1. Thanks 11 - firstly for having the same problem, so nice not being alone (or the complete dolt I had assumed I was) and secondly for the France telecom English speaking helpline number. I've made a note of it and will try that if the techno wizards on here can't help. Perhaps I should say I have a Windows XP laptop, the wanadoo eXtense modem and everything was set up with the disc. There's not a hope of me 'bypassing' wanadoo and configuring anything manually, so I've got to stick with the wanadoo software - there must be a way of solving this seconday email problem, other people have more than one wanadoo email address!
2.
The original problem is covered on Wanadoo's site, it is usually the result of an problem with an upgraded version of Outlook (I think 6); there is a "cure" which can be downloaded directly from the s...
I am surprised and delighted to find this thread - I thought it was my computer idiocy that was causing my problems. Hopefully one of the wonderful techno people on here can help me. I have wanadoo ASDL. I too have the problem of the password logging on/creating new account when I log on - but the new account always disappears when I shut down OE, so I can live with that (irritating but managable). I've spent hours in the wanadoo help pages, I've downloaded the 'cure', tried to download it again when there was no change but my computer told me I already had it, so I gave up on that problem. My REAL problem is I desperately need to set up a second email address at wanadoo (I know I can have four) but wanadoo won't let me! Whether I go into Configuration to do it, or into Mon Compte in wanadoo.fr, when I click onto Create a new message box I get the Error message: "Sorry, you are trying to access a page reserved for wanadoo account holders". A French friend who also has wanadoo ASDL has tried to help me (over the phone) but he cannot work out why I'm having the problem - on his computer he gets the Error message when he's signed in as one of the secondary users, but not when he's signed in as the principle person. I am logging in with the email address I started with (ie the principle user, the only email address I've got) and with the original password wanadoo issued to me (I haven't changed it). I can get everything else in my account, all my personal details, bank account etc, but can't create another email address. I wrote to wanadoo, they explained about only the principle user creating a new account (which is what I thought I was, and what I was doing) and they've given me a phone number for technical help - the trouble is my French is not good enough for a technical help phone call. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong? And what I can do to solve it? What is the McAfee that Pucette hadn't configured properly? Could that be my problem? As you will have gathered, my computer knowledge is very basic, so any help has to be in simple language please! Here's hoping, with all fingers and toes crossed.....
3. Hi everybody - it's been ages since I visited and everything has changed! I did pop on a little while ago when I got the LF email saying I had to re-register with a new password because the forum had been updated, but didn't stay for a look around then. Now that I have found the time for a proper look at the revamped site, I quite like it, but I'm having a bit of navigation trouble. My question, if anyone can help, is what has happened to my old private message box? I went to look for my messages (timespan = since the beginning) and it's saying there are none at all, zero messages. Now, I know that isn't right cos I had about six in there last time I checked and I now need one of them cos I've lost a phone number and it's in one of those messages! I changed my email from Tiscali to Wanadoo a while ago, does that mean I've lost all the messages I got under the Tiscali registration? All help gratefully received. PS - I'd just like to add something about the English Club in Montlucon (see post before mine)- it's a brilliant club, with really friendly French and English people. We go regularly and can't praise it enough - We've made some fine French and English friends there and we look forward to our social get-togethers (and our French is improving heaps!). It's not an 'ex-pat' club - I know the idea of that can put people off - and I can only suggest that English people who live within reasonable distance of Montlucon should try it one evening (first friday of the month is the most popular night)
4. First question - We are looking for Emmaus 'shops'. We live in Jarnages, 15k East of Gueret. We know the Emmaus shop in Montlucon, and also another one further north (about an hour and a half drive away) but wonder if there are others any closer to us? We've tried the Emmaus website (lots of info but no apparent shop info that I could make out) and they don't appear to be in Yellow Pages. So if anyone within an hour or so of Gueret knows of an Emmaus, we'd be really grateful for the address. 2nd Question - Tried to find out above with a 'second hand' search in the Forum, and got half a dozen matches. I clicked on the first one, then tried to go back to the list of matches to look at the next one and got a "post not cached" blank page. Had to go right back to the beginning and do the same search all over again - this happened four times and then I got fed up keep waiting for it to re-search every time and gave up. What is the proper way to search to stop that happening? All replies gratefully received!
5. Wow, a question I can answer - I must be settling in now!! Mr Bricolage sell them, they are manufactured by Extel and are in black and yellow blister packs. They have a UK computer connection one end and a french telephone connector socket at the other end (on the packet it says "For telephones American" but are exactly what you need). I have also seen them in the larger Carrefours. We bought one and it works perfectly. Cheers Lesley
6. Thanks v much for the messages of help and sympathy! Those kind enough to read my cry for help will be pleased to know I've managed to sort out the disconnection "critical error" problem - and I feel such a dolt. There was another 'click' button on the dial up box, which I thought was irrelevant, but in desperation I looked it up in my dictionary - and found it means to break off! So I was clicking on fermer when I should have been clicking on interrompre! Now I can disconnect with no more critical error messages! But thanks for the advice Mazan, I will look up your past post on setting up a manual dialer in windows - I do try to learn as I go along even though I find computer technology so very hard to comprehend! Thanks again.
7. Need technical help please! I am not very clever with computers but need the internet for work, so all help appreciated. I have one minor and one major problem! Recently moved in, connected to Internet thru my existing UK AOL line (which I'll be cancelling soon) and went to the Tiscali site to subscribe to the unlimited 24.99 euros a month. It did not go smoothly, and I shed many tears of despair and frustration trying to talk to "technical support" - but I did eventually manage to get on-line, and I'm now getting on to the internet with only a minor problem - which is that after connection, I do not get an automatic screen appear, I have to launch Internet Explorer (on which I've made tiscali the home page) and I get into it that way. With AOL, I just double-click the icon, and then sign on to connect. I have a Tiscali icon but clicking on it does nothing. (When I boot up, the tiscali dialer comes up automatically) Problem two - the major one - I can't disconnect!! I click the tiscali symbol (bottom right corner), the dialer comes up, I click Fermer, and the wording of the dialer changes, so it looks as if I am offline, but I am still connected! A Microsoft CRITICAL ERROR message box then comes up - the error message reads "Destroy Window Error Get last error returned 1400" No matter what or how much I click after that, the dialer box and the error box come up alternately, and I stay connected. So I have to shut down the computer to end the connection. I cannot bear the thought of dealing with Tiscali technical support again, so please can anyone offer an explanation / solution? I think it may have something to do with not downloading the tiscali programme properly (the dialer link I'm using was manually set up by me with instruction from technical support) Here's hoping... Thanks, lesley
