1.
. This is the problem of not being there all the time, you visit just have time to cut the grass and break wind then its back to the UK, Oh how I envy those of you who live there and have the time to sort things out. Steve
Break wind? You lucky so and so, our grass took me a full 6 hours to cut, with a self-propelled mower. I emptied the grass box so many times I was too tired to break wind. Alcazar
2.
Whether it be a burgler, a Rapist , a speeding car or a litter lout(yes they do exist)  a broken law or bylaw should be paid for , if it means a £20 fine, 30 years in the slammer or the offending car crushed!
Agreed..................if ONLY all were treated the same. In FACT the mororist would be imprisoned, the rapist let off on a technicality, or because some fancy lawyer labelled the poor lass he raped as a slag, and the litter lout fined £30, which he never pays, since he hasn't a barcode/numberplate on his head, so who the fek knows who he is? Parity? I think not, Priorities? NOT A CHANCE!  Revenue, Yep, bring it on! Alcazar
3. When I did mine, all my stuff, apart from the ordinary and the few blue, bricks came from Wickes. I even imported sacks of the special white cement. The stuff to build with, (spacers, cement, stainless rods, etc), wasn't cheap, but did make the job a bit easier. Alcazar
4.
Alcazar is using the favourite smoke screen for people trying to justify their behaviour - they (the rapists etc) should be dealt with more seriously therefore leaving what's left in the punishment 'pot' to be spread more thinly among those that drive at high speeds etc.  And the hurting thing is just the usual Alcazar mantra because he wants to break the law when it suits him or when he wants to get on his 'revenue raising' hobby horse, can't see that it applies here at all.
Where did I say I wanted motorists dealt with less severely? What I'd LIKE is parity. What we HAVE, like it or not Tony, is revenue earning. I've also said this so many times I sometimes wonder if others read my posts at all: "I DO NOT CONDONE SPEEDING, NOR DO I WISH TO DO IT MYSELF!! There, is THAT clear enough for you? How can you condone a system that fines people heavily, and possibly removes their license, for doing something that MIGHT hurt someone, while those who DELIBERATELY hurt others, and sometimes on a regular basis, are just told: "don't do it again please". As I said, PRIORITIES! Alcazar
5. My youngest works part-time at Wickes as he's doing "A" levels. He found you a price last night: £20 for a box of 5. HTH, Alcazar
6. So it cuts a cylinder? And a pineapple ISN'T clindrical.[:(] Nope, I'll stick to cutting slices then cutting the rind off, then squeezing juice out of the rind for my cocktails.[;-)] Alcazar.
7. Here we go again. Sigh. There IS zero tolerance in the UK, but only for offences like speeding and parking illegally...........you know, offences that REALLY hurt people! Every time anyone does it! Let's not hear anyone say, "who has it hurt?" It COULD, so we MUST punish them! Oh, and the fines are a nice revenue earner too[;-)] Unfortunately, the tolerance levels for rape, mugging, assault, even murder, are much higher. But then, they hurt people every time REALLY. Priorities? 'Nuff said. Alcazar
8. Go for a telerupteur. It's basically a latching relay. Once it's wired in, the wiring for switches to it is dead easy. Not cheap to buy though. I have one now, but only one switch on it so far, (there will be 4), and it doesn't even operate a light yet. Sigh. Alcazar

12. Stupid link! Stupid computer! Or maybe stupid computer operator[:D] I'll find one that works from somewhere. It's about speeding, (quickly ducks out of the way)[:)] Alcazar
13.
[:D] Thankyou just the info I was looking for. Paul ps     "The French catalogue also showed "  who's  ??
Dunno, sorry. It was at the Materiaux place, whoever makes 'em in France. AFAIK, there's only one manufacturer. Can't even remember the name on the boxes I have. (Our corner blocks were Wickes, and a perfect match.) They go on holiday for most of August though, so your supplier may not be able to get any until september, unless you're quick. We were caught that way last year[:(] Alcazar
14.  "Lt. Colonel du Paty de Clam"? Isn't that French for "Blair"?????[;-)] Alcazar, (not a Tory, either!)
15. Does it cut STRAIGHT down, or does it follow the pineapple's shape? If it goes straight down, you're wasting pineapple[:(] I LOVE pineapple, and use almost all of it, I even hand squeeze the skin into a jug for drinks, cocktails etc. A surprising amount of juice is wasted in the skin of a large pineapple., and the stuff I squeeze out is MUCH nicer than the anaemic stuff you can buy in tins, cartons etc. Alcazar

17. Firstly, yes you can buy glass bricks in France, although you MAY have to order them. Try a local "Materiaux" place rather than any of the DIY sheds. The ones I got in France were identical in size to those sold in the UK. The French ones were also offered in various colours. We have a few azur blue ones mixed in with the clear ones for effect. Get any except a small amount delivered: they are HEAVY! They come in boxes of 5 or 6, can't remember. The French catalogue also showed kits of walls of various sizes with everything you need, opening windows with glass bricks in them, framing kits, and even aluminium corners etc. Forget B&Q, unless you like paying over the odds. Your local Wickes sells clear standard blocks, blue ones, corner ones, and all the paraphenalia you need to do the job, including spacers, expansion strips, bracing rods in stainless, and they also do an excellent free leaflet. Here's a website with tips, ideas, etc on building with glass blocks. http://www.shackerley.com/glassblocks/ DON'T attempt to set them in mortar without using the spacers. Oh and DO plan it VERY carefully. You can't cut them, they don't come in half sizes etc etc. Alcazar
18. Three reasons, I'd reckon: 1. It's a silly game. 2. Women's tennis is even sillier and more boring than men's. 3. It took place NOT in France, so why would they be interested? Alcazar, (flame suit:ON)
19. Not come across it myself, but I have mine delivered from a local building materials supplier, about ten miles, but he delivers free, often next day or even same day if you're in early. try www.pagesjaunes.fr Near to St Mathieu, 87. Alcazar
20. I've seen him referred to as "ZZ" in the French press, and our American cousins will pronounce THAT "Zizi", so I suppose that's where he got it? Alcazar
21. Well ZZ is still on my list of "people I'd like to meet".........along with Maurice Gatsonides....but him for a VERY different reason[:D] Alcazar
22. These are NOT harvest mites or harvest bugs, both of which burrow under your skin and cause inflammation that itches like fury. They are THRIPS, aka thunder flies, or, in my part of the UK, corn flies. It's their feet and them moving your bodily hairs that causes you to itch, although some may be allergic. They DO have wings. Many years ago I painted a window frame, and came out to find it almost black with the blasted things. Someone once said: "When God created the earth, the three things He like creating the most were poor people, insects and rocks. That's why He created so many of each." Makes sense, I suppose......... Alcazar
23. As posted above, it's difficult to tell without seeing. Depends on the size of the wall, the amount of render to be removed, the height of the steps, how difficult to fix a railing etc etc. Have you tried finding out how much to hire scaffolding yourself? It might give you an idea. If the quote for that is too high, the rest probably is too.[:(] Could you not get another quote from a different builder, and compare? it's usually best to get two or more anyway.[;-)] Alcazar
24.
Can anyone tell me where I can obtain a diagram of the French wastewater and sewage system. We have recently had a manhole installed in our garden in France which connects to the main drainage, so that we can connect the house and extension to it at a later date, but there are 2 pipes in the manhole instead of one as in England and these connect to the 1 large pipe in the road.I would be grateful if anyone can help me. Thanks Tony.
Two pipes as in "one in and one out" ?  Or "two pipes in, two pipes out" ? Could it be one for grey water connections from the house, one for foul water? Alcazar
