  1. Chris Thanks for the note re the cherry tree, it looks pretty healthy apart from the nibbled leaves, just being an over cautious mother. [:)] RE the beets, as I said there is part of the beet standing proud of the soil, should I just leave it there and continue growing it, or should the soil be mounded up to cover it. Many thanks Dotty
  2. Tresco What is the other forum you all use?
  3. Sorry can't reply, might go off topic!
  4. oooooohh, sounds like a job for one of my boys, they will love going out in the dark, with a torch, on a bug hunt. Could it be ants? Can replanted fruit trees lay dorment for a while, or can they sometimes just never take to the spot they are put in and die? Well, going completely off topic, please don't report me Mrs off topic policewoman, I have beetroots coming up and potatoes.  One of my beetroots has a shoulder coming out of the soil by about 1/4 of an inch.  When will I know when its ready to dig up, Mrs police gardener?[:D]
  5. Yes bring the Irish fella over with you, we can all take a good look at my failed trees. Those tabs the soldiers were smoking, are you sure they weren't a bit suspect and you were up wind of them?
  6. Thank you for the prompt reply. I woulday about 20% of the leaves on the cherry tree have been nibbled at.  I will take a better guess atthat tomorrow, after I've taken another look.  Its wierd, because most ofthe leaves that have been nibbled, seem to have holes in the middle and not round the edges, a bit like a caterpillar hole. The nectarine tree has no leaves, nothing.  It has very small tight buds, that look just as they did when we bought it.  Just as the cherry did.
  7. Tresco Whilst reading your post, I was expecting you to say, 'and then I woke up'.  Sorry
  8. Hello Dick Happy belated brthday.[:)] I quite fancy the idea of a telescope, the sky is absolutley fab here in dept 79.  Last summer the kids and I spent hours siting in the dark, laying back in our chairs, watching the shooting stars and seeing the milky way.  Prior to moving here we lived by Gatwick airport, where as you said, never gets completely dark. Oh I'm quite jealous, I'm definately going to look into getting one.
  9. Hello to all you gardening experts, I'm hoping you can help.  I planted two fruit trees, one a nectarine and a cherry, earlier this year.  I bought them from the supermarket.  I followed the instructions replanting them, however, the cherry has blossomed and now has leaves, but the nectarine hasn't done anything since we bought it. Have we bought a duff tree? Futher to that the cherry tree leaves look as though something has ben eating them.  I've had a look under the leaves, but have found nothing, apart from one ant.  Are ants likely to eat leaves?  Sorry for the dumb questions, its just I'm such a novice at this gardening lark. Many thanks Dotty
  10. Oh cool, thanks for the info, my kids will just love that.  Any ideas to the start time or is it an all day event?
  11. I like the new you Twinkle.  Have you checked your PMs recently?
  12. Katie I'm so sorry, my heart goes out to you.  A big HUG Dotty
  13. Furry Knickers Don't know what you are on tonight or any other come to think of it, but  think we could all do with some at the moment. Your posts always make me laugh, you are very funny, a pleasure to read. Dotty
  14. Glad to see you posting Katie, did you get my pm?
  15. Oh right.  Now let me check those lottery numbers
  16. My God, your cat is having a monkey!
  17. Yeah Dick, I'm sorry but its pretty hideous
  18. Dick, you always seem to put an amusing spin on everything. Thank you, its very refreshing.   Hope you are feeling better, that ol' bug gone now?
  19. Well the healthier one out of the two must be on the mend, because my daughter found him with a vole in his mouth.  The poorlier one is still feeling poorly.  He has been asleep all afternoon and this evening is snuggled on my lap.  He did have a litle food, so that's a good sign. Gosh I can't believe how I'm thinking about them, are they really children in desguise?
  20. There is always Emmaus, they have a website, not that I've used or looked for it.  I think they are similar to a British charity shop.  We have several near us in Dept 79, not bought anything personally, but know many that have.  They managed to pick up some very beautiful pieces at very reasonable prices.
  21. Since moving to France last year, I haven't been able to follow any UK programmes.  I have thought about it a hundred times whether to invest in some equipment in order to receive UK tv.  I truly miss programmes like The Apprentice and Grand Designs, but these are small sacrifices I will have to learn to live without.  The trouble with me is I would end up addicted to watching everything, a bit like posting on this forum really. From what I've read though, I reckon Michelle will win.  She seems very similar in personality to last years winner. Hope you all enjoy it, let me know who wins. Dotty
  22. John I guess its like anything new, folk are always a little scepticle (sp) of how it will work.  I'm not saying that your 'forum' wouldn't work, its just I've seen the trouble that has gone on this forum, technically wise I mean and, well perhaps some people don't want to be guiney pigs. I personally don't use any other forums, I have had a look and didn't like the formats, or perhaps didn't give them enough time to try and navigate my way round, but I find this forum enough to keep up with. I think your offer is generous and kind, I wish you good luck with it. Dotty
  23. Oh I'm sure they will. [:)]
  24. Thank you for all your kind words of advice.  Made the appointment and saw the vet.  Would appear the kitties have colds.  They both had injections and have a course of tablets, they have some sinus tablets and eye cream as well.  I have to keep the sicker one in for two days, to make sure he takes his medicene. For the consultation, 3 injections, two lots of tablets and eye cream, it came to the grand total of 76.00 euros.  Many thanks again Dotty
  25. Yes, just have sent you a reply.
