  1. One thing:  The Court judement is concerning Social charges for those UK (or other) nationals whose health care is paid for by their home countries, i.e. those with a form S1, msotly those with an OAP. From what you say you are not the holder of an S1. Others will be along about double taxation.
  2. Decided it was worth second hand puchase from Amazon, 79 cents plus p+p.
  3. We have UK EHIC's as UK OAP's - nomoss is probably the same.
  4. You're a star Parsnips, thank you.  Will you send the reclamation letter for all three years now or wait a bit? It is not a huge amount of money in our case - all on UK investment income - but the refund would always be welcome! H.
  5. Hi Parsnips Our Avis primitif is available on the Impots website today.  Despite the fact that we quoted the Court ruling and asked that we not be charged Social contributions they have charged them as in previous years. Any advice? I think we must appeal the decision, do we just write a letter - we have never had any problems or needed to appeal before- so not sure of the "form"? Thanks for any tips. H.
  6. We agree with the two posts above. Our local hospital is more than 700 euros day so even if 70% covered a very big bill could result from an accident like breaking a leg. A somewhat cheaper option that we know some people go for is to have "hospital" cover only. So no insurance for GP or pharmacy.
  7. Veering slightly off subject a bit (sorry): We had MS security essentials and kept it all updated etc.  Problems with computer left us pulling our hair out. Told son virus checker said "no viruses".  Installed Avira - 7 viruses found and 72 dodgy files. We are pretty sure we know where they came from as we rarely download, always read and send email as "webmail", but are very disappointed that nothing was flagged up by MS S E. All cleared now but a lot of hassle. We are keeping Avira... Not having Windows 10 until sure that bugs are fixed.
  8. Idun: our understanding is that one will be able to leave money to whomever one  likes but French tax will be payable by that person at French rates! So beware of leaving money to a non- relative...
  9. My French licence is in my maiden name but says "epouse abc" so easy to see what my married name is. I used it in Québec with no problems and in fact they were pleased it was in French! Does your licence not say something similar?
  10. It does in our bit of Normandy Powerdesal!!

    Fibromyalgia?

If you go online to ameli.fr and search "ALD" a list comes up.  I have no idea about treatment though, sorry.
  12. It is terrible. I am using Firefox.  When first logging on loads of the sections look as if there is a new post (bold wording) but then one realises that they are old but showing in bold as the last one. Ghastly, ghastly. I may be reduced to trying Internet Explorer which I hate...
  13. Found original bill in the letterbox - not a surprise.  It has almost disintegrated from rain and damp but enough is readable without disturbing the wodge of paper to see what it is - taxe d'émanagement. Once it is dry and we have got rid of the little snails we can prise more apart and scan it.  As you say Chancer - why was the original bill not sent to somewhere other than an empty uninhabitable house.  We had experience of this ourselves when my parents were building a house.  EDF sent a notice, about connecting the electricity, to a field. Luckily we have a sensible post lady and she recognised the name and delivered it to us in the next village (probably illegally). Mrs H
  14. Silly question: what is the definition of "eating"?  I never "eat" whilst driving but do on a long journey occasionally ask for a sweet to suck. Bit like the definition of "rain" when looking at the autoroute speed limit...
  15. Thanks for replies - we are pretty sure now that it relates to the new tax on renovating or building. He is adamant he has had no bills but we think they may have gone to the property rather than his Uk address. We are going to look in his letterbox tomorrow. It would have been easier if this "notice de relance" had said what debt it related to !!
  16. We have been sent (by a holiday home owner in our village who lives in the UK) a copy of a bill he has received which says "Objet de la créance - Titre de perception".  The copy he has scanned to us is a "relance" and has 10% added on as he has not paid it.  The property is not yet habitable so we suspect it might be to do with planning permissions. Naturally he wants to know what this bill is for as the amount is 940 euros!   Anyone out there know please? Any help gratefully received. Many thanks H. Edit: just googled it and it looks as though the term just is just a method of collecting the money! I will get back to the person who sent it to see if he has an earlier bill.

    Influenza

Don't think it can be reported separately Idun. My mother died recently (expected and a blessing for her) -a local doctor (not her own) was called to the Maison de R. and he apparently confirmed she was dead(!), gave the nurse the certificate to say so and went. He did not examine her, and her own doctor was not involved at all. Mrs H.

    Influenza

You are right Idun - the French do not put a cause of death on the "bulletin de déces".  I have always wondered how they can say there were such and such numbers of deaths from, say, smoking each year; or in this case flu!
  19. I seem to remember that when we did our French return online there was, near the end, an opportunity to attach a document - if you can see this then you could attach the pdf form perhaps.
  20. As the only supermarket named in this post is Carrefour I feel I must say that the Carrefour Market in the town where we are volunteers with Restos du Coeur give us a lot of food every week during the season that we operate. Bread, gateaux etc near but never past the sell by date. Also any item that is the slightest bit damaged. We tell them how many families we have and they make sure that we get enough items (excluding the bread) so that every family gets at least one thing. We are not volunteers with  Banque Alimentaire who take over in the summer but I understand that they also receive items from Carrefour. Clearly it depends on the shop management but they are not all bad!
  21. When we did our return online it came up with a list of the forms we used last year - including "pink" one.  If yours does not then you should be able to find it by searching for 2047.
  22. You should contact the "non-resident's department. The tax code should not reflect the OAP.  We tell everyone to check UK tax codes anyway - many are wrong even without living outside the UK! The OAP is paid gross but if a deduction is made form a tax code used on other income it is taxed that way.  It is how it is always taxed in the UK if they can.
  23. Lindal1000: I am sorry but I think that your second paragraph is a very dangerous thing to suggest. When we saw the Notaire last week re my mother's affairs we were asked specifically how many children she had.  Even though my parents had a French marriage contract so that everything passes automatically to my father the Notaire explained that he had to write to each and every child to tell them this.  He also needs birth, marriage certs and passport copies from every child and those children will have to sign the deed he prepares. The thought of deliberately lying to a Notaire is not something I would like to contemplate.  I always work on the basis that if one would not do it in one's own country then definitely don't do it in a foreign one!
