1. Got back last week and I to was broke into. I was shattered after a long drive that when I saw the hold in the wall, I could not get my head around that we had had a breakin. Spent a while looking around see what had been stolen, still thinking now. Most of my power and hand tools have gone along with a power washer and large chop saw. What we also had stolen was all the fixture fixings plumbing electric etc. they even took the nails and screws. The locals near think it was a neighbour who has a reputiaton for stealing but we cannot put that in our insurance report, so now here i am trying to remember what we had. The worst part for us was that I gone to complete the final part of buying part of the house that we did not own before (semi now we are detached
2. Just back from the trip, the ferry cancelled that day caused me great prolems as I had an extra 5 hours added ( longer trip more rests ) this was the start of a nightmare week. arrived at the house only to find that some people/s had broke into the house and stole most of our tools and materials. Longer post  about this ( caught a jam for four hours return trip to London after the another wait for Transmanche to lower the ramps ) later.
3. Thanks for your help, now I can make them laugh as normally they do when I open my mouth! Marym
4. Sorry to go a bit off thread, but.after searching various posts about this problem of license's we received our tax foncier today with the adiuovisual bill and reading another post, we seem to have missed the question about having a TV on last years bill. however as the other half has taken the letter away to check on paying last year, my question is this, as we have not got a TV how do we get them to dismiss this bill? I will be going over next week and will pay the foncier at the tressor, but with my French class being stopped to make way for polish and arab  speaking classes I am a bit unsure of what to say. Any help out there? Thanks
5. Hi Yes I have fitted a PRV at the main feed. I also have a turn off point to the tank fron the cold feed. I have turned this off and have opened the hot water tap nearest the ballon. I did not get any water out after that, so is it ok to take out the faulty fitting and replace it or will I need to stilll drain down the ballon? Thanks Tim, I have emailed you. Marym
6. Thanks for your speedy reply, does this mean that I can replace the valve where the leak is without draining down? or do I have to drain the system down anyway.
7. Hi I have fitted a hot water heater, and have found that it group de securtie (spelling) drips constantly. I have tried various ways (turning down the inlet pressure etc) but it still drips, have I fitted it incorrectly, or does this nornmaly happen?  I have also a small leak and I cannot turn off the water unless I drain down the system, I turned off the cold water feed but when I tried to let the water out of the ballon, nothing happened. Am I doing something different from draining down like in England ?  as I will be going back soon and would like to fix the problem. Thanks  I hope I have explained but more info if questions are asked.
8. Hi Have no answer for you but maybe someone who answers your question could help me to sort out as I also have a plumming problem. Connected Ballon had a small leak, tried to tighten up but to no advil. problem as i have no direct stop between ballon and leak( it a stop valve that is leakng) cannot tighten it and relaised that I had not put a washer in, then the group secuity fitting started a small drip reduced pressure but still dripping(as well as the valve) Question do I have to drain down the ballon to fix leak as when i turned it off it the water stopped coming out of the taps.? As well as that I also have another problem, how tight do your group scurity valve be? as this also drips constantly now and I have tried various methods and there must be an easier way, or is it normal to drip?  Need to find out answers as we will be going over soon and this weather needs a good shower to go under and thats the next job. Thanks in advance.
9. Hi I am taking my new Laptop this week for the first time and would like to know some details of how to access the wifi network in Brittany, that is is it much different then here in England, as I use the free link all the time at home. Some lines near me allow free access. I am a bit computer literate so if i need to change settings etc i will be able to do that. I have been looking for hotspots but so far not a lot of luck The nearest to me is the hotel near Ploe'rmels Lake. So any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
10.
Hi Fumanzoku As I want to cancel Wanadoo in the New Year I have been following this thread with great interest. I have made a note of your comments and the email you received from Wanadoo and also noted the excellent site that Derf aka Les mentionned: ariase. Hopefully, armed with all this info, I might be able to cancel.  Sue
HI, just a quick note, I cancelled in September, (UK not France) slow speeds etc, and did not have a problem. I asked when I should cancel and was advised to let them know the day before my direct debit renewal/payment, as if cancelled before I would lose the days up to the payment date. The problem now is that I cannot acess my old email address, through my new pay as you go provider. I have tried my other email addres with them and no probs, but my subscribers email address has gone (and I have logged on every 1/2 weeks) any ideas?
11. I would say that if you can get a French Certificate of Conformity from the manufacturer's agents then it will definitely be worth it, particularly if it is of value to you. Is that simple? Thanks for your replies so far, its bit more postive then the feedback from insurers here etc, as we do not live there would that be a problem also ?
12. Hi We have a G reg nissan micra, and we are wondering whether to bring it over and re register it at our house. The question is, is it worth it ? We have been quoted nearly £400 insurance just for 3rd party Fire & Theft in England  and what with the road tax, that will bring it passed what the car is worth. As it has been in the family and was my first car, it holds sentimential value, and it will probably fetch only £4/500 if that here and thats if we can get a buyer, and as we know the history and it has not lets us down we are not sure what is the best option. Would it cost a lot to do the relevant things to get the car legal in France? I have read a lot of other postings regarding this and hope someone can give a clearer answer then the threads that I have seen. Thanks in advance.
13. Hi Friend of mine has asked about carp fishing and after giving him some info that I found here, is there more out there in Brittany? as we are going to swop work for help and lodgings and we are looking around for an 1 hour drive from Morbihan Dept. Thanks
14. Hi Had an email last week from an old mate who has upped sticks and moved to Brazil, not sure whether this was a general opinon but thought I would share his feelings. Hi to all, I received a msg last week asking would you consider coming back to the UK to work, my answer was no and they replied stating that in the light of the London bombings they understood, problem is that is not the reason for not wanting to return so felt it was necessary to inform them further. After reading my msg several times it does sound a bit mister angry but ime not, ime just the (choice meister) so last one out dont forget to turn the lights off. "Thanks for your kind reply in response to my confirmation that I do not wish to return to England and I take this opportunity to reiterate the reasons as to why. I do miss family, good friends, the English country side, real ale and pie & mash most other things I can take or leave, it is winter here in Brasil and people are on the beach and swiming in the sea, the fruit tastes like fruit and not chemicals, people are polite and helpful, the cost of living is low, taxation is nearly non-existent and so are the bikinis, all right you can get mugged but that could happen anywhere in the world these days. From what I hear things are improving in England ....... apart from Eye watering taxation, pension scourges, extortionate MP taxpayer funded saleries, foreign holidays for muggers, alarming anti British campaigns funded by lottery money, homes to fraudulent asylum seekers, alcohol disorder zones and the young children drink & drugs timebomb, the joke called the European Union (Common Market stroke European Dream) including French President Chirac the rampaging, sulking President of a nation of cry babies, but at least they support their Mother land. Not forgetting my two favourite Bureaucratic Goverment Departments that epitomize all the worthless English jobsworths and in my opinion both departments should be united as one, renamed and churned out as the Department of Goverment Sponsored Waste. The Dept of Transport and the latest pay as you drive (highway robbery) road charging policy takes the biscuit except for the Dept of Health (the health & safety gestapo) NHS Trusts and the MRSA scandal, new mothers are having to clean maternity wards to protect their babies from MRSA what century are we living in. I love England and always will but since living abroad my eyes have been opened, why do we the English people continually allow our COUNTRY to be downgraded by so called elected and unelected intellectual and unintellectual bigots that have no passion for our people, standards and Country and whose one commen aim is to turn England into a toilet. Thanks but no thanks this man is not for coming back to work in England".   Methinks I just about agree with everything he has said
15. Hi There will be two minutes silence at twelve (midday) around Europe. Hope some are you are with us.
16. Please stop whinging and get back to the facts. So far 50 dead bodies are still down in the tunnels, and as I worked at Kings Cross a while ago in these places ( fire protection which was in these areas where the worst fire took hold a few years earlier and killed all those people then) its no place to be. The bus which had its roof blown off, the TV had a woman who was next seated to a man who had shielded her and was killed (not confirmed but she thought he was) A person still missing that my other half knows, London traffic is small people are still going to work. We have had years of the IRA in London , are we now going to have the same with these fanatics? Listerning to George Galloway what a figure to have in London, I don't think so
17. I have giving a bit of detail on the London V Paris post, but here it is so far according to the bbc/itv 6 bombs have gone off (unconfirmed) 90 injured at Algate east 2 Buses around Russell square one has had its roof blown unconfirmed dead(6) So far and arab newspaper has said that its believed Terrorists belonging to Al (spelling) Quardia have said they are behind it.
18. So far its been 6 blasts,  90 injured, at Algate East station, All services on High Alert, no tubes or buses. London has been brought to a standstill.
19. Hi Just been on the news that bombs have gone off in London bringing the Tube to a complete standstill and a bus has had its roof blown off, uncomfirmed reports of 20 dead. My mother has had to be brought back from hospital as the are needing all drivers for this sad morning. Lets hope its not more like Madrid.
20.  Most people like myself who I know, live within a couple of miles of this proposed area. For one we have had nothing but trouble on the roads around here since the proposed M11 link road and as I back onto it I should know. They threw lots of people out of their homes and now its been open it is a nightmare. Everyday it is blocked by traffic and this spills out to all the streets around here. Many people do not want to come into London because of the £8 congestion charge and small business are rapidly failing as their lifeblood is being spilled by this greedy Mayor. The Traffic lights at Hackney Marshes change so slowly that this cause's build up, at Blackwall Tunnel cannot cope with the present traffic let alone later, what will they do, widen it like the M25 demolishing more homes they are going to cause so much disruption again (8 years of road building we experienced Hell on earth). Thats just a start!  Will, The small companies are losing because they are not valveing the price of what they are worth and Livingstone wants them to move out further from London, where a lot of the firms would have more problems getting into London then they already have. There are so many bad points to us who live around here they well outweigh any good points.
21. Sorry Paris we have got to put up with it.
22. Its now down to the last two as the other have been discounted. Let Paris have it, most Londoners I know do not want this, and most companies in Stratford will lose out (owning to the Pr""""K Livingstone). GOOD LUCK PARIS!
23. Hi Like many others I have lots of good things to say about this company. Last trip back I was pleasantly surprised to get a free pint of Guinness as I had asked for any daily paper, they had the Mail  and Times, bit battered but still a free read (all the saleable papers had long gone) When I asked for a pint they had shut the till but as I had a bit of a banter with the girls (sick bags had come out and it was a bit rough) they gave it free. I have always found most of the staff smiling and helpful and all my trips have been OK so far.  It is a long contrast to the others to come up with a better deal for me even thought it is a 6/7 hour drive to and from the port from our house in Brittany. Just booked again for the coming weeks, as always tried various dates times etc, Condor £242, P & O £155, Brit Ferries £447 (tried Wills Tuesday times £407) but with the sailings all approx 5-8 hours I think I would rather drive then sit on a boat for that period of time, and pay well over the top. I even divert around Rouen and cut out toll charges although its only 15 mins less difference if I took the Pont De Normandy it saves me 10-15 E, Petrol is around £60 (return) The only downside is the shopping is normally a bit more expensive and I am always forgetting things, unlike doing it in Brittany at a less stressful rate bit by bit. I too long for the western route to be more inline with Speedferries but until then I just  use my best way and sod all the others.
