  1. Hi We are moving into our property at the end of this month and have a wood burning boiler for the central heating. What is the best way of obtaining logs and what is the average cost. We are able to obtain some wood off our own land but not sufficient Karen
  2. Hi We are moving to Vasles, about 19km from Parthenay as from the end of June. We think it is a great area, people very friendly, especially when my husband was taken ill when first property hunting last year in the area. Go for it, my husband is over there at the moment working on our smallholding getting the stabling sorted for our horses, my brother in law is with him first time in the area and can't get over how great the area is and how friendly the people. So if you are near Parthenay there are some lovely small villages around and also St Maxient L'Ecole has lots to do and good selection of Immobiliers for property. Best of luck and any more info needed please feel free to contact Karen
  3. We are moving our horses & dogs over to Vasles near Parthenay at the end of the month. Originally we were going via Brittany ferries Portsmouth/Caen crossing overnight an eight hour trip. Our dogs will just curl up and go asleep, but as regards the horses, one of them could get a bit twitchy due to the length of time. Have considered going P & O from Dover to Calais as this is a shorter crossing though a longer drive. What have been other peoples experience and what recommendations, suggestions please!!!!! Karen & Frazer All our documentation for the animals is in order and everything is arranged with the vets also prior to crossing
  4. We notice that people quote a change of "marriage regime", what does this actually mean? We were married abroad in the Seychelles a service that was conducted in french, which our Notaire commented on at the time of completion. Does this "marriage regime " only apply to marriages in the UK? Karen & Frazer
  5. Hi Ned We are in 79, but have had no problems with DEFRA with regards to paperwork for our horses & dogs, we found them very helpful. If we can be of any help please feel free to contact us Karen & Frazer
  6. What is the situation with using a UK television in France, is it compatable or is it best just to use a french one? Also will the Sky system work also? Many thanks Karen
  7. Just to update our situation. Our Notaire has sorted out our particular situation, and the Tontine Clause is in our contract as this is the best way for us.He is also sorting out our French wills for us. We move in a month, everything finally sorted. Talk to your Notaire, he will sort out the best for your situation. Hope this helps anyone in a similar situation Karen
  8. Hi Hazel We are moving for good to Vasles in 3 weeks time, You can't be too far from us. We like the area as the locals are very friendly and quite willing to help.We think it is a great area. Karen
  9. Just to let you know that everything was resolved re the tontine clause, we have sorted out a different clause which suits our situation. Re the length of time to put a charge on an English property, nearly 5 months down the line, we are finally there, and will be moving at the end of this month!!! It has been worth the wait, just to let peoplw know it does come good in the end Karen
  10. We are buying a property in France, my husband has two children from a previous marriage and wants me to have full use and title of the property in the event of his death. We have therefore asked for the Tontine Clause to be included in the paperwork. However, the Notaire does not seem to think this is necessary. We are confused, as the day of completion is rapidly approaching. Any advice would be appreciated Karen
