  1. Thanks, SD, and I think you're right about the E106/dependents. Perhaps I should have researched it a bit sooner. PP.
  2. SD, we arrived in France on the 16th of March and have registered at the Mairie. You sound as though you may have earned your living the same way my wife and I did so you'll understand when I tell you that she was sick for well over a year before they retired her - hence, no pay, no NIC, short date on the E106. She officially retired in Nov. 2005. Our son isn't include on her E106 and I'll make sure he's shown as a dependent on my CV and my wifes' when she gets hers next year. Neither of us has registerd yet as we are awaiting my most recent P60 (I'm told its' going in the post next week) so, no, they haven't declined as I haven't had the chance to ask them. I think, from what advice I've received so far that, P60 excepted, I've got everything we need (birth certs: marriage cert: scholars cert. for our 6 year old, RIB and a utility bill or three) but I'm going to take passports too-just in case! As I said on my earlier post, we want to do everything right, not least because my dad was born less than an hour from where we are living and we are here for good. Just a shame he never spoke any French to me-life would have been easier, but I'm getting there. Bless him, he moved to England when he was 6 - the same age as our lad is now so I feel that I've completed the circle.   Thanks again for your help, PP
  3. Thanks, Ron. My wife is 37 (she retired from the police, with a pension, on the grounds of ill-health) and I am 54 with a police pension. As far as I am aware, my wifes' is a normal E106 which expires on the 5th of Jan. 2008. I think we both want to do the 'right' thing and pay into the French system hence CPAM - then again, I've no idea what CMU is (just going back into the forum to look it up). I've phoned Newcastle and they are sending the necessary letter and I think I have everything else - birth certificates, marriage certificate and my latest P60. Again, thanks for your help,   PP.
  4. Ron, both my wife and I are retired in living up here in the cold Pas de Calais. My wife has an E106 but I wasn't entitled to one as I retired more than 5 years ago. Do I still need the letter or is my wifes' E106 enough? We also have a 6 year old son (life in the old dog yet) and have a scholars certificate  from his school. We were going to the local CPAM office tomorrow but if I need a letter that's going to have to be postponed.  Can you nudge me in the right direction?   Thanks, as always, PP.
  5. Thanks, again, for the info. The visist was actually also for our 6 year olds' benefit as he had had a minor op. before coming to France and there was a small problem - so we did pay for the visit but it was't a great deal and I still have the receipt. We're going to visit the CPAM office next week. My wife has an E106 but I don't as I retired more than 5 years ago so I'll make sure I take my last P60 with me (I have a government pension) and hope that everything will be sorted. Many thanks, PP.
  6. A thousand thanks (or a 'susan' as my neighbour pronounces it), PP.
  7. Ron, we recently arrived in France (Dept.62) and signed up with the local doctor. He gave us a signed form which he told us to send off to the local CPAM office in Boulogne. They sent it back saying that we weren't registered with that office. Our near neighbours got a form from the same office with an immatriculation number already printed on it and ready for signature by the local doc. We've already filled in and returned the form to the Mairie telling them that we are living here permanently - where have we gone wrong? Have we short circuited the system somehow? I'd be very grateful if you or someone else could help with this as my wife needs regular medication and has only a months' worth left.   With thanks in advance, PP.
  8. Finally moving into my French home this Friday and also have a 'blank canvas' as far as heating is concerned. At present there ar just two storage heaters. I have been reading a little about pellet stoves. Anyone have experience of them?   Thanks for any help,   PP
  9. Pagnol, I'm moving to a village just outside Hesdin on Friday. Could you pm me the details too?   Thanks, PP
  10. Wow! That was a quick response. Thanks to you both (JayJay & Cjlaw) I'll have a look at it once I get FT to switch me on.   PP
  11. I'm moving into my French home next Friday and will be looking to get telephone and broadband as soon as poss. I've been looking at all the special ex-pat systems offered but have never heard of 'Alice'.Can someone enlighten me please?   PP.
  12. Thanks to both Ron & Cooperlola, I think I can dispense with the asprin now.   Steve.
  13. AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. I think I have a headache! When I read the 'Living France' guide to living and working in France (2006) the section on income tax said that if you pay that tax in one EU state you will not be further taxed on it in the state in which you live. My wife and I are both police pensioners and our pensions are taxed in the UK. Am I right in thinking that all we have to pay is our health charges (8% ish) of our gross pension income (we have no other)? I know this has probably all been discussed before but I still can't quite get to the bottom of it.   Steve.
  14. Sorry, didn't quite know where to put this query so just shoved it anywhere in the hope that someone would pick up on it. I want to buy a new, or nearly new, LHD car when I move to France (62) in a couple of weeks time. Does anyone know of a dealer in Pas de Calais that will take my RHD 3yr old Renault in P/X? There are plenty of LHDs available in the UK but none of the dealers will give me an even approaching sensible quote on it because it's a bit unusual (a Vel Satis). My local Renault dealer will do the deal for me (with a new LHD car) but for some stupid reason Renault will only deliver it to him AND with a UK reg. which means that, in a few weeks time, I've got to drive all the way back to north Essex to exchange the cars AND go through all the hassle of paying road tax (for the journey back to Dover) sending off the V5 to show permanent export and reclaiming just 5 months of the 6 months road tax I've just paid and finally re-registering it. I've been told that 2H cars in France are very expensive (in comparison with UK) is this true?   Thanks, Steve.
  15. For inexpensive removals, try e-bay. We've had a quote for just £1100 for a move from N.E.Essex to Dept 62 (an hour inland from Boulogne).
  16. I am also interested in what happens as I had a telephone call last week from an English neighbour who has told me that following the recent storms the roof of the house we are purchasing has been damaged. As this damage occurred after we signed the compromis de vente are we responsible for the repair or the vendor? I understand that we have the opportunity to inspect the property for loss/damage occurring between compromis and acte before signing the latter, is this true? I should just add that the house has been empty for some time and the current owner lives in Lille. Thanks in advance for the help,   PP.
  17. My wife and I are both retired Police officers and are moving to Dept. 62 in 2 weeks. Having spoken to the DWP this morning I can tell you this much. I retired in 2001 and do not qualify for an E106. My wife retired in 2005 and has been working one hour per day as a school dinner lady. She does qualify and will get an E106 valid until the 5th of January 2008 and both I and our 6 year old son can 'piggy-back' her entitlement.
