1. Oh id, thanks for coming back.  Didn't like the gap of your absence[:)]
2. I thought he deserves his own thread.  So, does he inspire confidence and can persuade people to get vaccinated? https://www.sudouest.fr/2020/12/04/alain-fischer-un-monsieur-vaccin-rode-au-dialogue-avec-la-societe-civile-8150718-11265.php  It's good, in my opinion, to have someone competent to be charged with this massive programme.  A specific individual where the buck stops.
3. Betise, thank goodness you are here to back up my understanding of this subject.  Thought I was going senile, hearing and reading things that were not actual[:-))] Yes, I too am waiting for 15 dec to see what changes will apply. Macron is due to speak but I think that might just be on the subject of the death of Giscard d'Estaing.
4. Sublime and I could imagine myself in the audience in that concertgebouw.  Just what I needed this evening, calming and soothing for the soul[:)]
5. Norman, I DIDN't get my info from any English language publication.  I think I heard it on tv, probably BFM tv as it is rolling news and quick fire with "breaking news" I didn't note the source because I had and have no plans to travel anywhere further than 20 kms.  I did go to the next department for a walk but it was only just across the border and takes less than 20 minutes by car. OH has prepared a dinky little chart with the scale of 1cm to 1.5 km on a horizontal axis, and marked off on this line all the different places we like going to.  He took accurate measurements from a large scale map to prepare the chart and it's much easier to refer to it than to get out a map and look at it each time.  I know someone's provided an interactive map on which you can be shown the areas included in a circle showing your 20 km.  I didn't think the map of any use to us because only the biggest towns are named and shown; really not enough detail.
6. Ceejay, not inter-departmental but inter-regional[:)]

I know Amazon is not flavour of the month but have you tried looking there?  I had a quick look and there seems to be lots of different types and sizes.

No need to form an orderly queue, in fact probably no queues at all! https://www.sudouest.fr/2020/11/29/coronavirus-59-des-francais-ne-comptent-pas-se-faire-vacciner-8131431-10861.php
9. I am not ashamed to admit it, I use Amazon regularly. Where we live, it's difficult to find a variety of goods.  A good pair of trainers, maybe; but a good pair of leather boots?  You'd look long and hard and the 1 or 2 shoe or sports shops wouldn't have your size or the style you want.  Ditto for sports bras, sports leggings plus I wouldn't be seen dead in the ones in the shops. Even some épicerie items, take roobois tea bags, occasionally in LeClerc or Intermarché if you're lucky.  A case also of when they're gone, they're gone and don't even bother asking customer services if they have any idea when they might be in stock.  You know before you ask, either a straightforward no or they don't know the answer to that. To be sure of getting Cheddar cheese, we would need to go to Périgueux (about 40 km and OH is nervous of the heavy traffic) or there's a Super U just over 20 kms. Worse in the Charente Maritime where our previous house was:  in the winter, the one and only supermarket closed between 12.30 and 4.00 in the afternoon. What I say is, thank heavens for Amazon.  Serves us well who do not live anywhere near half decent shops.

11. What I am unsure about is whether you can go 20 km and do your 3 hours with other people? I can't see where it says that you can meet up with someone else from another household in order to exercise together? I did my usual toute seule walk of 1 hour and rejoiced that this would be the last time in the foreseeable future when I shall be obliged to stick to this particular rule. Going to wax my new boots and try them out tomorrow[:D]
12. Magnificent singing, both clips.  I knew you had posted these and I rushed home from my walk and  and threw myself into leaf-raking to finish both activities in record time so that I could sit down and enjoy them![:D] Many thanks.
13. Yes, but in the main, they work OK.  At least, I am perfectly satisfied with it.
14. Ours came today (CdS and not Christmas boxes) and no, Wooly, no rugby players or Chippendales but one rather weedy facteur.  I am pleased as punch and would raise a glass except I have given up drinking. But I wish bonne réception to everybody who has applied[:)]
15. betise, after posting the site, I went on to viamichelin to look at the route and the distance.  Not far for us at all at just over 100 km. But I was very amused to read a red notice on viamichelin which said don't forget you can only go 20 km![:D] No button for comments or I would have said I wasn't thinking of going straightaway, only when the confinement is over and the weather is warmer.  But I did love the detail, someone is taking notice!!

Oh pip, how sad......so sorry to hear that, just terrible.
17. I was watching the tv this afternoon and a wonderful programme on the gardens of Marqueyssac came on.  I am attaching a link to the site.  I couldn't imagine a garden completely given over to buis, given the disease that have ravaged this plant.  Everything looks incredible and the sight of the paths made me wish it was nearer to where I live but I will go at the first opportunity. https://www.perigord.com/listings/sites-touristiques-visites/jardins-de-marqueyssac/ PS Don't forget to watch the video[:)]
18. Yes, Loiseau, the same proportions[:)] Whenever French friends have eaten my sponge, they invariably tell me it's a génoise.  Now, thanks to you, I know it's a quarts- quart.  And I thought that was what they called a 4 x 4 car[:-))]
19. Agree totally with what you have said, Catalpa.  I have looked at the map and 20 km in the context of this vast country is actually zilch. Unlike chez Lori, the gendarmes are swarming everywhere and you can see them on all the roundabouts leading into Ribérac.  They are there at different times so that's all to the good. Where I walk near our village, I am passed by a few cars and maybe a jogger and a cyclist on fine days.  Otherwise, I get all of the hills and fields to myself.  I keep to the rules, however, on the basis that, if we all make exceptions for ourselves here and there, then in no time at all, we'll all be spread around everywhere and so would the virus.
20. Loiseau and Sue, I was taught that the proportions were 4, 4, 4 and 2(eggs) or 6,6,6 and 3 or 8,8 and so on. I have seen some dinky little sandwich tins holding 2,2,2 and 1.  If I knew I could stop at just the one bite of cake, I'd get some of these.  They look really cute!  Saw them on Lakeland.
21.
The confinement has inspired lots of jokes,  A good selection here: https://www.parc-attraction-loisirs.fr/autres-parcs-attractions/humour-coronavirus/[:)]
Weegie, I have enjoyed your link, thank you[:D]

I have mulled this over and have decided that, if offered, I will ACCEPT!  Because I really want to go back to nordic walking with my friends and to pilates class.  Not a lot of joy from walking just a short distance from my village and doing pilates alone.  It was all getting very samey.
23. Did you hear Macron's address tonight? Yippeee.......exercise for 3 hours and be 20 km from your home[:D][:D][:D]
24. Apparently the queen has a victoria sponge at her tea table everyday.  And it could be the Queen Victoria also had it and thus the name.  But my knowledge of the British monarchy cannot be relied on.  As ausadrets has mentioned, use Delia Smith's recipe.  Or try Mary Berry's.  Here you are, Lori: https://thegreatbritishbakeoff.co.uk/recipes/all/mary-berry-victoria-sponge/ If you don't want such a large cake, you can use 6 oz each of butter, sugar and flour and 3 eggs but use a smaller tin, 18 cm. Or the same proportions for an even smaller cake, 4 oz of the first 3 ingredients and 2 eggs.  For this one, I would use 6 inch tins. PS sorry to be using different units of measure.  Just that I have been making this cake before metriculation and that was how I used to do it! As an American, you might prefer to measure in cupfuls but use the same proportions of ingredients to eggs and adjust size of tins[:)]
