  1. If you can get in, visit the restaurant du dungeon next to the market. Great value and good food. Or if you fancy going a bit up market, also near the market up towards the mairie vist the table des saveurs. Would join you if I could but half hour away and busy with viewing for the house.
  2. Visited today and the letter was apparently sent to me by mistake. Thanks for the replies.
  3. It was registered in the first year.....then deregistered to a microbic.....which it still is....with a siret number.
  4. Received our first 'appel de cotisations premier trimestre' and they require 2,976 euros by 5th of Feb???? We have run gites for 9 years........filled out tax forms each year......only difference....last year our carte vitale run out and after endless paperwork......we were issued with a new one. However, can anyone explain why with no prior notice why we have recieved this and how did they arrive at the figure? Will be going to RSI next week to investigate but perhaps some kind person could explain. (have no income other than from gites)
  5. If  someone offered me a free ticket with air india.........I WOULD NOT GO![+o(][+o(][+o(]
  6. Went to a vide late last year at Monjean near Sauze Vaussais, may have been October! For a small village did not expect much....but we spent most of the day there as it was huge. Anybody know the exact date.
  7. In France....it is the customer that is always wrong! A new site http://charenterestaurants.forumup.co.uk is worth visiting if you live in Poitou Charentes and want to tell people your good and bad experiences. I think it is a myth that the french are the best chefs.
  8. In our 8th year....about the same as last year 32 weeks between the two gites. Will never see the 44 weeks taken during the years of the 'rush to move here syndrome'. Had to accept one week bookings though during peak period as guests have reduced their time over here. Gave up b/b four years ago after we renovated the barn conversion.
  9. Yes we do for our guests in our gites. At first it was wi-fi but with walls being so thick we have now opted for ethernet.  A lot of work burying all the cables in the ground and not cheap to hire someone to install the box. 85% of guests bring their laptop with them on holiday.
  10. I am not saying I will not go again as I have enjoyed all of the bands, I have been from day one. However I have not had a reply from Gilles? Glad that you have and look forward to September onwards.[8-|]
  11. that's the kiddy!........but why just this year?
  12. No photograph though! I have been fishing out of my pool an insect that looks like a bee but in the middle of the head has one pointed antenna or like a humming bird hawkmoth the long thing that they pollinate flowers with? I managed to save many of them from drowning with the net. First time ever in 8 years of living here have I seen them! Looked up in books but to no avail. Also saw one on a buttercup in a friends garden and another friend said it was the first time she had seen them.......one for you Chris?
  13. I am English, I like the Brits, I love having conversations that I can understand but I would not live in Chef Boutonne because of the huge amount of expats living there. We gave up chambre d'hote three years ago because to be honest it was only house hunters that stayed with us and they are pretty rare these days. I would not suggest gites either, not because I own two but it is saturation point in this area. Many retired folk live there because of the doctors, dentist, hairdressers, vets, cafes, boulongeries, ect so it does attract many househunters. Being young (you not me) I would suggest living near to Niort or Poitiers for entertainment. bonne chance
  14. Last night we went to Javersay Chateau at Chef Boutonne, looking forward for months to see two bands, both blues.... Fanatic Puppets and Blues Power Band. Neither turned up, no announcement or apologies from the organisers.  A band did play with the organiser playing the drums....but it was not blues?  Were they allowed to accept our money? Most evenings are very good and the crowd stay till well after midnight but very early people were leaving. I have just emailed him and wonder if I will get a reply?.... I did get the blues!
  15. Oh is going to lay concrete for floor. Does anyone know how much the ready mix would cost? Last time he mixed it up his self but fancies the easy option this time.
  16. Betoulle has many years experience working with MRI scanners. I am sure she will not mind you sending a private message. Bonne Chance.
  17. Yes it is! Have been three times. The weather is normally fantastic and even if you do not like motorcars (like my mum) even she enjoyed it albeit rather noisy for someone who is over 80. Best day is Sunday unless you are a real engine head like OH. Like a mini Monaco...yes we have been there! Plenty of restaurants open and bars on the day. Price is very reasonable something like 15 euros for the entrance. About 15th of September.
  18. Take it or leave it, but dont expect them to produce something they dont know. I only drink Earl Grey without milk so never ask for English tea! Why open a salon de the if you can not even warm a pot?[:(]
  19. Un creme? I shall try asking for that and see if it works, however in 7 years of asking different establishments sometimes they only have two size cups...the expresso size and the very large. Sometimes they give me the large cup but with just one shot of black and I fill up the rest with milk.  Why do I take the flask of black coffee?...I prefer black coffee..but if I order in a cafe it makes a change, and sometimes the coffee is so bl***y strong!  As for being unreasonable? If I go in to a salon de the.....I expect a decent cup of tea....not with a bag of tasteless tea that resembles  the contents of an ashtray! As for explaining or for that matter complaining if I do not get what I have requested? Have you ever tried to complain in France.....a line from a film I saw recently, Russel Crowe said "remember in France...the customer is always wrong"[:D]
  20. Absolutely fed up with ordering coffee and not getting what I want...ask for a petite cafe creme and often it is served up in a thimble. Sometimes there is no choice between the thimble size and a huge cup. Often the milk is served cold. Often the coffee is cold. Cups have been sent back because of cracks and stains. As for tea....don't even start me there....how difficult is it to provide a pot...that has been prewarmed....and with tea leaves? So I am going to take a flask of filtered coffee (black) and save myself £2.00-£3.50....yes I still think in ££££s after all these years. and will have a decent cup of tea on my return.
  21. Emailed you, Ethernet connection so no problems with the thick walls!
  22. Many thanks Betoulle for the very informative email, and thanks to everyone else. [:D]
