If you want a 2 hectare lawn, then I think the ride-ons are fine. If you just want to keep the grass down, then I would recommend either a tractor and topper, or sheep!!

Hello Paul What sort of prices are you talking for these ride-on mowers? Two hectares is a lot to cut, it may be worth your while looking at a secondhand full sized tractor with a 1.5-1.8 meter topper. You would be surprised how cheap some of these old tractors can be    

We had Capricorns, as well as the usual woodworm in our house in the Limousin. I sprayed everything, and although I'm no expert, all seemed fine afterwards. Note I said spray, not paint, as it gets deeper into all the cracks and splits in the wood. Sometimes I think these companies tend to prey on your fears, and charge a fortune. Having said that, products like xylophene aren't cheap.

You could of course treat the wood yourself with xylophene or something similar. It's a messy job, but much cheaper
