  1. Phil, Thanks for trying to solve our problem! It does seem complicated to get it registered in France and we think their best bet might well be to take the caravan back to the U.K. Cheers, Dotty
  2. Sid, Thank you so much for your reply! I think I'm going to tell our friends it would be better to sell the caravan in the U.K. It does seem far more complicated to sell it here! Cheers, Dotty
  3. Caravan registration in France Can someone help us? Our friends have a Dethleffs caravan that they would like to sell in France, but the caravan was bought in Belgium and has British plates/ registration! Our friends who are getting on a bit would like to sell this hardly ever -used caravan , but have been told that to sell it in France, where it is in storage at the moment 'chez nous', the caravan must have a 'carte grise'! To get this 'carte grise'  , it needs to be taken to 14200 Hérouville St Clair, near Caen, for it to conform to norme NFS 56200 ''a gas conformity). We only have French plates and can therefore not tow it there for them, and they are now in the U.K. for the foreseeable future. Is there any way round this problem?

  5. Many thanks again, Ron. My husband suggested this was a good idea! Also, I sometimes check my 'facture' by going on the France Telecom site!
  6. Thanks, Ron for your reply and sorry I hadn't realised you'd already wrote about it! The reply that Baz gave:  A final suggestion to be absolutely safe is to remove your phone plug from it socket when not using the internet. Baz seems a very good idea, and this is what I think we'll do in future! Good news that Broadband is coming to us all, although I must admit, that on the whole we're quite happy with the snail-pace!! Thanks again, Dotty
  7.  Does anybody know if the problem exists in France, of your computer being hijacked by a file that connects through premium rates, costing you a fortune in phone-bills? There has been a lot on T.V. and radio in England about this problem, attacking computers that are not on broadband! As we live in the back of beyond, Broadband is not an option. Am I worrying for nothing...as usual! Dotty (Happy Christmas!)

  9. Thank for all your help. We did get Philippe (our helper of the past), to get rid of Service Pack 2, but the only way he could do this was to re-set the calendar 2 days. He said it was probably because the security was too strong!! Don't know whether we'd be capable of seeing to such ourselves, and that is why your advice about who to see will be very useful. Won't go near SP2 for some time, but thanks Mark, for your advice! The computer sort of 'froze' twice again yesterday, and this is what was worrying me. Tried contacting Wanadoo, by letter, when we lost Internet, but no replies! Anyway, so glad I contacted the forum! Dotty
  10. We've been having a few problems with our computer lately!A few days ago we tried to install a Windows update, XP Service Pack 2, and as a result, couldn't get on Internet, send or receive e-mail. We have a freiend who has helped us with computer problems in the past, but because he's in a full-time job and his wife is ill, we were wondering if anyone in the Avranches area could help us in an emergency! Yesterday and today again, the computer 'froze' and didnt seem to want to do anything! It seems to be when Securitoo (anti-virus) tries to look in! When these kind of things happen, it makes me very worried an I'm in a bad mood! If someone could help, it would be brilliant!
  11. My friend has got an English computer and needs to buy a telephone adaptor for it. Can you help, please? We live in Avranches in La Manche. Sorry if this question has been asked several times before, but we're new users!
