  1. Hi Its to do with the motorways, police stopping lorries that are going Dover/Calais (i think) if there is a problem at the ports,so that the other traffic is flowing. Not sure on the legal side but here is another site www.doverport.co.uk they have traffic news as well as the ferry stuff.
  2. Hi, If you have a Nationwide credit card, you will no longer get cashback from buying goods aboard, letter today stated that: 'we will no longer pay cash rewards on transactions made abroard, or made with retailers that are registered outside the UK' So bang goes all the little extras that this was making up, is there anyone out there who has a similar sort of card that we could change too? We always spend quite a lot doing up the house, materials, tools etc, plus all the booze we bring back. That was one of the reasons for taking this card on, as well as a good exchange rate.
  3. Hi Just heard on the traffic news 11 45 am UK time, that the stack has come back onto the M20. Check your routes as I do not anymore but the AA/BBC Trafic news should give more details.
  4. HI Think you need a license, not sure though, I'll use the search, this came up on an earlier similar question. www.prospection.net/juridique_detection_de_metaux/interdictions.html  found this, hope it helps marym
  5. Hi Looking at the Screwfit web site I wondered if it was available in France (Kingfisher and all that) I have been searching for 'speedfix' in this forum, but no mention has come up (also tried pushfit same also). Is there the same product out there? Otherwise its down to getting out my old plumbing gear (pump up blowlamp and lead sweaters). As its much easier and quicker, done a few jobs here with it, I hope to find similar materials, if only for the temporary jobs they will be needed for. Thanks Mary
  6. Hi Found a lot of articles on this subject, so far I have come up with a product call 'Mute Tone' has anyone seen this on sale? Lots of people have been buying these as it seems that more people are getting fed up with inconsiderate people who disregard others. Marym
  7. Hi Yes I've seen that site, along with a good few others. The new ideas are a sandwich of nickel-zinc ferrite between plywood which stops the signals. so unless I can see a jammer for under the rip off price of £170+ i'll be making one of them to go and see a film. Any sites out there in French? marym
  8. Hi Just read an article about mobile phone jammers and the french cinema, it seems that they have relaxed the laws on banning them. A few weeks ago the Sunday Times did a feature on someone in Scotland who was getting around the law by selling them with the warning that they cannot be used in the UK. My reason is that I WANT ONE!  This is for the pictures as many times the pleasure has been spoiled  by these people who do not have the sense to turn them off when they enter and therefore when many moments have been lost I seen to fume, worse still is where I live in the UK is that people seem to stand outside and shout into there mobiles, and this is over the other side of the road. Anyone got one? Marym
  9. Hi I have been on the site a few times this morning and I have just booked, so its now working (for me anyway) marym
  10. Hi Being keen on a good deal we have manage to avoid all high prices this year and the most that we paid is around £100, and that was in the begining of the year, and we have travelled a few times. We used Speedferries at the begining of the month for the first time ( £50 return  and found the journey to be most pleasant. As it took us a few hours longer to drive, and we avoided most tolls, it was about a £200+ differance then the 'pirates' (£480 quoted best deal from brit ferries) As always its best to trawl the net to find deals, and as I don't mind the drive, get some 'cigs and baccy' we will be happy to carry on using them.
  11. Hi As we have a old Bulter sink and the sink in the house is quite grotty, we are thinking of bringing it over and using that. Has anyone done this and fixed one here, and if so did they use french fittings or bring them from England? Thanks
  12. Hi Quote from the Guardian: A spokesman for Universal Music France said the singer, France's best-known playboy charmer through most of the 1960s and 70s, died "following a long illness", the standard French euphemism for cancer. He was 71. Heres just a couple of other things about him. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3918129.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3918621.stm http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/news/obituary/0%2C12723%2C1267605%2C00.html
  13. Hi News on BBC Sacha Distel He Died today aged 71. Bye Raindrops.
  14. Hi. Got a bit fed up with looking at Condors website last night, after being on for about 10 mins could not find the 'special' quoted, and when I did, took even longer to find out it was not avabile, so being in a grumpy mood and being annoyed at costs quoted, emailed them, this was the reply Good Morning Thanks for your email on the 7th July regarding your unfortunate experience whilst using our website. Our current website isn't as we would like and is presently under review. We do endeavour to implement a system, albeit at considerable cost, that will present the many many variations on routes, vehicles and passenger specifications in a clearer and more user friendly manner. I would like to state though that we do currently receive over 15,000 bookings online on all our routes throughout the year including those servicing our main Channel Islands routes and the Western Channel routes your email was concerned with. Regarding your statement concerning the alleged 'cartel' on pricing. I would just like to clarify one issue, Condor Ferries is the only ferry operator that publicise their fares within a brochure. Not only are they the most competitive on the Western Channel, not the Eastern channel where the alleged cartel has been investigated by the EU commission, but the service offered by Condor Ferries is in terms of our vessels and staff, widely revered throughout the industry as the benchmark for fast ferry operations. From time to time we do release special offers, these are regularly updated and can be found both in the national newspapers travel sections and also online within our 'special offers' section at Kind Regards, Chris Merrell Marketing Manager Condor Ferries (+44 (0)1202 207 236 * [email protected] Was I a bit out of order? Marym
  15. >There have been a couple of >postings advising that there are >people who arrange for "nearly >new" cars to be imported >from Germany or Belgium into >France. > >As far as I have seen, >nobody has posted the details >of any of these companies. >I've tried searching Yahoo for >information without success, so I'd >be really grateful (and I >think it would be useful >for others) if someone with >experience would be able to >post details here. > >Nick Hi. 16. Hi Coming over in a few weeks, got a single out for both (one's staying and ones flying back) but cannot find a good deal for one who's coming back on their own, looked at all the usual ( a ferry ferrysales etc)anyone got any recommendations, or shall I wait until nearer the departure day? I've checked all search on this site etc for singles and although we have only paid 39 out, the least price back, start from 130. Might as well drive to Calais and get a single back from there and stock up on tobacco and wine, Is the any sites on the French side that could help? All thoughts welcome Thanks
