  2. Hi..I have used it on just about every type of wood... work tops the lot... works great as previously said... They do have it in france in many brico's Look for the word scandinavia as apposed to danish.... oil of scandinavia normally with wood stains etc.. I know I am married to a dane... phil
  3. I thought that cds was finished... Go to cpam and offer to pay cotisations then to c de met and register and you are away... thats what we did... phil
  4. Hello I am about to have my test for my certificate of conformity... Everything from the consumer unit to the sockets lights etc in the house is ready but can someone tell me what size cable should be between the counter/meter and the consumer unit... Is it 10 mm2?? I am running mono phase but I cant seem to find any green, blue and red 10mm2 cable. Do I use a 3 phase cable and use only the three I need? Or is this part of the system not required for the certificate??? many thanks phil Test on Wedsnesday.
  5. Hi ... Enduit is plaster for filling the tape joints on plasterboard... Use sand , white cement and lime..... always get the mix exact or there will be colour changes all over the wall..... Use half bucker of white cement..half bucket of lime.. and three buckets of sand.. keep to the same mix. So half/ half and three. make sure you get enough sand in one delivery as different deliveries change colour too.. Hope this helps phil
  6. Built mine from blocks and put a slab of oak on each step...looks great.. so easy to do too! Dumped tons of old hard core rubbish inside as I made them to get rid of it... solid as hell...no one will ever move them. phil
  7. Stick with it...you'll find that using french blocks is easier and far better to use than UK blocks.... try using the 15cm thick blocks first they are so easy to use. Fill the gaps between the blocks after they are in place...so simple. phil
  8. Sorry I was just curious as to weather someone thought that it might all end sadly or weather someone thought we would all live here in peace forever. It seems the the only people here not living in peace are the ones argueing on here... great fun!!! phil P.S... with kids and not claiming a penny. Dont want their money, I consider 50p off of a bottle of wine payment enough.
  9. Yes.. But how will it end?? you are missing the point..
  10. Stain Block is available from Jewsons in the UK it worked well for me... it took three or four coats with plenty of drying time between coats. Never seen it here in france though...and by shear coincidence I was asking the same question to a a few builders yesterday too...and they have never heard of it here. phil
  11. It seems to me that everytime I go out the door I see an English removal van... Having been here for a few years now and settled very happily I am starting to wonder how long it will be before all the reasons that I left the UK, live next door to me. I dont begrudge anyone coming here...its a lovely place... I am just wondering where it is all leading to. How long will it be before house prices go mental as in the UK? Its already going that way a little! Just how many more gites can we have? Will it all end in tears? Will we all be kicked out or means tested to see which ones of us are contributing to the economy and who has to go home. How long will the French put up with this invaision? Most French people dont yet have a problem... but ask yourselves if you enjoyed some of the ethnic invaisions we had back in the UK or did you sometimes think "enough is enough"? At some point the flood has to stop and I am wondering if we will all be moving to the next best thing by then? Phil
  12. If you are splitting the land legally and on paper then you will have to have the geo people around to measure and renumber the two peices of land. this took about two months for us and cost about 700 euros as I remember.. phil
  13. I might be wrong but I think nothing.... The moment he wants to earn he has to register...before he earns not after..... I wish I thought different... phil
  14. hi.. saw your post about music... I live in dordogne as does a friend of mine. We are both very accomplished musicians and have found that there is work around on a small scale. We have not found the big wedding scene here but through the summer we can work at hundreds of bars in this area. We dont though. Instead we just do a thursday night at a lovely french bar where we have an open mic night. Locals come and sing a few songs and we have had people on holiday who have come by and played a song or two..the guitarist for Annie Lennox.. some guy from Wishbone Ash. We do this because we like it... we dont want to work as we did in the UK. This time its for fun. I have to say that in the winter there is nowhere to play.. not even at xmas and as for New year party... well forget it. Good luck phil
