  4. Thanks so much Les . Has set our minds at rest that the garage knows what they are talking about. We had never heard of such a thing.
  5. Good morning Our car has just failed its CT for the 2nd time on emissions being too high %CO 0.51 and Lambda 1.07. Pass levels are %CO=0.30 and lambda 0.97-1.03.(what is this lambda?) I have taken it back to the garage and they have said that it needs a new sonde de lambda. Can anyone tell us what this is and if a new one will solve the problem of both emission levels being too high. I'm not sure they know what they are doing. Perhaps I'm being a bit naive but I thought that a simple adjustment of the carburettor or fuel injector system would solve the problem. Our car is a 1996 Peugeot 106.  Any helpful comments would be appreciated
  6. My son is a builder & has used both. He is in the process of "doing" our attic & is using wood as the completed work will be much more solid etc , although slightly more expensive initially we feel well worth it. But everyone has their preferences. We have bought plasterboard in a few places at the moment Brico L'clerc is the best value. (never realised how much you get through) & still we need more
  7. Thanks Andy but I think we will need a few gallons of the stuff! But will check if they do large quantities

  11. Wood is slightly more expensive but we chose it because it gives a much more solid finish ( according to my son who is doing our work) It takes a bit longer to do but we are glad we used wood
  12. Best to wait with Ryanair as you never know when they put the cheapies on keep checking on the net. We have never paid more than £30 whatever time of year we have flown Stanstead to Potiers. So keep checking a few times we paid 1p !

  14. There is an english lawyer we know & have used his name is Jonathan Cavender E mail office [email protected]. We come from Somerset & his company have been solicitors locally for as long as I can remember. We used Jonathan to lias with notaire authorities etc during our purchase he is a really down to earth guy. Can't recommend him enough & he is in the your area. I hope this helps he set us straight on many things we were unsure over
  15. My son is a builder & trys to avoid working with French plaster as it is so soft . So if you want "english" type plaster you may need to take a trip to blighty or find a friend who is going
  16. Thanks everyone we are really looking forward to entertaining them. Have  decided on nibbbles etc for our first date
  17. Hi We are thinking of inviting our lovely french neighbours over for the eve. Can anyone tell me protocol on food etc . Is it best to keep it informal eg wine / pinot & nibbles  or would a proper meal be appreciated? We have only been here 3 months & these neighbours have been wonderful giving us straw for our animals , eggs & veg they will not accept any payment so we would like to repay them buy inviting them over so any help would be great. Thanks
  18. We moved here in Aug bringing with us our 13year old "sophie" woofley. If you have no intention of taking your pet back to uk you will need to get them chipped & a rabies jab but you do not need blood tests & booster etc . I got a certificate of fitness to travel from our uk vet. Sophie loves it here so I would say no problem bring woofers over it cost me £25 for rabies jab plus £25 for passport it is the blood tests etc that cost but as sophie is elderly we knew that we wouldn't be taking her back to uk I hope this helps.
  19.  For married couples this is a flexible form of will whereby the surviving spouse has a number of choices to be exercised after the first death. We have an appointment with our notaire in a couple of weeks so we will know more but I think it means the surviving spouse has the right to remain in the property until they die with no tax implications. I hope this helps
