  1. Our water heater has packed up and have found it is the element. Has anyone replaced one or had it replaced and can give me an idea of cost please ? Posted this under shopping !!! before finding this section. Sorry for being dim !!!
  2. Has anyone replaced the element on their water heater or the water heater its self and if so what is around the price please ? We have 200 litre capacity and it looks like the element has gone. Any info gratefully received !!!
  3. Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but will be in Paris for New Year with my daughter and her husband. They live in Australia and are really looking forward to it. Have booked an Indian meal for New Years Eve but would like to book somewhere also for New Years Day. I know lots of small places will be closed but on net says there are places open. Anyone got any ideas ?
  4. Thank you for the quick response :-) I have printed it off :-) So fingers crossed when it has to be done !
  5. I can agree Kangaroo cards are excellent. Have used them for years. Lovely cards at a good price. They had one missing from my order as not in stock so sent and extra one and the orderes one at a later date. Can't ask better than that ! I know not personalised but you can do that with your message.
  6. Hoping someone can help again :-) If I buy a new laptop and wish to use Incredimail how do I set this up from my Orange mail. Someone did it for me the last time so have no idea what to do ! Very dim so easy instructions please. You have all been great in the past so hoping you will come up trumps again Thanks in advance !
  7. I bought one from chez Lidl reduced at the moment to 70 euro and I am very pleased with it.
  8. Wish we had done that if it was easier !!!
  9. I have no experience of US to France but do from OZ to France and my advice was just do not contemplate it !! I sent back motorcycle clothing , christmas presents from my daughter as we spent Xmas there and a pool cleaner given from her for our birthdays . I have an enormous file and lots of hastle which ended up in us going to Le havre to the shipping agent and then to the customs as they would not release it unless we did. Then we got the 3rd degree on why we were sending clothing second hand ( was our own sent out earlier by La Poste in numerous parcels to use on a motorcycle holiday )They then charged us an arm and a leg in import duties !! We sent these boxes with a reputable shipping agent in Oz and hired and agent in Le Havre to deal with this end but still had to go ourselves. And the whole thing took weeks and I must say the customs were not at all helpful. So my advice is just don't go there!!
  10. Just read about the property prices but depends where you look. Try away from the main towns. Perhaps between Tulle and Argentat but up higher. I know there are a number of houses for sale in La Roche Canillac and Marcillac La Croisille. Near enough towns but lovely villages which are quiet. is an area worth exploring.
  11. I think Brive is nice too but Tulle has changed massively since we arrived. Used to so dull and sad but is much more lively and so many improvements ( Maybe as they have Francois Holland ? ) People in Tulle are much friendlier :-) Brive is much snobbier :-) Will give an example - Asked in Brive if parking was free behind the shops on a Saturday. Reply Madam this is Brive not Tulle !!! Reminds me of when I lived near Thurso and the difference between Thurso and Wick. Thurso always thought it was a cut above Wick !! Saying all that Brive is lovely for a day out and will say very quietly, if you don't mind hearing lots of British voices. Is the main shopping place for all the Loters too !  We are 20km from Tulle and 50 from Brive so just right for us. The French ask if I do not find the Correze too remote and laugh when I tell them this is not remote ! 8,500 people in Wick and Thurso and 120 miles to Inverness to main shops . That is remote !!!
  12. You could not have a better description of this beautiful department. I loved it on my first visit on holiday and have loved the 6+ years I have lived here. And from a local the description is so much better !!!
  13. Thanks all for your input :-) Think I know what I am doing now :-)
  14. Exactly Pickles :-) Is maybe my question was badly worded ! My husband says I talk in riddles but I am female. I have not changed the huge access code so guess I should have ? But if no one else can use it then I am not too worried. I trust my neighbour 100% I just told him I will have to kill him if he gives it to anyone else !!! His brother Marc works for France telecom so he can fix any mess !! but just don't want anyone else asking !! We have a gite just up the road so will be other folks there in the summer
  15. Hi folks thanks for that but is an orange live box and is very secure. If anyone knows the key then they must be excellent as it is huge! The reason I ask is because I normally use the computer plugged in I only have a need for wifi sometimes. And I wanted to switch off when not needed so people do not know there is a connection around. There are other visitors who use the house and they are very friendly and come every year and I just do not want to be in the position of being asked if I mind them logging in !! I am too soft and find it difficult to say well I would prefer not !! It does seem to slow down my computer. The owners of the house had a laptop each !!!
  16. Is it possible to disable wifi when I don't need it and then switch on again when I do. Reason I am asking is because a good neighbour ( holiday home , french ) came and asked if the wifi he had found was me and could he use it ! I actually don't mind as he is a good friend and only here 2 times per year but if others use his house don't want all comers to ask ! i use mostly plugged in so would like to only switch on wifi when I want to use rather than leave on all the time ! Thank you :-)
  17. Of course it is paradise but don't say it too loudly ! Just in case lots of folks think the same and arrive en masse ! I am pretty rural nearest village La Roche Canillac and we can get ADSL no problem but we have friends ( English one of only 2 !! All our others are french. ) However they cannot get ADSL except by satellite so would be worth finding out if it is available where you want to be. It is interesting as they are much nearer to Tulle and no ADSL as they are in a valley. If you come to the Correze and want to talk then pm and maybe we could meet up. Not sure I can tell you all you might want to know but have been here nearly 7 years so feel pretty much at home !
  18. I agree with all of the above except 'dress like a native ' If that means wearing a wrap round overall !! Hugely overpriced at local market ! Hubby has been threatening to buy me one for last few years !
  19. I am very surprised and disappointed at the negative comments given to La Correze. Maybe in times gone by and perhaps still by the Parisiens ( although  lots buying houses for holidays now !! ) it was or is considered La France Profonde but now the towns of Tulle and Brive are vibrant and not at all backward thinking ! The people who live in the countryside are very simple living kind and welcoming folks. I agree choose carefully where you buy in terms of getting the best sun all the year round but if you want tranquillity and beautiful scenery then this is the place for you. Winter can be harsh but I disagree with saying it is long except for this year ! And that was bad for all. Normally I don't think real winter begins till December and finishes in March but you can enjoy winter sunshine. We spent our first winter here in our motorhome on a technically closed campsite and were very happy. ( The owner took 11 euros per night and provided us with a chalet for loo and shower with a heater as the main block was closed for winter. His mother provided us with eggs, veg and jam weekly ! That is being made welcome ) Best to come and visit :-)
  20. Ok I live here and have for the last nearly 7 years . Love it and although we know France fairly well and did also before we came it is the best place for us. But we are Scots !!! Countryside is beautiful just like Scotland ! People very friendly. The climate is cold in winter but we are at 400 metres so less cold the lower you go !! Normally sunny but so you can sit out in the direct sun even in winter. Probably just as you would do in a ski resort !  Summers hot but not too hot. Hot enough to enjoy our pool and too hot to work in the afternoon. Nothing wrong with that ! Who wants to work all day when you are retired ! Not sure what else I can tell you except we love it and have felt very at home from day 1.
  21. Just looked but you must have a UK address so no use to me [:(]
  22. Ok guys nothing in TL or 8TL [:)] In fact TL does not exist [:)] Thanks for the help :[:D]
  23. Sorry didn't make my post too clear. Don't put  total in 2047 Section VIII just the writing stating 121 but does that mean also leave total  out of Box 8TL on 2042. Answer would be great as then I am off to had in to Mme Impot [:D] Hope that is better explained !!
  24. As this is the first year with an E121 have followed the advice to put no amount 2047 but just checking that also means you do not put an amount in 8TL either. Seems obvious but thought I had better check !!!! Have kept a monthly chart of income and totals are so much easier [:D]  But as Sunday driver says Mme Impot is going to wonder at the dip in savings interest declared but guess they have heard of the crise  too !!! [:(]
  25. Anyone else using Telerabais and finding it takes several calls to get a line ? Has never been a problem till the last week or two. I understand they just buy surplus lines from FT so wonder if it is FT being difficult.
