  1. Just a quick update, today we received a letter from Eurotunnel explaining there position on the frequent traveller scheme and that there are no plans to change the way it works. They did, however, refund the 155 pounds charged for the crossing and as a good will gesture have given a 60 pound credit for our next ticket.Well done Eurotunnel,my faith is restored, and it only took one letter!
  2. Does anyone know the french term for these? We need one possibly two fitted in our barn and are not sure what they are called.
  3. Shhh, don't tell everybody .We are in the Cher and its wonderful.Beautiful countryside, friendly locals and very few non French, just proper France.
  4. I'd just like to echo what blanche neige has said. What a beautiful piece of furniture. I acquired a Klondike stove(nothing in comparison with yours) but the riddle and damper had rusted solid. I used good old WD40 and just kept slowly moving it over a matter of days. All the moveable bits now work fine.
  5. " A pal " How much of a pal? It is after all free advice and if he gets the hump with you for sticking your nose in then no more favours will he ask.
  6. The auto booths weren't working and I hereby pledge my name for a lobby/petition for joint accounts.
  7. I appreciate what you're saying but unlike a group of freinds my wife and I share the same surname and more importantly the same bank account that Eurotunnel take their money from.It wouldn't be hard to make it available to spouses or even joint account holders.
  8. Yes,I've just read that myself. Don't think I'll be using that service again then. My wife has just been in touch saying she has just got to France, not bad for 155 quid, a 5 hr crossing time!
  9. My wife tried to travel out alone on our frequent traveller pass this morning as I'm flying out next week to meet her.She was turned away and made to pay 155 pounds for a one way ticket because although the pass is paid for from our joint account I am the registered holder. She is now caught up in the holdups and has been waiting 4 hrs for her crossing.Do we have a case for reimbursement on either count
  10. Living only an hour from Dover its always the tunnel. Used to use Speedferries but got fed up with the delays.Having said that my wife is going out a week earlier than me in the summer,so I am flying Shoreham-Le Havre and she is going to come and pick me up.
  11. We're in exactly the same position. We are having fosse inspections in our village and our compromis de vente says the same as yours.I couldn't find the "private system" anywhere so I emailed the selling agent. Its over 18 months since we bought but the very helpful lady at the agents has been in touch with the previous owner who is drawing us a plan of where it is.
  12. I  find the A28 to Rouen the best and quickest way.I turn off before Rouen to the airport (also signed Pont de l'Arche)N15 right round Rouen. I then pick up the N154 which is a fantastic road. It is autoroute standard to Dreux ,between Dreux and Chartres is mostly dual carriageway then a short hop after Chartres an you're back on the A10 .Mappy shows it as 10hrs 35 mins to Carcassone  but it also shows 5hrs 40mins to my house and it is always 5 and1/4 hours. The tolls also work out about 20 euros cheaper aswell.
  13. I,m coming over to my house on friday night and have to see the England game on Saturday. Will it be on tv channels available through the aerial as I dont have digital, if not what about English radio on MW. Matt
  14. My only concern is if I have three sockets in one room and two in another on the same circuit, potentially two high load items?
  15. If I am running a 20a circuit with a maximum of 5 sockets is it wise to also put a 20a single socket circuit? in the rooms for the use of fan heaters and other high load appliances?
  16. As I put in my earlier post ,my gripe is not speed limits but the use of variable speed limits on the motorways when the motorway is completely clear .As I said, these are clearly to make money and are dangerous. It annoys me that you are then branded a criminal for speeding when there was no need for the lower limit. With regards the word criminal, technically yes you are,but if in a room of people you were told that one person in that room was a criminal, what would you mind conjure up. Not a speeding motorist I suspect. And before you get holier than thou I have lost someone close through speeding.
  17. I am unlucky enough to drive the western side of the M25 most days.Whilst the variable speed limit does help in the morning rush (that now starts at 5.30 am),I cannot see any other reason than revenue raising for speed limits set at 50 and 60 mph at 2 in the afternoon on a clear motorway. It is also dangerous because people see a clear road accelerate to 70 then see the sign and break hard.
  18. Can some one tell me the difference between disjoncteurs and coupe de circuit and which I should use Cheers Matt
  19. So even the cabling running to my light pendants in the ceiling void should be in gaine?
  20. I am in the same boat as P.I want to convert my loft and so assumed that I needed a watertight layer under the tiles.Do I understand correctly that what you are all saying is that I dont need this ,even though I intend to insulate and plasterboard the underside of the roof.Would it be better to use conventional rockwool or celotex. I have plain flat roman tuiles if it makes any difference. Cheers Matt
  21. Sorry ,just read the electrics glossary and that answered my uk t&e question. If I use the U1000 cable where do I need to put it in gaine and conduit. Matt
  22. I apologise in advance as I'm sure this has been covered Can I use UK twin and earth in France and if so does it need to be in gain, conduit or nothing at all in the ceiling void.
  23. Thanks for all your comments. So ,does anyone know a competetively priced, reliable, friendly, conscientious plumber in the Cher(18) region ?
  24. Just received the devis, its not broken down ,just one lump price and it is just a straight forward 200 ltr tank using the existing water and electrical feeds. The total including TVA is 1076.40 euros, sounds a lot to me.
  25. I haven't had the devis yet but as far as I know its a straight swap other than putting an isolation switch in.The price for the tanks varies hugely depending on the stra ratings.I saw one which was 5 star in Brico depot which was 320 euros ,guess i'll wait for the devis and see. Thanks also for the fosse advise. There is a washing machine waste in the barn so i'll fill it up when i'm next out and see what happens. Cheers Matt
