1. This is the reason I dont own a gun. If I did own a gun, you would be hearing about me on tonights news headlines, having shot the shit out of a DIY shop. Yes, rosace is the correct term it would seem, so armed with my newfound knowledge I hit Bricodepot to buy two and a few other bits n bobs. I got the chimney pipe from them but never saw these things there previously....perhaps no stock? perhaps stocked elsewhere in the shop? anyway, at the chimney section there they were - I didnt even have to use my new word to ask where they were. Everything arranged by size..... I used 150mm tube for the installations so grabbed two 150mm rosaces. Simple? theoretically, yes - simple. 40 minutes drive home, then another 15 minutes drive to where I was working and I found the problem. The internal diamter of the hole in the rosace is 150mm - that makes sense. However the external diameter of the chimeny tubes is 153mm. FUCKING USELESS BUNCH OF WANKERS - WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT OF SELLING THESE IF THEY DONT FIT THE FUCKING TUBES YOU SELL?
2. ...the pretty metal collar you put around a chimney tube to cover the hole where it passes through a wall?
3. The land wasnt yours and has been sold to someone else? Sounds like tough titty, I am afraid. Speak to your mayors and the lawyers used for the sale - they are the only people who can help you.
4. Outstanding suggestions, thanks. Cyberghost is now doing the job nicely. Until they inevitably start asking for money, at least.
5. "Zenmate will never ask you for money for this service" they said. "oh, you want to continue to use the UK proxy? well, you will need to buy a subscription." they now say. Any other suggestions for a free UK proxy?
6. DO NOT tell the bank what you are planning! You will be admitting to breaching their terms and conditions and while I am sure the smiley face at the bank will brush it off as no big deal, I am equally sure that they will use this breach to drag you over the coals if they decide to in the future.
7. I am assuming this is the stuff you put dry into a hole around a post and add water? If so, Brico Depot sell it, but I dont know what brand they carry. EDIT  = VPI Speed Beton.... http://www.bricodepot.fr/castres/speed-beton-25-kg*/prod32379/
8. Not really, no. "courroie de transmisson" is just a drive belt - could be the timing belt, could be the alternator belt or any other kind of drive belt. "courroie de distribution" is specifically the timing belt. If you want an accurate quote from a garage, be specific.
9. courroie de distribution. Make sure the job includes the tensioner and idler rollers - call it a kit de distribution. Also consider the water pump while its in bits...pompe a eau. Access is awkward on a Scenic - its a crapper of a job I dont like doing but most French garages will have done so many of them previously its not a big deal for them.
10. The prefecture dont ask for it. Its kind of like an HPI report to prove to a buyer that there is no problems with the cars history (finance / destruction order) and serves no real administrative purpose. If you want one use this link.... https://siv.interieur.gouv.fr/map-usg-ui/do/accueil_certificat click on Commencer, in the bottom right.
11.
Where do you get your information?
12 years of banger racing. It is nothing to do with cost an everything to do with keeping forward motion no matter what.
BUT modern alloys do not shatter...
They kinda do actually. You will never see a steel wheel do that, and when a steel wheel does get badly damaged... you can still drive on it, knowing that it is not going to shatter. Dave - Driving on broken wheels for fun since the 90`s. [:P]
12. Chancer is spot-on about the steel wheels - they are much more durable at the extreme end of use. For example, a Banger racer would never use alloys if they can avoid it, simply because if a steel wheel takes a big hit it will buckle or deform but still "work" even if the tyre is deflated where an alloy will just shatter into bits and be useless.
13. Still seeing these.....every single time I head south, always between StPons and over the high pass towards St Chinian, mostly on the southern side of the pass.....each time I go I will normally see at least 1 convoy, sometimes more. Today I saw two different lots... What are they...I dont even.... All modern cars look the same to me.... Then while stuck at roadworks 4 Audis ripped past, all grubby, running steel wheels with no trims. The pics dont show it but they all had some large device suction-cupped to the windscreen (way bigger than a GPS)     spooky[:P]
14. The garage are taking the piss. Even without the removal tool, any decent garage should have the bolt off in minutes. I had to get 4 off my C2 a while back, and modern PSA ones are designed to shear off the head if tampered with, leaving just a flat face. Even in this case its a couple of minutes work to weld an old nut onto it and remove with a normal spanner.
15. I was born in 78, but thats coincidental.
16. It aint my birthday - I just made a half-circle round the numerical keypad when choosing a username! I didnt laugh at it as such.....just disregarded it![:P] mainly because its a large chateau and takes literally days for the heating to start warming up.
17. Replacement windscreen for a Ford Escort. carglass in France - 860 euros. autoglass in UK (the same bloody company) - £288. Thats beyond "market differences", its purely a pants down, unlubricated shafting. In fact, its outright fecking theft.
18. I just wobbed it down with sikaflex in the end. Job jobbed and ready for jobbies. Thanks to Theiere for the suggestion.
19. HA! I can just see the line on the bill now...."watching the floor dry - 1 hour labour" Cant say I have ever noticed the lines on the floors when they are damp before, but then I have never looked for it.... The floor is tiled.....gluing it down is a good idea though, I will have a look at that, if not I will make up offset bolts.....Im never lucky enough to win at pot-luck. Thanks.
20. Its a sad truth, but yes...the legal side could take years, possibly even decades to be resolved and will involve massive upfront costs that your friend has absolutely no guarantee of getting back, even if he were to "win" in some cases. Not housing obviously, but a friend went to court over bodged car repairs done by the local "mechanic" who afterwards went bust. It took well over 2 years to resolve that relatively simple case and despite winning she was still very much out of pocket and had been forced to buy a new car in the interim as hers couldnt be repaired until various experts took their sweet time inspecting it. With hindsight she says she should have taken the repairs on the chin and not bothered with the courts.
21. A client needs their toilet changed, which would be simple enough but the bathroom has under-floor heating (pipes rather than electic mat) and obviously the new bog mounting holes dont line up with the old ones. Its only about an inch either side.......Is it just lucky dip or is there anything I can do to minimise the risk of problems? The alternative I have just thought of right now is to make up some offset bolts.....weld some lengths of flat steel onto the screw heads that go into the original holes and weld studs sticking upwards that will go through the new bog mounting holes and screw it down with washers and chrome capped nuts......that seems workable?
22. CA lumbered me with a Maestro card when I first opened the account and it was hopeless. I had incessant problems with many online transactions and a feeble weekly rolling limit of about €500 iirc. I sacked it off and got a Mastercard instead. Which costs ME more money, but hey....welcome to France. [:@]
23. For reasons beyond the understanding of us normal folk, manufacturers have somehow decided that rock hard seats are best. Apparently it gives an impression of quality? This started with VAG cars (VW, Audi etc) and has spread to most other manufacturers now as they try to imitate the "quality" feel VW are supposed to have inside. IMO the best seats and seating positions are found in Volvo cars - They were very much into proper ergonomics decades ago when many other manufacturers had never heard of the word.
24. Very true Furrybananas, during a strike the main stations are actually pretty good, but the rest of the time they can get bent.
25. That would be for the best - French radio makes me want to swerve into oncoming traffic.
