  1. In the u.k. I believe we use hogging to raise the floor level before concreting! What material do the french use? I have been told that grade 006 sable is used! Is this so.
  2. We run a chambre d'hote and for three years have been making the beds daily including cleaning the bathroom and washing up the cups and saucers. We treated ourselves this year to two weekend breaks at different 'luxurious b/b's' On our return each day neither chambre d'hote had made the beds or washed the cutlery and topped up the coffee or milk...in fact one had no tea or coffee facilities in the room! One was British owned the other Danish, 18 euros more than us per night! perhaps I should try French next time? So what is expected of our guests? Am I creating work for myself? http://www.le-tilleul.com

  4. Help.......my two year old oleander leaves have suddenly gone yellow, well not all of them! What type of soil does it require? we decided to repot it and the roots were a little pot bound. Can not find much information in any of the gardening books. The flowers are plentiful.
  5. Arriving in France in August 2001 without healthcover, not knowing that the form E111 was of use to us. We contacted Newcastle one year later for the form E120 (I think) which covered 80% until January 2004. A company from Bordeaux contacted us to ask if we would consider their top up insurance I did not realise that the attestation de droits form had run out! So we were told by lassurance maladie that as we had a gite we should contact the chambre of commerce immediately. The forms arrived within days and we duly paid our fees to the C.O.C. We do not speak fluent French so did not fully understand all the forms. They gave us a choice of three assurance companies, we chose m.m.a. because they were in Niort. Within days we had received from the Greffe du Tribunal 6 duplicate copies of a titulaire de limmatriculation with a siret no. We have filled our tax forms in under the micro business and pay no tax. The following day we have received a la retraite complementaire. Not sure on this one? Question being are we insured? Do we contact m.m.a. or do they contact us? If so, is it for the top up insurance or what? We are in our 40s.
  6. Yes I do know someone in the Poitou Charentes. Email me for further information. Maria
  7. Many people said last year was the worse year for bookings yet we managed 26. Saying that I do know personally of 6 gites up for sale this year! So far we have 20 weeks. We are further south than Normandy and Brittany in Poitou Charentes. Bonne Chance http://www.le-tilleul.com
  8. We moved to the Poitou Charentes 2001 and run a chambre d'hote and gite. The bookings have far exceeded our original expectations. Fortunately we are situated between La Rochelle and Poitiers so ideal for the many house hunters that are exploring this area. http://www.le-tilleul.com
  9. Hi, we are 50 mins drive from the centre of Cognac. Many of our gite guests stayed with us because of the shortage of gites in the Cognac area especially out of season. bonne chance http://www.le-tilleul.com
  10. On the subject of charging euros for accomodation or evening meals. I charge 35 per night and 12 for evening meal. Recently a few guests have queried the bill because the euros stated were at the rate 6 months ago when I printed the invoices. Their question was that the exchange rate today is ???? At one time the charge was 57 euros now it's about 50! Should I stick to a fixed charge or adjust accordingly? Also how easy it is apply for a euro cheque in England?
