  1. If you look in the achive of this forum (botton top left) or search on "green" ticking the achive box you will find a posting which has links to the French Frederation and a list of clubs. In the UK I have seen lanes down which you could walk or in other parts of the World would drive down in a car wrecked in a few months but apparently the French Federation is taking a more responsible view.
  2. My reading was that they were going to stop investing in new analogue film development as opposed to stopping production. Not surprising in view of growth of digital and chemical limits on how much further analogue film can go. Announcement seems to have come via heavy end of financial press rather than being controlled by their marketing department. Extract below was from aphtography web site read on a German Web Site (http://www.spiegel.de, alas only in German) that Kodak has today announced that they will stop investing in new film products. Kodak has decided to invest "several billion dollars" into the development of digital products and decided to drop the budgets for developing new analog film products. So what wevwe got today is what we will keep...unless of course they fail all the way. Apprently sales have been receding for the past four _years_ as digital photography took its share. The share price has suffered to the tune of a 70% loss. Kodak had hoped that the growth of developing markets like China would compensate for the losses in Europe and the US. But this seems to have been wrong, they seem to jump directly into the digital arena. The German article is based on an article in Thursdays Wall Street Journal, apparently there are high risks with this new strategy, mainly that the digital camera market is already well carved up between companies like HP, Canon, Sony and Seiko-Epson. If this goes wrong apparently than that would be it for Kodak altogether, because their financial situation is precarious and Moody rating agency has repeatedly lowered their credit ratings.
  3. Everything but the squeak. I have seen it as an ingredient in sausages, pates, confits and galatines, never seen it as a dish in its own right.
  4. As you had had and been paying for the box for over twelve months you can cancel without them either seeking to reposses the box and dish. However unless you want to also loose ITV1,C4 and C5 it is probably a good idea to sort out the FTV card for these in advance.
  5. Did you try one at a time to check you had the leads properly pushed in and seated ? Tried a cheap lead on my cheap portable in France and could only make it work satisfactorily by turning either digibox or video player off completely ( unplugging not just in standby) . Detailed explanation of why this is on Satcure site below. ( NB my digibox now has a two pole switch in its lead so that I can isolate it to reboot without unplugging ) Assuming you have a sky digibox and do not also have a VCR have you tried using a scart from the DVD to the VCR in socket on the digibox then a scart from the digibox to the TV ? If you really want to switch sources without unplugging then switched boxes a described on Satcure site will do the job. The satcure site also explains some of the problems of using linked scarts and proposes some solutions involving cutting individual pins in the scarts http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/scartext.htm http://www.mailgate.org.uk/uk/uk.media.home-cinema/msg83038.html
  6. Very interesting and great news for the familly. What a very wasteful both in time and emotion system though.
  7. The last time skew was metioned was in Satellite dish angle of elevation thread which is now on page 2 of this forum. There is a lot of detail in there about finding the screw to enable the LNB to be adjusted once you wade through the invective. The calculator for skew based on logitude and latitude was first posted by Mazan. There is more detail on how to adjust Skew in marginal areas on the second link. http://www.smw.se http://homepage.ntlworld.com/de.sullivan/#meter
  8. Welcome to the forum, link below gives details of how to subscribe http://www.free2view.tv You will need somebody in UK to pay, using UK address on debit or credit card and forward card to you. Search icon ( spy glass on page) at top of forum willfind lots more detail about this.
  9. Typical French website very flash very complex to navigate. Click on the route, then select The Route in Flash when it has stopped drawing the route there are buttons to the left which will describe the route day by day. If you know exactly the area ;local tourist office may have advice /leaflets already available. http://www.letour.fr/2004/presentationus/profil10.html http://www.letour.fr/2004/presentationus/parcours_flash2.html
  10. That posting really terrified me. It is close to coming to with a wooden head in Objeck and discovering you accepted the offer of a 12 year commission in the Foreign Legion as a quartermaster. As Mazan pointed out I cannot tell the difference between an invoice and a postman. The idea of having to transcribe dictation in the language in which you are being taught, and is meant to be the first language of the school, is very scary. How often does it come up in the school week ? I can remember it as part of most lessons in every language I ever learnt but never in English at school. The only things I can suggest is the old Linguaphone business course which was spoken very clearly and very slowly and did come with a translation. BBC World Service French language programmes were both well pronounced and sufficiently slow that you stood a sporting chance with them. FFL CD roms in most of the supermarkets seem worth try or even the standard French CD roms for schools children ?
  11. Suggestions only : Check that there are no other flaps covering any more controls. Check there is not very small button to press in. Borrow any remote with a set up button and see if that works. Carefully unplug the TV and count to 10, Plug in and switch on but hold down both or even all four of the up and down buttons. Till you get to set up menu, one pair of buttons may scroll through options, the second scrolls through the choices at each option. Set up the universal remote for your TV and methodically try each of the function buttons. Set up the Sky remote for your TV and methodically try each of the function buttons on that. Do a search in the web using the model number and Schneider and see if there are any rebadged models. Try firm below for actual Schneider remote or advice. http://www.healeyremotes.co.uk/
  12. Thanks - we ended up agreeing 50 donation to Children in Need as French based friends insisted on paying something and UK friends would not accept anything for it. Hope I can find somewhere to install it which does not involve standing on a ladder.
  13. What do you think is a reasonable price for second hand digibox, dish and LNB ? Friends in UK are moving house and upgrading to Sky plus. Friends in France want box for FTA and radio. Neither of them have a view on price and I would appreciate some independent view.
  14. In view of earlier warnings about snow and current heavy rain further South has anybody any views on the likely weather between 20th December and 4th January ? Forecasts only seem to give five days ahead. I have dug out the thermals and moon boot.
  15. For what it is worth . I believe Sarlat is 44.5 North and 0.25 East which I hope yields 30.3 degrees of elevation and 36.7 East of South or 143.3 for direction. The 28.4 is the notional position above the equator therefore as you move further south and to a lessor extent further west so the bearing at which you have aim the dish increases. For Euro 20 I would say a meter or bleeper was money well spent particularly at this time of year. Your spouse shouting : Nothing Better Same worse like a demented Golden Shot candidate is a recipe for divorce. In particular if you use anything bigger than a mini dish it is quite demanding to find the first signal. I have set up about half a dozen mini dishes over the years normally in under 15 minutes but the only 80 cm dish I set up without a meter took almost an hour.
  16. Did anybody else notice 2 or 3 replies to this disappear ? Did not seem anything contentious. Performance is FTA therefore no different to BBC4 for an advertising point of view.
  17. >Are the remains of this significantly different to the Roman remains found in Britain? I think gallo-romain identifies the time and culture in the sameway as Roman Britain. As a total lay person I found the Roman remains in Morroco were amazingly like those in Bath. Have you been watching the programme on building a replica Roman Villa on Discovery Sat TV ?
  18. One legal point almost all DVDs or Videos specifically forbid lending for reward in their conditions of sale. The rights holders charge Blockbuster etc. a lot more money for the copies they are allowed to rent out
