  1. Hi Charlie   My hubby is an architectural technician. He is self-employed (in Vendée) but has been lucky enough to work for 2 firms of architects based in the UK. He works from home and because they knew him from when we lived in UK, he has continued to work for them, but from France! Perhaps you could do something like this? He is fully registered here and pays all his cotisations, tax, etc, but all clients are in UK.   Best of luck - we are near La Roche sur Yon, if you want any help.
  2. The Chambre of Commerce (language dept) is looking for expats willing to teach adults Contact tracey for more details [email protected]
  3. Whereabouts are your lovely doggies?? Do they get on with other dogs?
  4. www.inthevendee.com has chippy and things advertised, I think!
  5. I Agree with Sophie B! You have obviously fallen in love with this house, so why not go all out to 'save' it? I know of an English chap who does Mortgages over here in France; he may be able to help; I'll email you his address if you like. I always say that if your name is on a house, you'll get it, so best of luck!!
  6. ASTTRAL is a brokers based in French. Nick IS English and is superb for any advice, best prices, etc, for all types of insurance, and uses all the bigger names in French insurers. Good luck! Oh - email is [email protected]
  7. They mean the same thing. FAI is Frais d'Agence Inclus HAI is Honoraires d'Agence Inclus   So this would normally mean that you would also add the Notaire's fees to this amount.
  8. You could also email or phone Nick Chubb who lives in France, and comes highly recommended. He deals with several major French insurers and finds the best price. He will also spend lots of personal time advising you . A super (English) chap. [email protected]  +33 (0)4 68 32 41 20 Good luck! Sandie
  9. I know of a couple, but they are just west of La Roche sur Yon, so probably too far.
  10. Anyone got a 3 bed village or near village, unfurnished place which could be rented for approx 6 months; garage preferable. Merci d'avance.
  11. I am registered as A/C so mandates arent a problem. But with the new laws (as far as I can make out) I am no longer allowed to take a percentage of the commission, unless I claim 10% as apporteur d'affaires (ie I provided the client) The other 10% which I used to be able to claim will now be obsolete (again, as far as I can surmise!) I was advised that if I set up a UK company with only myself as director, I could claim the other 10% for services rendered/translating, etc. It seems a very odd way of going about things, hence my original question! And how will other, French national A/C's get around it??? It is SOOOO complex!!
  12. Nick Chubb (English but living in France) will be happy to find you the best price (via a French insurance company) I and many others have used him and he is brilliant! [email protected]
  13. Thanks for that! I am totally registered in France (ask the taxman and French accountant!) but as Agent Commercial, and with the new laws here, I have heard that if my business were reg'd in UK I would still be able to assist with house sales - it's a minefield!
  14. I havent been personally, but I know several who have. I suppose reading up is fine, but the seminars involve people actually living in France, who can perhaps offer first hand experience, warts and all!
  15. It has probably already been covered, but .............. if I have a UK registered business which makes money in France, do I have to pay tax in both countries? Merci d'avance
  16. This site might be of interest to people thinking of moving or buying a second home in France. Weekend seminars in different towns in the UK www.relocate-france.co.uk
  17. I know this is a long shot, but is anyone passing Vendee tomorrow (Mon 30th) to go to St Malo? My friend needs to get back urgently to UK on the 7.15pm ferry to Portsmouth (shes booked on) - her  hubby is working in UK and is poorly. If not, dont worry, I'll take her, but IF anyone could help - brilliant! Thanks in advance

  24. Well, I only asked!!!   Thanks Tink - that was useful, if disappointing news! I certainly didnt want to start a heated and political debate! It just seems that we 2 are working 8 months just to pay the government et al, and 4 to pay the running costs!! And, no, hub wasnt 'swinging the lead', he was in intensive care after a heart attack (no doubt contributed to by the constant demands for money!!) Stiil, it STILL beats living on Blighty!
