart from 'Silent Night' which will be sung in French accompanied by children from the local school).  The readings will be in both French and English, and there will be mince pies and mulled wine afterwards.   The event is free, and the venue is the Salle des Fetes.
  3. Hi Patrick We live in Picardie but on the border of Normandie so not really that close, and yes we are here full time not weekenders and have been for nearly four years, great area to live in.   We met people through French classes, and a few of the events advertised in the French News.    Your area of choice is really lovely, visited many times.  The beaches are great as is the seafood in the nearby restaurants, agree it does get busy in the Summer months, but really beautiful in the Autumn/Spring when a little quieter.   Good luck with the move.
  4. When you get the forms from the prefecture to complete, does anybody know if you then need to employ an offical translator to do the necessary on all the required bits i.e. passport, marriage certifcate etc.   Thanks
  5. Never happened here in the Somme, weather lovely on Friday and apart from a little drizzle on Saturday going into Amiens nothing.  Very pleased as the prediction looked awful.
  6. We live on the Picardie/Normandie border in a colombage Normandie longhouse.  It was originally a thatch but we had it removed as it was very damp and "alive" with insect and bird life.  We had no problems putting on a Welsh slate roof which has really made a difference in terms of insulation.    The house tends to stay cool in the Summer, which can be a godsend, and takes a while to heat up to a comfortable temperature in the Winter, not so good.  Much depends on what type of heating you use.  The house is no more expensive to insure than any other of its size and we have removed the fire risk by taking off the thatch so no penalty there either, and having our chimmney swept by a professional.   The house is a joy to live in, lots of space, very pretty with inglenook fireplaces and large bedrooms.  A lot depends on what you buy, some people have bought huge places in this style and find them difficult to heat and keep clean, others have converted and modernised  inside and would not live anywhere else!   It depends what you want, do you want one ready to live in or do you want one you can renovate to your own taste?  This type of house is very desirable and there are not as many as there used to be on the market at the moment. I should look at as many as possible before deciding.
  7. Only place I have ever seen them was in Dieppe.  Did not manage to get there in time this year so just used some from the local market, not quite the same but very nice.
  8. Not brilliant here in Picardie either, lost a few tiles from the shed roof, found the garden bench - eventually.  The outlook for tomorrow is not wonderful, but perhaps a little less wind, keeping our fingers crossed.
  9. Thanks all the for the help.  The email problem has just sorted itself!!!!  We swapped our roamer phone for the old corded phone downstairs and voila all is well with the phone system now - hurrah.  The only problem is with all our mucking around we lost some of our cookies and automatic links to things like this forum so we have re-joined so annie1 is now vin rouge.   Again many thanks
