  1. Hello folks! Can someone give me the nearest equivalent to the ever useful English word - Yuk ? Cheers
  2. Can anyone please tell me what the speed limits are, if any, when towing a trailer in France. I know there are restrictions on the Autoroutes in places, but are there general restrictions?  Many thanks,  Steve.
  3. Can anyone tell me if the six month time limit on presenting cheques for encashment is the same in France. as in the U.K.? I issued a french bank account cheque to a French Company 5 months ago. They haven't cashed it as they have been unable ( so far) to supply the goods I ordered. Will my cheque become invalid in a month's time.? Thanks in anticipation. Carole
  4. Hi  -  Lots of folk more knowledgable out there than me so I hope they can give you a more definitive answer, but ,by granting grazing rights you may have already given the farmer a right of precedence, and possible  rights of pre emption if you come to sell. Was your property offered to SAFER before you bought it.? I would advise that you take legal advice and do not put anything in writing. Sorry to if this sounds a bit doom mongerish but I have heard a few cautionary tales on this subject.
  5. Hi - Our holiday home is just North of Aigurande and have just had a fosse installed - you need to be prepared to wait a few months, but we were very happy ( they do groundworks too) As I don't want to be accused of advertising, we will be happy to give you details by PM. Cheers. S & C
  6. Not very confident, but worth a guess - Is it Falloir?
  7. Any idea of the exact location, please?
  8. Villager (UK) are very helpful and will give you the name and number of your nearest French supplier. Their number is 0044(0)870 160 2202 or there is an E mail - [email protected].
  9. Grateful thanks to everyone for their assistance - I shall sally forth without trepidation! Carole
  10. Oh yes, the Cybermen caused me a few sleepless nights! Don't recall the cybernauts, though. Also remember those  strange amphibians - bit like a cross between a budgie and a turtle, with something that looked like a food processor slicer on their hand.  Daleks never really did it for me.
  11. Im sure it's very straightforward, but to avoid an irate queue behind us, can someone tell me what happens at the automatic peage booths. I've got a French Bank card and PIN - so I just need to know what order to put ticket, card etc in and what prompts the machine will give me. I don't function well under pressure. Thanks in anticipation!
  12. Patrick Troughton the best Dr. Who, IMHO ( that dates me, doesn't it?) Who was yours?

    Cat Scan

Can any fellow moggy owners tell me exactly how they scan the cats' microchips when they are  checked at Calais/Coquelles prior to re-entering UK?  Does it vary depending on the Company( Eurotunnel/Sea France/P & O) Do you have to get them out of the car or can they be scanned in their travel cages? ( visions of  escaping cats disappearing into distance haunt me !) Advice and hopefully reassurance much appreciated! Carole
  16. No joy with an archive search, so can anyone tell me if we need any type of permission to dig out our floor ( terra cotta tiles laid on earth) , install a dampproof membrane and  then lay a concrete floor? Also - sorry to be thick, but this 170sq m rule, above which you need an Architect to draw and submit plans. Is the 170sq m in addition to existing habitable space, or do you have to deduct what is already there ? i.e. if we have 50sq m of "liveable" space,  can  we have a further 120sq m, without needing an Architect. Might need to add that we would be gaining this extra space by converting an attached Bread Oven Room. Apologies to those who have doubtless answered this a million times before. C.
  17. Seem to remember being told Christmas Crackers are not generally available in France - does anyone know if this is right? Thanks in Anticipation Carole
  18. Congratulations on the new house - we bought a place just north of Aigurande in July - lots to do, but best thing we ever did. There seem to be lots of British folk around -  in our local supermarkets at least, and lots of friendly forum members too, in my experience. Best of Luck with the renovations! Steve and Carole
  19. Thanks to everyone who took the trouble to reply - I think a few got lost in the big website changeover. We are on the Creuse/ Indre border ,Harmerw - and have been recommended a vets in La Souterraine which sounds very good ( Special thanks to Pat & Bill and Elaine!) Steveandcarole
  20. Chezchattes - It works, it works - now my appalling French will at least be correctly accented! Many Thanks Carole
  21. Can anyone tell me the necessary key combinations to produce french accents - graves, cedillas etc? Thanks in anticipation CG
  22. Can't seem to post my question - how embarrassing! If at first you don't succeed.....
  23. I can only comment on our own experience - our French trained but UK based solicitior said that the "mortgage unobtainable" get out ( if that makes sense) did not apply if one was getting a mortgage outside France, either relating to the French property itself, or remortgaging a British property to finance a French one. I think there may also be previous postings to the effect that some compromis have a clause that allows for the selling agent to find a substitute(French) mortgage if you appear to be unable to go ahead . Hope this helps. S & C
