1. Look on ebay and try some resistance machines rather than multi-gymns as they are alot more flexible and serious harm won't be caused to people using it or to the equipment
2. Not yet.  What is it like?  We may travel around for fishing but unlikely to be for a while as we have just bought or are buying to complete on 01 Nov 05 in the Dordogne, but always looking for fishing.
3. We are shortly to complete on our lakes in the Dordogne and I would like to have an air rifle powerful enough to take out a heron or a cormorant (not that I've seen any yet).  I was wondering if they are readily available in France or would I need to buy one in the UK before I go out and then take it over there.  Are there any restrictions for owning air rifles now either in the UK or France?  It has been a while since I owned one and there weren't any then but better safe than sorry.
4. I have seen quite alot of canoes going on ebay as well as inflatable ones shipped direct from Germany all seem good value and well woth a look at.
5. Hi try the under mentioned forum: http://www.carp.com/forum/f45/s they have everything about fishing in France and are quite helpful   Paul
6.
''My mother-in-law has been resident in France for a little over a year and when we visited last year she went to the local village shop with my wife for some bread and then wouldn't even get out of t...
There may be but as she won't try to communicate with the French she is only prepared to speak with English and even refuses to go shopping if there is no-one at the "British" till in the local supermarket.  Even our kids have more of an understanding and they are aged 5 (6  in 2 weeks), 7 and 8. She is in 50 so too far for us to try and help out.
7. Just interested in rivers? Me and my wife are in the process of buying 3 lakes in 24 north west from you.  Not too sure about a club  but the requirements other than her in doors sounds feasable.
8. We are in the process of buying 3 lakes in 24.  After looking round and watching carp splashing and slamming around the lillies and the snags I am quite happy with the current stocking, However after carrying out my 1st ever "Vidange" this may change.  Were can I get a decent supply of fish from? How much am I expected to pay?
9. Too late for the reply.  As they say fools rush in and on Fri at 4am we checked our email before going to bed to find that 3 lakes were going cheap so after discussing it until 6am we went to bed.  I got up at 9am and rang the Immobilier.  I got an appointment at 8.30am Sunday and then drove from North Yorks at 12pm Friday for the late ferry (even later as it was delayed by 4 hours).  Spent sat driving from Boulogne to the Dordogne.  Had to drive for 25 mins from the rendezvous to the lakes and after 10 mins I wanted them.  I spoke to the wife @ 95p per min for about 10 mins and went for it. So once the S.A.F.E.R. have decided that they don't want it and the C.U. for the shower block and fosse has been approved (probably around early or mid autumn) then we will be new owners. The "Vidage" may have to wait as I'm not sure if we will be there in time for it this year.
10. Hi all, I have read your posts and I would like to add that my attitude to learning French is based on the way we learn English (speak before you can read and write as you learn to read). Primarily learning to talk (as children do) before going into the writing and the grammar for this we are using various different courses which all help to improve both vocabulary and pronunciation.  These include Linguaphone all talk, and a readers digest version both covering different topics and giving a broader appeal. Secondly we have already got the Hugo French in 3 months and a French intensive language course.  Both of these involve reading and writing in French with simple "useful" exercises.  As for the Michel Thomas I do have that but as yet have not felt the need to go down that road while the other two versions are still increasing my knowledge and more importantly my conversation skills.  I would just like to say that I personally feel I would rather communicate than not, also confidence is something that you have or you don't and while my ego is not particulary oversized.  I do not have a problem of using my limited vocabulary or even saying an English word with a French accent.  Or even at a push turning into a game of charades anything to communicate. My mother-in-law has been resident in France for a little over a year and when we visited last year she went to the local village shop with my wife for some bread and then wouldn't even get out of the car.  Since then she has said she won't speak french until she has mastered it but as she never practises what she learns or studies we feel she either is already or soon will be "Frogaphobic".
11. Being a dedicated fisherman for the last 33 years I have dreamed of owning my own lake now we are faced with this being a definate probability we are having all sorts of conflicting ideas. Initially we wanted to buy a lake with land to build on until we were refused a CU, then we looked at the lakes with houses built on them (too much money not big enough houses and not enough land).  Now we are buying a house in the vicinity of where we stated in the 1st place. As for the usage of the lake whether it is for personal use or for a kind of venture we are as yet undecided. We have two main concerns; Primarily we are unsure whether or not we want the same amount of land (3-5 hectares) with a largish (1 hectare)  lake, or to go with 2 smaller lakes with less land for roughly the same price and have 2 places to look after. Secondly and in reality we are undecided whether or not to purchase now and have them "running wild" until we get out to maintain them fully, or to wait and fish locally and wait and see what comes available after we have settled in.   We are buying a house in the Charente (16) on the borders of 24 and 87 Look forward to receiving any helpful ideas or possible solutions to our dilemas
12. Hi all, We have seen so many posts about how it is more expensive to live in France than it is in the UK but we are having difficulties working why.  Below is a breakdown of our UK out goings; Council Tax: £1,550 per year Band E Water Rates: £402 per year Gas (heating & cooking): £876 per year Electric: £300 per year Coal (novelty use): £36 per year  plus mortgage that we wouldn't have on moving to France We are buying a 3 (5 on completion of attic) bed semi with oil central heating, calor gas or equivalent cooker and wood burners. We live in rural Yorkshire at the moment so we are used to having to travel for amenities.  All in all we seem to find it difficult to believe that it is more expensive to live in France are we missing something?
