Signed !.....I have never forgotten the time I was in an inflatable tender coming ashore in a little bay in Devon and I stopped and just drifted while two dolphins chased each other about round the boat.... people swam out... and came out on surf boards just to be with them.....I have also just seen the photo in the paper and I have decided my planned trip this year to family will not include a stop over in Japan...and I will not buying one of their cars .

Many years ago I was told that French children in school were taught that there is no need to travel out of France to take holidays...That France can provide whatever kind of holiday a person needs . so I suppose it follows that if you have to go out of the country the National Airline is instilled into the population as the only one you should use . the loyalty thing . Where would the French tourist industry be today if we had been taught to stay at home ?

Somthing is afoot at Poole as they are taking more dockside frontage and I thought they were going to use a bigger ferry..... or put an extra on as the passenger numbers are up year on year .... and they need more park up space ? ....I am going out tomorrow night on BF but not from Poole this time or I would have found out and posted ....returning after Easter and will be interested if sombody has found out exactly what they intend to do .

I have just seen in a store an "Inflatable " whirlpool spa which I should think 4 people could sit in ... blow it up ....fill it up......set the temperature .....fire up the pump..... pour out the wine and in ......now that could be a good idea !

If you feel like a relaxing couple of hours on the water ....then go to Marans ..its in the center of the Marais Regional Park You can hire a small family size motor boat with a canopy to give you shade and go for a chug up the Vendee river..... or the canals.... You can row one if you feel energetic ....An attractive old town with waterside cafe's and many boat hire places to choose from... all with safety in mind ...They provide flotation jackets for children of all sizes -
From my experience I would follow Sunday Drivers advice on this .....its not worth going after the money its too much hassle . I was awarded none paid rent owed by a UK court ....to be paid back at a fiver a time .....I got two postal orders ...then it stopped .....I think it would have cost me more in time and petrol to go and cash them in at the Post Office .....I didnt bother in the end .

Check the prices in France ...........a guy in my Dorset village went over on a same day booze cruise from Poole and ended up buying a 6 foot X 4 foot one from the tye and exhaust outlet opposite the hypermarket and dragging it back .........he was delighted as he saved a lot on the UK price for one the same size .

Thank you everybody for your recommendations ...and Pancake the visitor cover sounds good...I had no idea that such cover was available issued in Australia for tourists..so could be the answer as I like the idea of a local company to deal with if God forbid one of us has to claim while out there ....... I am in a few days going over to the Vendee for a month or so and will sort it on my return ..grateful ...

Cassis .... you are a star !... thanks for doing that for me .

I have for years used an annual multi trip travel insurance that used to be worldwide ....A couple of years ago I changed it on renewal to Europe only ..I have been trying to find cover for an annual worldwide one again as later in the year we plan to go to Australia. ....Boy do they head for the hills when you enter on line the fact you are 65 ..... The company I am with are not happy about cover for longer than 31 days away if I go to " Wordwide "cover with them for a trip to Australia . We plan to be away longer than that.....Money Supermarket . com cant even find me cover.....looks like I am going to have to find single trip for the Australia journey if we are to be away over a month ..at great cost ! just because I am now 65 and will be 66 at the time we travel ...I feel I am probably fitter now than when I was 64 .......Grrrrrrr..........Any recommendations ?

Panda ......Somebody will no doubt be able to quote the law on this ...but ....as far as it was made known to me there is little to worry about unless at the time of the purchase you were aware of information that the seller did not have......like .... to the effect that the value of the property and land would be about to increase due to some influence on it .or . if you knew sombody who wanted the house and land badly and would be prepered to pay a lot more for it . and you got it cheap and then sold it on . If you are going to stay in the house yourself then I should not be too concerned .

Now that we find ourselves spending a good part of the year in France ..I realised that I was still paying out for water in the UK at a charge based on my property rated value when water was not being used . Like I should think .... lots of people ....I have just not felt bothered with it .......up to now . I pay my water charge to the local water company. and the sewage charge to Bristol . Last year in March I had a water meter fitted as I felt with just two of us at home now it would be worth it ....The reading of the meter was overlooked after 6 months use and I have recently demanded it be read ..........the result .. my cost for water has been greatly reduced as even with the dishwasher we are now classed as low users ....In 10 months I overpaid the water company £185.91 and the sewage company £296.39.....for which cheques have been recieved and my new charges altered to reflect our future use ....Some of you may be in the same position and the cost of the next crossing could be there in your overpaid water bills ...worth talking to your water and sewage company if you have not done it already. Good luck !

The cost for labour ....is £500 per day ...materials were on top of that ......to change the boiler put in two rew rads and some new pipe work total quoted was £2700 . Two days estimated work. .this must be because Bracknell is so close to London .....glad to say this Dorset area has not got such labour charges ......yet !
-
The people who are lying back in the sun are probably CORGI registered heating engineers in the UK. Last night I heard of one who had quoted on house in Bracknell to fit new boiler and some rads .....his labour charge was £500...per day.....its my neighbors daughter .....and is not bothered if she accepts or not he has so much work .

Is it a bad thing to get to grips with all the holders of forged passports and altered stolen ones ..Lots seem to be found in raids on people trafficers and obviously carried by many who have newly arrived in the UK ..Add to them those that arrived in and under a lorry and lets face it.... Immigration lost track of who is in the UK ages ago .and over time with the new system they just might get an idea of ..some ...of the unaccounted for ...Even if they dare not now show themselves they may later on ... their kids one day will want a passport and it could be an interesting conversation as mum and dad have to explain to them why the dodgy one wont work anymore and they cant apply for one. I am all in favour of fingerprints on all countries passports .....they should have been a requirement 30 or 40 years ago...and all scanned into the system in Immigration .. things might just be a bit different population and crime wise right now if people knew they would be held on record after arrival .......... If you have nothing to hide ....you have nothing to be worried about ! I read recently that Supermarkets had a more accurate way of measuring the UK population than the Governement.....I suppose by the number of store cards they have issued and knowing how big the family shop is ...they put the UK population at near 82 million . way above to 60 odd the Goverment calculated ....if I had to believe which computer system gave the most accurate results the UK Governements or the Supermarkets ..going by how crowded the trains are these days ....it would have to be the Supermarkets .

As I see it the authorities in Hungary correctly imposed a movement restriction order on poultry and meat products to prevent the spread of bird flue in the area of their outbreak. Now ...it appears such Hungarian regulations do not apply to internaationl movement of meat products....that requires an EU regulation to be imposed ..thus it would appear Bernard Matthews imported meat from Hungary after the outbreak as DEFRA could not order them to stop the importation as to do so would be in breach of EU regulations . What is going on here ? why are they in DEFRA so frightened to break an EU rule that obviously needs breaking in the public interest then argue to have it changed afterwards.... a .payment of compensation risk if they get it wrong ... I suppose ?

Years ago I knew a guy who was happy to deal with wasp nests ...but ....he wanted the grubs for fishing bait ....Do people still use these grubs for bait when river or lake fishing ?
