  1. HOW EASY IS  IT ?  GO  SEE YOUR MAYOR IF YOU ARE BUILDING IN FRANCE AND ASK !!!!!!!! HE WILL TELL YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO DO FIRST.   ALL POOLS IN FRANCE ARE SUBJET TO MANDATORY SAFETY MEASURES - FENCE - ALARM - ENCLOSURE - CHECK IT OUT  AND GET IT RIGHT, OR PAY A BIG BIG FINE.  THAT GOES FOR NEW OR EXISITING POOLS.   DIY BLOCK & LINER SWIMMING POOLS.   HOW EASY IS IT ? - WITH  THE DIY BOOK, VIDEO  AND A LITTLE HELP FROM A LOCAL  BRICK LAYER AND OR PLASTERER - VERY !!!   CHOOSE THE BEST POSITION - PREFERABLY  FOR  SUN  ALL  DAY - EXCAVATE HOLE.   SET OUT & POSITION MAIN DRAINS.   SET CONCRETE  STRIP FOOTING TO PERIMETER -  ALL BASIC MATERIALS PURCHASED   LOCAL TO SITE.   BUILD  POOL WALL OFF CONCRETE  FOOTING,  BUILDING IN - INLET SPREADERS, SURFACE SKIMMER / S, VACUUM POINT AND UNDERWATER LIGHT/S.   RENDER WALLS, LAY SCREED (NOT CONCRETE)  IN FLOOR (TO ALLOW GROUND WATER TO SOAK  AWAY- IF ANY.)   FIT LINER LOCK TO PERIMETER.  NOW MEASURE AND ORDER LINER - THIS WAY IT CAN BE MADE TO  FIT , RATHER THAN HOPING IT WILL.   WHILE YOU ARE WAITING FOR YOUR LINER ---------   PLUMB IN PIPES  BACK TO PLANTROOM ( VERY EASY ALL GLUED FITTINGS) AND CABLE FOR U/W LIGHT/S. PLANTROOM CAN BE AN EXISTING OUTBUILDING OR A SMALL SHED. THE CLOSER TO THE POOL THE BETTER - PIPE RUNS, FRICTIONAL LOSS ETC.   BACKFILL GROUND.   CAST RING BEAM TO TOP OF POOL PERIMETER.   PLUMB IN FILTER & PUMP ( AND  HEATER - GAS OIL OR ELECTRIC) HEAT PUMP IS EASY TO INSTALL  AND CHEAP TO RUN FOR 26 WEEK SEASON.   FIT LINER - ADD WATER.   FIX COPING STONES, LAY PAVING.   MANY CLIENTS IN CERTAIN AREAS OF FRANCE DO NOT NEED ANY HEATING MOST OF  SEASON.   A THERMAL COVER AND ROLLER ARE A  VERY GOOD INVESTMENT. THERMAL COVERS ARE NOT SAFETY COVERS !   USE A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN FOR SUPPLY TO PLANTROOM AND WIRING IN PLANT.   1000'S OF DIY INSTALLATIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED USING THIS BLOCK AND LINER SYSTEM.   Regards   Calvados   .
  2. A chlorine test may show no chlorine, if the amount added is exsessive. This will cause the DPD1 tablet to bleach out. Only put about 1 cm of water in the tube, add the DPD1 tablet and look for a pink colour change, if and as you fill the tube with more pool water, the test goes clear, you know it is bleaching out. You may need to use a floculent to clear the water. Take a look at www.bioguard.co.uk there is some usefull advice on there.   Regards Calvados
  3. A sinking pool would not be acceptable to me or by the UK pool association SPATA.   Was your pool company a member of an association or a registered pool installer ?   I would seriously get someone to read your paperwork and act fast - don't hang about.
  4. Check out Bayroklar Duo Tab  - Chlorine and Bromine free sanitiser. Ideal for indoor domestic pools  NOT for commercial pools - at least in UK. You mention a gentle slope - Transition from shallow to deep. For diving FROM THE POOL END / SIDE a minimum of 2M of water is required in UK and a minimum area - The cage of safety. Check out French regulations - Deep end length may need extending  for cage of safety. 2 minimum main drains on common tee mandatory in UK. Many people are going for a constant depth of 1.2 m and NO DIVING. Regards Calvados         Regards Calvados
  5. Many thanks to all of you for your prompt and hepful replies. Point taken on opening new thread. Have I got this right - any digital box from any French store will tune me in to UK channels - No need to bring over a UK box. A French ami has given us a dish and box, but all I can find in English is CNN, am I pointing at the wrong satellite - only messed manually, somewhere east of south. Regards Calvados
  6. I have just registered on this site, having found it while searching for installation instructions on electric chauffe- eau. Any lead towards such inf. will still be appreciated. However, you all seem to know lots about the various satellite options, so where do I start with recieving UK TV in France please. Bare in mind that I only have the 5 channels in UK, have never had a dish, card or cable TV. We have not bothered with TV in France, but having just stayed out here for almost a month, found it would be good to keep up on news and current affairs at least. Regards Calvados
