  1. Respect to "Crazy Horse" from a life long United fan.
  2. Unfortunately Forum admin deleted my previous post in error, I had multiple posting of same message, James inadvertantly deleted first message as well as repeats. I run this forum on two setups, at home I use Win 98 with IE 6.0 and Norton personal Firewall on a broadband connection. Initially I had problems seeing posters name, control panel, emoticons etc. After a degree of trial and error I believe I identified Norton Firewall as the issue. I have added Living France as a specified site in both of the following options and changed the settings as follows In AD Blocking I have "permit all" and permit www.livingfrance.com/instantforum/ 2 green dots also appear. In Privacy control I have Permit on all these settings - Information about browser, information about visited sites, animated immages, scripts, flash animation. These are all different to the default settings. I am sure that you do not need all the settings at permit but I haven't had time to identify which is the critical setting. With the above settings everything works as it should. At work I use a laptop on a network with broadband access via a firewall. Laptop uses XP pro and it worked straight out of the box with no changes in settings required. Hope this is of use Paul ps I'll try not to multiple post this time!!!!!
  3. Hello Chardie We recently took a van load of furniture over to our house in Nievre, most was secondhand but we did have a few expensive items such as microwave, washing machine, which we had picked up in clearance sales at ridiculously low prices, too good to miss. We were stopped at UK controls on way out, asked what was in van, I told them furniture, etc some old some new and they said no problem as it was all for our own use in house. As we were travelling "tourist" not freight no one seemed interested on french side, we were just waved through customs, etc. Hope this helps Paul
  4. Thanks for the advice Keith, looks like I will have to take the precautions as TOH says this is one of my responsibilities. Strange how all the grotty, dirty jobs are always mine!!!! Paul
  5. Hello Our new house has a big open fireplace that has had an open fire and the back of the fireplace has a lot of soot and tar deposits. We want to fit a woodburner in the fireplace so need to clean the soot and tar off the stone. Any ideas please. Thanks Paul
  6. Good afternoon Can't help with the tacho question but with regard to insurance and log book queries we hired a long wheelbase merc about 5 weeks ago in the UK to take furniture to our house in 58. We were given an original "green card" for the insurance and a VE103 form by the hire company. The VE103 is a substitute for the logbook and states that the vehicle is on hire, who from, and basic vehicle indentification numbers. Strangely in these days of heightened security we were not stopped by any of the authorities, either UK or French, for checks, etc. so cannot tell if documentation was well received or not. Hope this is of use. Paul
  7. Hi Deby/Forum admin I am not sure which action solved the problem as I have enabled cookies, java, etc in Norton Firewall but only for the living france website. I then cleared all temp files on pc and all cookies before the changes would improve matters. I will, when I have time, go through all the changes removing them one at a time so that I can understand what the issue was, I may be able to help others with same problem. Deby, if you want to e-mail I will try to help - try paul_hogan01 @ hotmail.com (just remove the spaces). Paul
  8. Hi Gay Sorry about the frustration!!!! Have spent a couple of hours playing around with the firewall settings and have succeeded in solving most of the issues with the exception of the search facility which gives some wierd results and will only display one page of results. So keep up the good work, forgot it was a bank holiday in UK. Paul
  9. I am about to give up with this new layout, please help!!!! I can't see control panel, I can't see name of poster, I can't get search facility to work past the first page of results. I am running IE6 on windows 98 with Norton AV anti personal firewall, I have changed the settings in firewall to disable ad blocking, enable java, enable cookies, and allow pop ups, don't know what else to change. Does anybody have a solution as I really do enjoy this forum but frustration will drive me elsewhere if I can't solve these problems. Thanks in advance Paul
  10. good evening all I am having similar problems, cannot see posters name in box on left nor can I see Control panel but I can see the smiley's as I type this message Have tried suggestions of clearing temp files and internet settings to check for new version of page every time I access it but still no control panel or posters name. Help please. Paul ps I am using IE ver 6
  11. Good evening all I wonder if anyone can help. We are arranging to bring our furniture over soon in a long wheelbase Transit sized van but I can't find any info on the speed limits for commercial vehicles, in particular for the autoroutes. Are they the same as cars? or lower. Many thanks in advance Paul
  12. We hopefully sign final acte for our new house in June and guess by then that the grass in the garden will be overgrown, too long to mow at first.
