  1. Thanks Chezshells for the reply, it does however confuse me. On the website it says "freebox only" means you "economisez l'abonnement FT" which I read to mean you stop the FT line rental.  It also says that on Freebox non dédgroupé you keep the FT line. This contradicts what you say however. I am fairly sure I need to go for the freebox only option, but am still unsure what this means: Portabilité du numéro géographique incluse pour continuer à recevoir sur votre ligne Freebox les appels vers votre ancien numéro So am I right in saying that on the freebox only option , you pay nowt to FT but still receive calls made to the FT number? Also does anyone know what kind of new number I would receive; ie which area code? Many thks
  2. Hallo, I have studied the free.fr website for hours, read previous posts and one thing is sure, it's not the easiest thing for a technophobe like me to understand. Please can someone help me by confirming whether or not I have understood the set up as follows. 1. The house has had no phone for a few years so I phoned France Telecom and had it connected for phone only. It works. 2. When I enter my no in the dégrouptest website it says IP ADSL 512 is possible and on entering the tel no on the free.fr website it says "Vous bénéficiez d'une des offres proposées ci dessous Freebox (adsl non dégroupé) 608 kbps" and the choice is Freebox non dégroupé Vous conservez l'abonnement France Télécom • En zone non dégroupée, débit jusqu'à 10 Mbit/s en réception et 1 Mbit/s en émission • Service Téléphonie OR Freebox Only Economisez l'abonnement France Télécom • En zone non dégroupée, débit jusqu'à 10 Mbit/s en réception et 1 Mbit/s en émission • Service Téléphonie • Portabilité du numéro géographique incluse pour continuer à recevoir sur votre ligne Freebox les appels vers votre ancien numéro -Am I correct in my understanding that if I go for the second option I will no longer have to pay any line rental or calls to France Telecom, -and that I will receive a new telephone no from Free.fr? -Will the telephone no have the regional code? -I also understand that the Freebox will allow telephones routed through it to make unlimited calls free of charge (excluding certain no's) but what I am unclear about is what happens if a call is made from a phone which is not routed through the Freebox. -Bearing in mind that I have not given the existing France Telecom no to anyone, is there any reason why it would be advantageous to keep the FT line rental (I have no heating or alarms which use the telephone line)? -Please can someone point out anything I have missed which lets me get the 29.99 package without having to keep using FT and allowing me the international calls. -On my current set up I connect two computers via a wifi connection which has another wifi connection "bridging off it" . I did not set this up so may not have described it that well. This obviously connects to the socket using a uk phone socket. Will it work with the freebox by simply buying a uk to french telephone adaptor and plugging my existing wifi kit into the Freebox? Thanks in advance, sorry for such a long post. Mulsanne
  3. Thanks to both of you. As I will need to get a CT done anyway, I might as well register them for a normal CG as it then allows me to drive them out of France (Thks Sunday Driver). One is a lhd 1967 Austin Healey 3000, the other a  rhd 1960 MGA roadster 1600. I've looked on the FFVE site now and it looks very informative. Thanks v much
  4. Morning, Has anyone had any experience of putting classic cars through the CT? I am moving to 49 and am choosing to register the cars with normal Carte Grise rather than the collection variety, as I intend to drive them beyond the neighbouring Départements. I lived in Germany before and went through the TUV and that was a fairly traumatic experience. Both cars are regular MOT passers, but just wondering how kind testers tend to be. Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks very much for this reply. I am not sure if I will be buying from a private seller or a dealer, however the car would be used and 2-3 years old 30-50k km. In the event that I go to Belgium with a shortlist of cars to see, unsure which one I will choose, how can I arrange the French import carte grise? I guess I could trailer it back in this event? Thanks.
  6. Hi, has anyone had any experience importing a car from Belgium or maybe Germany? It seems that there is a big difference in price between similar cars in France and either of these two countries. I have read the post about importing a car from the Uk. Is the process the same , and does it matter that you would have only owned the belgian car for a few days? I would appreciate any input from anyone who has looked into this or has done it. Thanks
  7. Well she didn't listen to me and yes she sailed right through! Say's she'll do the rabies jab in France.
  8. Thanks very much for the advice. I have since spoken to her and think she may now be convinced! When I mentioned that les douaniers could terminate her pooch, she sat up and listened!
  9. Hello, My mother has a puppy which will be three months old shortly. She has sold up here and intends to travel to France to live there. She is not intending to bring her dog back. She has had it microchipped, has a certificate of good health, BUT, reckons she will be able to take it to France with no pet passport and  no rabies injection . She says that as it is a one way export from a country with no rabies, that she will be ok. Has anyone heard of people doing this, and is she likely to be able to do it? She certainly won't listen to me, but there's a small chance she'll listen to comments here. Equally there may be people who have done this. Please help!!
  10. ??? which bit was insulting?  Did I miss a post which was deleted?
  11. Abs, the Euro11,000 was for retiling with some woodwork repairs but overall the roof was pretty straight. No insulation, simple tiled roof with new tiles and zinc guttering and downpipes. Good luck
  12. I would get a devis from a roofer as this is going to be the major cost. They may be reluctant to re use the tiles and the price will depend a lot on whether the roof is straight.I think the price of Euros 1000 per  m2 is for a total ground up restoration which you are obviously not looking at. A friend of mine paid Euro 11000 for a new roof with new tiles on a building which was 8m x 5m.
  13. Thanks for the reply; I have sent you an email. Has anyone else near Angers had any recent experiences building pools. Thanks
  14. Morning All, Please could anyone help with advice re. the folllowing. First post so here goes! We are looking to have a pool built  in 49 which will be sandwiched between two outbuildings. We are looking to put up a building over the pool with the knowledge that this will need dehumidifying etc. I anticipate a steel or timber frame incorporated into the surrounding buildings with a part slated part glazed roof with the possibility of solar heating panels on the south facing roof side. I am thinking of 5x8 m with a 2 m deep end and a 1.3 m shallow end and a gentle slope between the two. I have searched the posts but would like to see what you think on costs for a non liner pool and all the associated filtering. If anyone knows any reccomended people in 49. I will be looking for one company to part build the pool and then another to do the building and then the pool guys to come back. I have some people in mind for the building but have not had any pool quotes or building quotes yet. Any help would be appreciated especially on filtration and heating. I speak french, have spoken to the Maire and will be putting in for a Permis de Travaux. At this stage I would really appreciate any views on steel vs aluminium vs wood as a building structure, makes and models of dehumidifyers and how big one needs to be for a certain m3 of air. Also specific pool equipment and chemical which would suit a pool subject to initial family use with occasional periods of heavy use. ie holidays. Also solar heating and whether or not it can be boosted by a modern oil boiler which we have spare but is very modern. Sorry if I waffle! Writing as I think. Any help will be appreciated and in return I will share the inevitable trials and tribulations of this project. Mulsanne
