  1. When we bought our house near Domfront last year, we joined Brittany Ferries Property Owners Club. We live in the North of England and we have a four hour drive to the South coast. For us, it is the convenience of crossing Portsmouth to Caen, with just a 1hr 20 min drive on the other side. We are going for 12 days over Easter and have paid 187 pounds for a morning crossing by the Caen Express and normal ferry return, morning also. Free cabin coming back. We have also just priced up August, 17 days in France for 340 pounds. We could save a little by going out in the afternoon, and as Bill says, Tuesday crossings are cheaper. We usually go out on a Friday and return on a Sunday as we don't have the luxury of being able to pick and choose, when we are retired we will!!
  2. Hi Angie We also used it at Easter, the great thing is the time that you save. We had a meal in the restaurant, 2 courses, think it was about 8.95, and it was ok. As it was not busy, we actually kept our seats in the restaurant for the rest of the journey. It was not full, so it was very civilised. I agree, it will probably be our preferred route from now. Enjoy the trip!! Bonnie
  3. We will be completing on our house in July and plan to leave our touring caravan next to the cottage whilst we complete the internal renovations. At present, it is insured with the caravan club, but they tell me that they cannot insure it whilst it is France. Is there anybody who has been in this situation, and could perhaps help with a name of a reputable insurer? We envisage the caravan being abroad for approximately 18 months. Grateful for any info. Thanks Bonnie
  4. This is so confusing!! We are in the process of purchasing near Domfront. Bear with me,as this may be a bit long winded!! Both of us have been married before. I have one child, my husband has two. None from this marriage. I am quite happy for the children to get their share, but my husband is 15 years older than me and without being too morbid, law of averages says I will out live him. I do not want to be in the position of having to sell my maison secondaire, and wish to have the right to use it until I then meet my maker. Should I be looking at this tontine clause? We will not complete until July, so would appreciate any advice.
