  1. The owner has presumably lost the other long term tenants and may have to wait months to get others. 3 months rent sounds like fair compensation to me. Why don't you try staying there for a month at least, nothing to lose. BTW is this a new trend - people not buying, but long term renting ?
  2. Sorry my 4-year old daughter wants to type some emoticons. reina-maria
  3. Thanks John that's exactly what I was looking for. Hope it's problem free for you. Sean
  4. I use them, illimite and there's no billing on FT apart from the BS standing charge that is.
  5. Yep, it's hotmail, I got 6 emails today all dated Nov 29th. missing those emails meant someone drove 2 hours to deliver something to me and I wasn't in because I didn't know they were coming. haven't had any problems sending though.  Hope this is a one off.
  6. Has anyone found a good place to advertise a long term let. I'm thinking of letting my place in south Vendee for a year or so. I've been told of couple of websites but not of anyone's experience of them or of long-term letting.
  7. I've been driving on the same mix for a few months now without problem. No modifications, I drive a circa 93 Mitsubishi Delica Turbo Deisel.
  8. Is there a good website to advertise a long term let, I'm thinking of letting my place out for a year or two. I know I can get an agent to handle it locally but I was thinking of non-French who want to try out life here before taking the plunge. Is there a good website to reach such people.   TIA
  9. You know those flexible ones that you fix between taps and the copper piping. My question is - .can you take them apart ? I have one that's leaking from the bit located just before the (male end) tightening nut, after the nut it's easy to change the washer but before it seems to be fixed on, in which case I'd have to replace the whole thing just for the sake of a tiny rubber washer. TIA
  10. Isn't sunflower oil too thick ? it's much thicker than diesel. I checked the prices at the supermarket today, one was 88 cents a litre the other 89 which when deisel is 1.05 isn't really worth the potential damage to the engine/filters.  Can ayone suggest a cheaper source ?
  11. Love it. The guys who run Google are known for their unorthodoxy - I wouldn't be surprised if this is their geek way of showing their displeasure with Chimpus Maximus.
  12. Help me improve my French and I'll help you with Japanese.
  13. I've taught English all over the world, usually people prefer to learn from qualified 'native' speakers; not here. All the local 'maison familiale' (sp?) and schools have French English teachers. Unless you can commute to a big city it is very unlikely you'll get enough to live on. A TEFL course will set you back £1000 just in fees, personally  I don't think it's worth the investment, for rural France that is. The future for rural living is the Net, in my opinion, think along those lines. HTH
  14. My project is a tool for use primarily in the stock market, but could then feasably be applied to other activities. I will definately need a software programmer to do the code. My interest is in the perfecting of the tool rather than the business side, I can and probably will finance it myself. However some people I know in the industry have shown an interest, so I'd like to give them and the programmer something more tangible than sketches and Excel sheets to look at. I may be able to knock something together with Power Point, Illustrator, Photoshop and a Flash Demo builder, I just thought there must be something out there that acheives exactly what I want in one package. Just read Hegs post, I'll have a look at VB and Visio. Cheers
  15. We've got WIMAX in our Commune in Vendee now. I looked into it but find it a little pricey and you have to sign a two year contract. 1 Mbit costs follow: 100 Euro deposit 39 Euro/month 200 Euro installation charge Is anyone already using this ? I wonder how stable the signal is for you. Can you install the antenna yourself  ?
  16. I have a detailed concept and a primitive Excel version. Before presenting to potential investors or programmers I want to produce a 'demonstration' of the software as I see it in it's final state. ie a visual representation of how it will work, complete with linked windows etc. Can anyone give me any leads on what software I can use to build such a thing ? How do Pros demonstrate thier software concepts ? TIA
  17. Ron, For your information it can be done. After 3 weeks, 20 emails they were still answering my detailed question as if it were the first time and cutting and pasting instructions, evidently they don't read anything but the last email you send them. In the end I found myself that after reregistering to France and then choosing 'pay by cheque' first you can change the currency. Though I now count myself among those who will leap at the chance to trade elsewhere once rivals to Ebay establish decent alternative markets.

  19. "I think I'd be more comfortable if we could install some discreet image system for the drive to capture the vehicles that visit, (apparently they have been), it's going to be some time before we can get gates and fences up." I don't know your situation exactly but I'm sure you could have the place fenced and gated in a week even doing it by yourself. Seems to me that's the first thing to do, at least stop them driving up to the door and loading up. I'd want a camera to see who they are anyway as they're probably local and I very much doubt they'd look for a camera by the gate. If you can identify the car - report it to the police and your neighbors, and also keep your eye open for it yourself.
  20. Thanks for your comments. I have both UK and French Paypal so that isn't a problem. Most of my trading is in Europe therefore in Euros. If I leave it as it is I'll be paying Ebay an unecessary exchange fee every month. There is a facility on their site for switching billing currencies and registration, it just doesn't work and their customer service is hopeless  - quelle surprise.
  21. I've tried to get an answer on this from Ebay but for the eighth time now they've just sent me cut and paste replies on instructions to do it without answering the specific problem.  Has anyone successfully changed there billing currency from Sterling to Euros. Every time I try it the verification page produces nonesense, like country - Netherlands, and even correcting the information on that page and submitting it, the next page doesn't load. I'm presuming this may be a result of me originally registering with Ebay UK, causing a software glitch. Although I've changed the registration to Ebay France the problem continues. I know some others on the board have done this, did you have the same problem, how did you get round it ?  Unless it's changed you end up paying exchange fees every month.

  23. Does La Poste charge to receive a wire deposit from a foreign bank account in your name and in Euros? The website seems to say it's doesn't charge if it's in Euros and from your own account but I'm not certain as there is no section specific to wiring money in.
  24. You can recieve your payment from Paypal ok but you can only be registered to pay Ebay in one of the countries right ? How do you change the language on Ebay fr, I can't finds that option.
