  1. I'm south of you Ernie and an 85cm dish would not work and the OP is even further south.
  2. LV gives 6 months and there is nothing in their T&Cs about only 31 days at a time.
  3. Oh, plus if it is going on a car roof rack then there will be an overhang. Also, look on the Internet for French supplied ones - might be easier than being strapped on the roof. Obviously, if you have a large van then that is different.
  4. Think the main advice is 'the bigger the better' though do compare specifications - gain etc. As for LNB possibly best to go for one with a name as opposed to one on eBay from China.
  5. My experience in the early 80s of being a visitng Englishman in North Wales is such that I will not and have not visited North Wales since. So much for an area that relies on tourism for their economy. Experienced less in Scotland but it was extremely blatant in a restaurant in Sutherland that I once visited. Nice that a service industry is doing so well that it can alienate people from another part of the UK. Perhaps Hadrian had the right idea.
  6. Would have thought they would have just rerouted the pipe going to the fosse to the main drain. The old system being left in place - after all, why dig it up which would cost for no real gain. Any rubbish, chuck it in the old fosse saves carting it away.
  7. Quote PaulT: SNP has 56 seats with 1,454,436 votes LD has 8 seats with 2,415,888 votes UKIP has 1 seat with 3,881,129 Plaid Cymru has 3 seats with 181,694 votes - yes one hundred and eighty one thousand and six hundred and ninety four votes gives them 3 seats. Quote Thiebault Surely this is just a function of vote distribution. The SNP votes were restricted to the 59 seats in Scotland, PC was restricted to Wales, whereas Ukip and the Greens were spread all over England, Wales and Scotland. End quotes If you do a little bit of maths then the following votes got each seat: SNP 25,972 LD 301,986 UKIP 3,881,129 Plaid Cymru 60,564 Yes, a function of first past the post. In addition, apathy with people not voting. I suppose the two largest parties are Conservative and Labour. Now, supporters of these parties will not want Proportional Representation because their parties will never again get at least 326 votes to govern without forming a coalition. With PC all citizens will get representation but when the majority are Conservatives or Labour it will never happen.

    Dog having fits

Sorry to hear about your dog. Humans have fits and they lead a normal life so your dog should be able too. Just don't let the dog drive.
  9. To add to Pickles post: SNP has 56 seats with 1,454,436 votes LD has 8 seats with 2,415,888 votes UKIP has 1 seat with 3,881,129 Plaid Cymru has 3 seats with 181,694 votes - yes one hundred and eighty one thousand and six hundred and ninety four votes gives them 3 seats.
  10. No Rabbie those voting SNP were only interested in Scotland, not the UK. Earlier in the run up the SNP were crowing that they would turn Millibean in to a puppet and the money paid in Mansion Tax where the majority would be raised in London would go to Scotland. All Sturgeon went on about was Millibean giving all the goodies to Scotland, no mention of the rest of the Union.
  11. Why should SNP have power and influence - I voted in the UK (United Kingdom) election not the Scottish election. Such a shame it was not a 'YES' vote. They could now be having fun working out how to cope with low oil prices.
  12. Flower, do not hold your breath hoping to get a reply - none who originally replied have been on this forum for years. The resurrection of old threads though does bring up memories of people who no longer post.
  13. From the BBC News: 'Also on Sunday, the United Nations said that the problem of customs controls holding up aid deliveries from the airport was "diminishing".' So the Nepalese authorities are delaying aid getting through due to customs control!!!!!!!!! Totally and utterly amazing.
  14. I would not consider them scare tactics, just part of the T&Cs which you tick a box when booking to say you have read and agree with them. It would not be a case of not enforcing them - the person booking has agreed to the additional charge and should expect to be charged.
  15. Chancer, let's put it this way, if it was my company then I would be doing this - nice and easy to do.
  16. Would have thought it would need no human intervention to charge. If the ANPR camera does not detect your car within the time frame the system automatically debits your card.
  17. How about something like this, assuming you have a window overlooking the 'dump' site: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-HD-Car-Vehicle-Dash-Dashboard-Camera-IR-DVR-Cam-CCTV-Night-Vision-Recorder-/311215800625?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4875e84131 You will obviously need a 12v power source available quite cheaply. This will give you pictures to show the accused.
  18. You only need 1 person to like your house to sell it. As to removing pictures etc, it depends on whether viewers can see the potential. My OH cannot see potential but I can so I describe what could be done after a viewing. Get all viewers not able to see potential and you then need to have a house exactly what they want. Perhaps better to present a blank canvas. Loiseau as for descriptions, one house we viewed stated 'view of the Pyrenees'. Could not see it so queried it with the agent. We went to the top of the house, I stood on a chair and looked out of the roof light and there was the view - shame they did not speify what could be seen with a very powerful telescope.
  19. Mac surely plenty of cows in the fields :)
  20. Another computer system to handle the online queries. Just read that the system so that people in the UK can register to vote (note not to actually vote) has cost £100M - how the hell did it cost so much. always amazes me how companies take on these projects, screw them up and walk away normally with a big fat cheque........during my time in the NHS I have seen some almighty cock-ups on IT systems that have cost a fortune but do not work. Just brush it under the carpet.
  21. I always find when reading reviews that I need to consider all the reviews and apply sensible filters. For instance, do not apply the same criteria to a two star hotel as you would to a five star hotel. A few years ago we booked a cheap weeks stay in a Spanish hotel. Some of the reviews were awful but others good. Some of the moans were about the food. Applying the sensible filter we booked. At the end of the week we were glad to leave because of the food. They put out breakfast, then food for mid morning, then lunch, then mid afternoon and then dinner. It was absolutely delicious so we used to avail ourselves of all. Came away absolutely stuffed. On the basis that my OH is very fussy about food presume those that did not like it was because there were not burgers and chips each time. There has been some adverse publicity about the booking companies. I do prefer to book direct - obviously, if the price is the same, I lose nothing and the establishment does not have to pay commission.
  22. What are others thought of contacting an English speaking Notaire in the area? When we bought our Notaire was very friendly and subsequently when making Wills. Things could be done by post and phone and also tie in a visit to have a valuation carried out (mmmm) and sign anything that needed signing.
  23. A friend has taken his car to have new tyres fitted but there is a problem with one of the locking bolts. The garage has quoted him 2 hours labour / 150 euros to remove the bolt. In the UK you can buy this type of socket: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCARFELL-7-PIECE-LOCKING-WHEEL-NUT-REMOVAL-REMOVER-TOOL-SOCKET-SET-NEW-/370569895076 which act on the outside of the bolt. I presume these are available in France, if so best type of place to buy them and what are they called?
  24. Had an email from a friend in France at the weekend and amongst other things told me that a friend of his in France had just been given days to live. Had an email yesterday to say he died on Sunday and was cremated on Monday, i.e. next day. A subsequent email told me that as the condition had been diagnosed there was no need for a post mortem and as cremation is extremely unpopular in France there is no waiting list. Gives a new meaning to 'here today gone tomorrow'.
  25. Just wondering - not that I would....... we always travel in the early hours with Eurotunnel. No checks on the dog, wonder how many people do not book the dog from UK to France.
