1.   Our pool heater has stopped working.  We suspect that it may be a gas problem. Does anyone know of anyone near the 24800 Thiviers area that could fix our heater? Thanks Email  [email protected]
2. I've just seen proof of the scam, so it is definately a scam and not to be trusted. The text that seems common to his emails is roughly this with names, addresses and numbers changed in each one. I hope this information is useful to others. This is the one I received... "Bonjour Mr / Mme , J'accuse bonne réception de votre mail et je trouve votre maison très chic et bien approprié pour moi , ma femme et mes enfants. 3. I would never have handed out any personal information. Sadly, far too old for that nonsense. My website does not feature my name, address or private email address. I created an email address to accept any house sale enquiries. I will need - hopefully if it sells - a notaire and would expect him to arrange any payments. But I don't want to get into protracted correspondance with a scammer not waste money putting a notaire on the case for no good reason. I know an immobilier would be simpler, but adding their fees to our required house price would, I fear price the house right out of the current market.

He also supplied name, address, birth details of wife and himself, marriage details and contact number. These may be his details or may not be. Anyone's guess!
5. Hi all We have just tested the website I've been making to sell our home, by placing a preliminary advert on PEF and Vivastreet. We have had two emails from a person in the Ivory Coast. He has now said that he wants to buy the house, send a 10 percent deposit (into our bank account!) and complete in September. I have not spoken with this man or his family, nor has he visited the house. The website is pretty comprehensive but a straight sale like this? What does anyone think? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks       .
6. Hi All Does anyone know where to buy an inexpensive plastic, burger press in the Perigueux area? I love to make my own burgers but I'm fed up with the hand shaping sticky part of the operation. This sort of thing  http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/product/10481_10501 Thanks

Lamb Shanks

I see them occasionally in supermarkets (Perigueux).  I bought the only one they had in LeClerc in Riberac yesterday. It'll join the other carefully gathered ones I buy as I see. 'Souris'  (hope that is correct) do seem pretty rare here though.
8.
... Where I live there is a Greek shop in Perigueux that sells everything.
What and where exactly in Perigueux please?
... Do a search for Greek shops in France...
Google didn't want to play. Thanks

Pappadoms

Hi Can anyone please point me to shop between Perigueux & Nontron area selling Pappadoms? Not ready cooked but plain uncooked ones in a 10 pack. I did buy some over here but have forgotten where!  Age is a terrible thing  [:$] Thanks
10. Hi John Thanks so much for your post. You would not believe it, but, my husband has just entered the kitchen with a big smile calling "It's Working!". We suspect that the problem may have been either a fantastically large spider's web inside the heat pump, and a fair bit of dirt, all just discovered and removed, or the air temperature may have been just under 7 degrees. Still uncertain but it's running now. Thank you for your time in replying.
11. Can anyone help with how to get our heat pump to start? It s simply refuses to start and  indicates an error. Before calling in the experts, can anyone tell us what to try first? Thanks in advance.

Soil Wanted

Does anyone know of any garden soil for sale near Thiviers 24800 area? I'd put a card in the local supermarche but am not confident enough to get the wording correct. Is it sol or terre vegetal?
13. Hello Thanks for the information. I really did want to buy an outfit here but had to travel urgently to UK. So, I'm just back having bought my outfit in Palmers in Great Yarmouth Well, the Jacques Vert jacket, top and fascinator. Lovely :-) I got the bottom bits at Ronde et Vous (one of the shops Trellisacs Carrefour complex). Just lovely tops in there but that's for another time  ;-)  Shoes and bag online from Emotion. So all done!  *Sigh* Thanks again Lisleoise
14. Hello All Help! My daughter is getting married at Easter and I need to buy a nice 'mother of the bride' type outfit. Can anyone point me towards any likely shops?  Everything I'm seeing in Perigueux seems rather dark and gloomy. I'm happy to visit shops south as far as Bergerac and north as far as Limoges. Has anyone any ideas? Thank you.
15. I wondered if anyone could recommend a good painter & decorator for the exterior painting of our house near Thiviers? Must be registered, insured etc. Thank you.
16. Hello I have managed to log in today for the first time in a long while. I lost my login information, so I couldn't respond in any way. Temporary passwords did not work as I didn't even know my forum name - I belong to many! We did find two gentle, lovely and sweet people to mind our dear little dog in their beautiful home, and she was very happy with them. Thank you for your private mail.  I didn't and don't know about private mail on this site and therefore, unfortunately, didn't see your reply. Why private mail on this topic anyway? Forgetful I may be but never, ever, deliberately rude. I was brought up to be polite and considerate. So, even in the anonymity of internet forums where aggression, sniping and intolence is rife, I do not attack. That would be rude, wouldn't it? Thank you again.
17. Hi We're searching for a holiday-home-from-home for our little King Charles Spaniel. We've asked before and got fixed up wonderfully. Unfortunately, the person who responded then has become ill and has had to move. So, does any one know someone who can mind our little lady for a week from 21st October? She's gentle and sweet but a house with loads of boisterous dogs wouldn't suit her I'm afraid. Anyone out there? Thank you
18. cooperlola said "The two tax forms you need are 2042 and 2047 - you can download "blanks" HERE but do wait until the '07 ones come up as the old ones are still showing at the mo'."   I can't see form 2047 to download .  At least in no way similar to last years form. Husband now hitting head against wall.   Edited to add that I finally got through to someone and a form will be sent in the post.  Edited it yet again to say I've found it!!!!!!  See http://www.impots.gouv.fr/portal/deploiement/p1/fichedescriptiveformulaire_4489/fichedescriptiveformulaire_4489.pdf
19.   Good Lord! It's enough to put one off owning anything here! All we wanted was to be able to buy a house that we may have fallen in love with, before selling this one.
20. Thanks for the responses everyone. The thing is, we want to buy another house for our old(ish) age requirements and are in a position to get another one, I couldn't stand moving out to a rental and then move again.  We've yet to finish unpacking boxes from coming here 4 years ago  [:)] We just want to keep out of the tax/capaital gains traps.
21. I wasn't sure quite where to post this, but here goes. We own a house here in France. We live here fulltime, pay all taxes here etc and this is our only property. We are thinking of buying our next house, one that will be a little easier for us, at our age, to manage, garden and slope-wise. If we do buy another house now before selling this one, what sort of pickle tax-wise etc can we expect to get ourselves into. Should we:- Not bother buying before we sell Buy to rent until we sell Own two houses, one for living in and one for renting out as a bit of an income Any friendly advice would be most appreciated. Thanks
22. I missed this thread too. I can't really help with your query but greetings to the IOM which looked pretty as a picture last week when we went 'home' for a few days. Anyone got any tales to tell of their experiences going over the bridge?  http://artofdesign.wordpress.com/2006/11/01/the-millau/  We're going that way next month. Should I be nervous? http://artofdesign.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/millau_fosterweb2.jpg
23. Look out for tins of Lait Concentre Non Sucre Entier available almost everywhere. I use it in creamed potatoes.  Yummy.
24. Hi Pouyade We travelled here with our two dogs - one of 7 years and one of 17 years old - on an overnight sailing and we left the dogs in the car.  They had their own travel cages with bedding water and food in each, plus the window left open a crack. The person in charge of the parking told us that he'd check  the dogs and contact our cabin if any problems during the sailing. There were no problems and the dogs were happier in their beds than they would ever have been in a kennel. Our doggie travel kit also included nappy changing mats, nappy sacs etc.  None were needed we're delighted to say. Good luck
25. The Isle of Man had one circulating a couple of years ago. It brought many smiles.   A major earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale hit Pulrose in the early hours of Tuesday 23rd September 2003. The epicentre was Elm Avenue. Casualties were seen wandering aimlessly saying "bang out of order", "mental", and "that did my head in". The earthquake decimated the area, causing an estimated £17 worth of damage. Several priceless collections of mementos from Ibiza and Corfu were damaged beyond repair. Three preserved areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed. Many locals were woken well before their giros arrived. Hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered, they are still trying to come to terms with the fact that the damage was caused by something other than themselves. One resident, Kelly Sharon Quayle, pregnant 14 year old mother of three, said "It was a shock, little Chardonnay-Leigh came running through the cardboard door into my  bedroom crying. My youngest two, Tyler-Brooklyn and Kai-Keanu slept through it all. My hands were shaking that much, I could hardly shoot up when I was watching Tricia this morning". Another resident, 'Mally' said that the earthquake would not stop him from going to work, after all the burglaries and graffiti would not do themselves. The British Red Cross have so far managed to ship 4,000 crates of "Sunny Delight" to the area to help with the crisis. Rescue workers are sifting through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings, which include benefit books, jewellery from Samuels, bone china from Moochers and a number of Index catalogues. How can you help? This appeal hopes to raise enough money for food and clothing parcels for those unfortunate enough to be caught up in the catastrophe. Clothing is most sought after. Most needed are Kappa tracksuits (his and hers), white socks to tuck the tracksuit bottoms into, Burberry caps, woolly "Benny" hats and Reebok trainers. Clothing from "What shop" is most welcome. Food parcels are also needed. They should include McCains Micro chips, HP beans, Monster Munch crisps, Nutella chocolate spread and Iceland Pizzas. Alcohol is also in short supply, mainly Lambrini, White Lightning cider and Carlsberg Special Brew. Cash donations are also needed, 22p buys a Bic Biro for signing-on, £1-50 buys chips and cheese, and £26 buys 200 Bensons from "Tony" who has just got back from Kavos.
